Convincing me to get an LMG wasn’t very hard, this just made it official

I totally thought the MG42 would land somewhere on this list.

My personal favorite is the M60e4. It’s lighter than the OG M60, has a built in foregrip (can get the e6 version for the tac rail), and makes you feel like Rambo in Airsoft.

I think an LMG should be heavy but still very powerful with a high fire rate. This would keep it balanced by restricting the user’s mobility but allowing him to lay down a laser beam of BB’s

The forgotten weapons definition video regarding automatic rifles, lmg's, hmg's, and GPMG's is what i go on to define a support gun.

I have been at college, and away from my airsoft guns for too long. This video gave me comfort. Very epic Matt.

At the field i work/play at, we recently switched to semi only except for saws. We define it as any gun that in the real world would be used in that role, providing that the gun is setup in that way. So we include full length rpks, m27 with a box mag, shrikes and all the obvious big guns. Its cut back on a ton of overshooting issues we were experiencing from people who were "saws".

an airsoft LMG defined by me is a box mag fed by the tubes on the side like the m249. the G&G and krytac lmgs to me are just m4s with a box mag

I’m not trying to be a smartass but the RPK, although being on the AK platform, differs WILDLY in performance and parts and is really an lmg. (If you ask me at least)

The two LMGS that are the best options are an M249 that can take m4 mags for the nato bois and a full length RPK for the ak bros. The reason being either can take regular mags so when your box or drum eventually fails...which it will...someone can toss you a mag or you can have one handy until you get your stuff fixed or replaced. If you don't feel like fussing with the box or drum you can just run mags too. If the rpk isnt full length some fields won't let it run as an lmg.

Army Infantry vet here An LMG, by definition, and the definition I follow, is basically said as the following: "Any fully automatic weapon in which all components (gun, ammo, attachments) can be carried, manned, and used by a singular person". Usually using a standard round that the infantry uses, IE 5.56. Perfect example, the M249 or the RPK. An "HMG" (referred to as a "Crew Served Weapon") is "any automatic weapon in which carrying all pieces must be carried by 2-4 members of a Gun Team. Typically involving the Gunner, carrying a 50-100 round belt in the gun, the AG/Assistant Gunner (AKA the Gun Team Leader) carrying the tripod and 1 extra belt of ammo, and 1-2 Ammo Bearers, ABs, carrying roughly 800-1000 rounds a person. perfect example, the M240 machinegun series, including the M240B, M240C, and M240L.Usually in a heavier, bigger, harder hitting round Like .308, 7.62x39, and the .50 BMG. The M1919 and the M2 would classify as HMG seeing as they use bigger rounds and it takes at LEAST 3 members of a collective team to ensure the weapon system is used at maximum efficiency.

Out of all the mgs out there all I want is a mg42 as my support weapon but I can never find one cheap enough or in stock

I believe a LMG is most of what is in this video, LMG is a mainly used at the shoulder/ with the squad. MMG will mostly be used mounted or in the bipod configuration. HMG will be something mounted as well, but along the lines of a 50cal or bigger. Lindybeige on KZfaq has a great video on LMG,MMG,HMG

You can say whatever you want, to me #8 and #7 are M4s with box mags. They were only created so G&G and Krytac can sell more of their M4s with minimal investment.

I think many weapons in airsoft can fit the category of an lmg or support weapon. Mainly because the support role is to provide sustained fire down range to suppress the enemy and support the squad. an M4 with a drum mag slapped in it could certainly fulfill this role, It simply wouldn't look or mimic a real life counterpart. For the sake of fulfilling a role at any event that's how I think the support role works, but I know in milsim it tends to require specific replica guns in order for it to count, and I get that since it helps build immersion. Simply my thoughts on the matter.

