I'm absolutely crying tears of joy that muna got the top spot. I love them and have since their first album. They deserve the world.

It wasn’t a great year for finding new favourites(save for one band), but it was an INCREDIBLE YEAR for new albums from artists I already know and love, and finally listening to bands I was sleeping on. And YEAH! It was a REALLY WEIRD YEAR! You almost had to know your way around music to navigate to the best stuff. Also I was looking for music from biggish bands, Nothing More, MIW, Vukovi, Set It Off, Bad Omens, & Palaye Royale for example, and I got great stuff there.

I will say that this year had a lot of variety and it could be any of about 10-20 albums who had reason to feel they could be at the top. Muna was definitely on my top 10 list. And gotta say thanks for introducing me to them back in 2019. This album feels like they've taken the next step. Hooks are hookier, synths are synthier, the sad lyrics are sadder but also cathartic. I couldn't help go from "What I Want" to "Here by Now." BTW, a few metal recommendations if you're looking for some: Venom Prison's Erebos, Blackbraid's Blackbraid I, Spiritworld's Deathwestern and Seventh Storm's Maledictus.

*SPOILER BELOW* I heard the first bit of "Silk Chiffon" and I let out the EXACT SAME "GAYYYYYYYYYY" scream!! MUNA were one of the definitive bands of my coming out experience- I first discovered them when I was first coming to terms with my sexuality, and now I dance to them in the kitchen of the apartment that I share with my partner of three years. I can't think of any better way to connect an artist to your life than that. Happy 2023, Crash- "life's so fun, life's so fun" ❤

My favorite album this year was Lorna Shore’s Pain Remains. It’s the first album in a very long time that I like more than just a few songs. Their genre is not for everyone so I get why it’s not every one’s favorite. I’m just curious where you guys are finding such good non-metal stuff.

Really appreciate the video Crash. You know, these year lists you and other people I follow here make are where I discover what came out throughout th year since, frankly, I'm preety disconnected from music in general (I barely listen to music in my native language). At first I was down when you said there was not gonna be a lot of metal here, because unfortunately I'm in a mental state that makes that a comfort spot (something is wrong in your head when the only thing you vibe with is prog/death metal). But then we got to the end of the list and I went "DAMN, FREAKING MUNA RELEASED A NEW ALBUM LAST YEAR?! YAY!!!". So thanks, my commute to work will be more interesting now.

I actually haven't listened to a lot of new music last year. Time to catch up. I guess the album of the year goes to Kessoku Band if you count it. It is definitely commercially produced as a tie-in for an anime, but it has the credentials as basically a super-group writing the songs. And damn is it good. Other great stuff I found this year is the Linda Lindas album, I finally got into PUP. "Bohemia" by ORESKABAND was also very good. But ultimately musically I think I will mark 2022 as the year I discovered Necry Talkie and completely fell in love with their creativity and energy. But they only released a mini-album this year, which is good but not a full scale release.

As someone who is actively trying to expand my musical horizons, I always look forward to your end of year lists and reviews the most Crash. You've put me onto so many amazing artists and album's already and I've added another dozen or so just from this vid alone. Thankyou so much for all that you do for the music appreciation scene. If not much metal resonated with you, I’d highly recommend throwing on White Ward’s “False Light.” That was my AOTY and it is a Sonic journey.

Second comment on my agreements with your list. Tekkno was great. Joey Valence was fun-ish. I slept on Cliffdiver, I need to give this album a couple spins. I’ll listen to Carly Rae’s album.. eventually. I will probably listen to Lamb of Gods record, they are heavier than my taste but this album sounds great. The alexisonfire album was good, I can admit. Denzel ROCKED 2022, as did JID, I thought Kendrick was gonna make my favourite rap album of 2022,but instead it came third because of these 2 albums. Midnights was okay, and that’s okay, but I agree that despite liking reputation Taylor, it’s mediocre at best too, and Midnights outpaced that shit, and Antonoff is getting tired, but I still don’t mind it on Taylor’s music. As for DAWN FM? After Hours was better, yes, but Dawn FM fucking SLAPPED TOO, if he had done a proper rollout it would be loved as much a it deserves, it’s the other side of After Hours’ coin and I love it for that. I will someday compare the two albums in an article on my site. I HATE country and adjacent genres so this record was a wonderful surprise that I was SO enamoured with. I like Charlie XCX, but I REALLY wanted that scrapped album that quasi leaked, so I got iffy on the new stuff. But it was good! I only heard it once, but I managed to remember a couple of the hooks weeks later, and that was cool! Gang of Youths was something that I liked, but didn’t LOVE as much as most music fans, but also understand and agree that it’s objectively tying for best rock record of last year, it was an INCREDIBLE ALBUM. I haven’t heard MUNA, so somebody tell me: is it actually that good?! Is it? I need to know in advance so that if I’d hate it I can just not listen and let people have their fun. That’s it for me.

This was such a fun list! So much queerness we love it 😂 My favorite album of the year was “Fix Yourself Not The World” by the Wombats - an album I ended up really needing last year and didn’t even realize it at the time - and as a bonus got to see them in concert for the first time! That probably helped lmao

Kate Bush at number… nah I thought I was being funny but, anyway excited for this.

Cliffdiver, Off!, and Orville Peck are real good choices, but my favorite of 2022 would be Mcbaise's Tubes. A real good Alt Rock album that's great to drive around listening to, or chilling at home with a good mix of rock & classic 80's/90's Alt Rock sounds with a lite modern twist. I must be getting too old, but it's just getting harder to like newer albums, cause they sound too desperate to imitate bands that did it before, and/or better than them which is most new metal/punk artist.... or sound like "prefab Ikea like music" that any talent-less hack can try to put together, but sounds horrible after assembly while it's missing key parts here & there (ear diarrhea TBH.)

Reggaeton tends to have a lot of sex lyrics. Sex, thug and in the case of women, female empowerment. I'm from PR so this music is the majority of what you hear and I remember that most of the songs my mom heard from this genre were about partying, sex, romance and female empowerment (All hail Ivy Queen, Queen of Reggaeton yall).
