If you Google Portugal, and more specifically the Algarve, beautiful beaches with sand coloured cliffs appear, unfortunately, the pictures were taken early morning. By noon the beaches are packed... bring a can opener.
Here's a tip... follow the surfboards. That means leave Albufeira, Lagos, Faro and the like and drive west until you hit water. At this point, head north to find an array of wind swept beaches perfect for surfers and devoid of the trappings of tourism.
So while there I tried not to run into seagulls, cliffs and keep the flying machine from becoming a submarine, Helene sensibly stays land locked with her iPhone.