Honestly I agree with the concept that an lmg should be more bulky and unwieldy to act as a trade off for being able to shoot a hose of bbs down range. Milsims in my area only allow semi auto for riflemen which allow support gunners to lock down objectives with only a few other riflemen. I managed to hold of an opfor push for half an hour against half their team while I was sat on objective with 5 other guys. I was gassed having to lug it around the field all day bringing it to wherever command needed us to hold but it was honestly an absurd amount of fun knowing that your bullet hose is keeping everyone's heads down.

was recently at an outdoor event where there were three people total running m134's i did somethign crazy with just my pistol in hand i snuck up on him and took out a heavy gunner with a pistol ...was epic and fun

i think what defines a support gun is the big magazines to throw a metric ton of rounds supporting your troops

Hmg's/lmg's are defined by what they were designed for. A few examples are the browning BAR or the rpk. These guns, while very similar to standard rifles, use normal magazines. However, they were designed to be used as squad automatic weapons.

I'm a CAW minigun owner, I bought it off the Evike site when they were first released, sadly don't use it as much anymore because most fields around here now are BIO BB only and or Semi only.

In layman's terms I believe the difference between Support Gunner, and LMG and HMG would be 1) caliber of projectile and 2) ease of mobility (ease of deployment or mounted)

What about the RPK? Either drum mag or crazy banana mag, I've got one, great fun and the total opposite to my practical M249 shorty with para stock and mini box mag, it would have given you a top 10 list as well.

I think the Stoner 96 should replace one of the Shrike-style platforms on the list, and maybe put it higher. It’s nice and light, has a v2 gearbox, and has a great box mag as standard, not to mention has a good deal of customization.

My number 1 will always be the G&G MG42. I love it. And my enemies fear it.

Belt fed is a Machine Gun. Mag fed is more a Light Support Weapon, to use British Army definitions. Your honourable mentions choices fall into this category neatly. Maybe do a list covering these guns, it opens up RPKs, HK MG36, L86 LSW, M27 IAR to name a few.

I think in airsoft, its about sustained fire in Milsim if the riflemen have limited rounds and ROF. Back in the day, our SW's were the LMG (Bren Gun) and GPMG, both of which required carrying of spare barrels, tons of ammo etc. Airsoft support gunners should try at least to recreate that.

Here is a story So for Christmas, I asked my mother for the PKM by A&K as my most wanted gift, and, since I am from the UK, we need to have our guns two toned if we do not have a licence or are under 18 like me (basically have 51% of the gun sprayed in a non military colour like red, blue or green, in case some of you do not know), and so, the PKM was supposed to arrive the next week on a Tuesday when I was back in college, however, the gun arrived extremely early while I was downstairs with my mum, and so we watched it be delivered to our doorstep, and so now I have the PKM in a cardboard box sitting on a table in the house waiting for Christmas haha Should I use it as if it was a rifle and rush people with it the next time I go to a game? It isn't practical but it sounds very fun haha

The #4 is awesome. Even the full size model is light and even though it's not a metal receiver it seems to be durable. Had some feeding issues at first but it was related to the box mag...I have found one that works.

it should have long range with accuracy and maintain both at high rate of fire. we usualy ran our lmgs att 300meter in the army but it was a heavy beast

It's weird because I love this channel and the website but I don't do airsoft at all.

What is a LMG/MMG? Simple, its designed to be used mainly in full auto with a heavy wight barrel to match the heat output. The feed system (box drum or mag) doesn't matter, but it should be an arm set up for longer sustained fire to support the squad either in pinning foes down, or trying to take out fast moving targets. I have a M249 Featherweight that I normally use a box with but I love the ability to swap to mags if needed and those are the roles I use it in.

30 rounds mags are what's used in the M27 unless you're referring outside of the military.

I identify them by there fire rate and magazine size. Preference wise for lmg I always look for something light, accurate, fast, and just overall very well made. I personally for that choose the Krytac lmg because it’s a M-4 platform and allows m-4 magazines, is pretty accurate and I’ve heard a lot of good things about it. I hope to get it soon at least and potentially give it a major set of upgrades to make it more efficient at longer ranges and have a very high fire rate (and maybe even upgrade the box mags or make my own) so I can single handedly create a no man’s land and give my team a advantage while the enemy is kept under cover.

I own a G&G mg42 and I feel personally attacked by the fact that it isn’t on this list

the pkm fits with ak style weapons because its an upside down akm that fires a longer round

I should NEVER have seen the G&G CM16 LMG offering!!!! I have the "shorty" CM16 now, and the CM16 longer barrel model on order for my "Armageddon" project. My definition is a "one person portable system" that is capable of taking team members mags if need be.
