Hi, my name is Merrill Kazanjian. New York City is an amazing place to go metal detecting. We have lots of parks, colonial history and great beaches for beach detecting. I have gone to all five boroughs of New York City To Metal Detect and beyond. I also currently own 16 metal detectors. I want to have the best and I want to help you choose the best as well. If ur budget was unlimited what detector is the BEST for each of the following? 1* depth on land 2*underwater/snorkeling deep 3*water proof/knee deep 4*mud/wet sand 5*dry land/dry sand 6*fully submergable pinpointer Also what is the top tech not available to us yet? ie Do you know if any exist with a screen to show an approximate shape of the metal detected yet?

Don't know how I missed this video, it's spot on. I started with an Ace 300, struggled for a year and almost gave up on detecting. Instead I got a Simplex and everything turned around. Absolutely no question that it's the best value on the market, though some people seem to struggle with the definition of "value".

I bust a gut on this video! I started out in the late 1970's with a White's coinmaster 1 and up. In 2020 I started detecting again with a Garrett Ace 350. No numbers on my screen to show what I was looking at. Good machine,found alot of items but not the AT-pro I now own. There are MANY good machines out there. Knowing your machine will help owners find GREAT items but having a better machine will help you find more. Shear number of hours hunting will find you more goodies no matter the machine.

Always enjoy your videos. I hear what you’re saying about the 250, especially at the beach. However, I’d like to point out I had a good first year of detecting with my Garrett 300. Hunting in and around Charlottesville Virginia I found 48 silver coins, 17 silver rings, solid silver and gold Tiffany necklace, many flat buttons, civil war era bullets, etc. I just don’t want those with entry level Garrett detectors to be discouraged. Planning to upgrade machine in March. Keep up the great videos Merrill! Thanks.

My first metal detector was the Ace 250, it lasted 8 years of abuse. I've also owned many detectors costing $600/$900, but always found myself grabbing the Ace 250 simply because it was as reliable as the AK-47 and broke down into a small backpack for travel. It does the job on dry sand. On wet sand the sensitivity must be turned down to half. I recommend anyone thinking of taking this up as a hobby to borrow or rent a detector before making any purchase. This hobby isn't for everyone.

Thank you for the advice. I'm not defending that other video as I've not watched it but some videos are beginners giving advice to other beginners. They appreciate that you might not want to spend $250 just to enter a hobby that you're not sure you'll stay in. That's not just metal detecting but shooting, cycling, kayaking etc. Professionals, like yourself, would recommend better equipment but that might be out of the range of the person who doesn't even know if they want to keep doing the activity. So it is striking that balance.

Im sure you will run in to me someday. Im in Freeport and Baldwin Harbor is very close. There is no real setting for gold (and im not talking about the gold mode on the 800). I always hunt in all metal so that I can hear the iron (and ill admit that I can sometimes continue to get confused when the edge of a bigger piece sounds like silver). To find both you have to inference and dig. If you are going for gold you will dig up a LOT of trash. I dont mind that at all. Silver coins were last minted in 1964 so we can infer that it is high toned and deep. I would recommend you check out my Equinox Terget ID video.

I agree 100%. Most of those detectors are in the toy department. I see them in souvenir stores near the beach for people who lost a ring in dry sand. I agree that someone wanting to honestly get into metal detecting get a simplex or save up for a Legend for around $500. I have the Nox 800 and Garret AT pro and XP Deus 1. I’m getting the XPDeus 2 very shortly. I got my first detector for my birthday when I was 14 I think it cost $28. 1976. It had an on off vol knob and that was it. 4” was deep. So I understand someone who is a complete novice thinking a $250!! Detector was top of the line.

Your next video needs to be on “why I need a pin pointer” specifically the Garrett Carrot. Many a person has bought a detector and been discouraged by locating an object but not being able to find it. I have the Equinox 600 and for the cost it is the best on the market but Minelab’s pin pointers don’t measure up. I find whether on the beach, field or park I will not be there without a new 9 volt battery in my carrot. Thanks, I’m sure most Garrett lovers would not agree with you but I’m in total agreement with you. I have not tried the Simplex but for $250 you probably can not go wrong. If someone would send me one I would definitely give it a work out. I usually get out at least three times a week. I live in Florida and the beaches have been good to me. Great video!!!!

It's a terrific machine which, all things considered, wasn't that expensive. I totally agree with your observations. Those guys have no personal experience with any kind of metal detecting. Lol I couldn’t agree more. The Simplex+ is definitely the best gateway detector. It was our first metal detector and we found plenty of good stuff with it. Depending on how much you go, it could potentially pay for itself within the first year. 🤙

I will add my own thoughts as I have been spending the last several weeks looking for a new detector. There are two big dogs out there on the market, Minelab Vanquish and Simplex. What kills the Vanquish is the pre set HIGH iron bias on the 340/440. Then on the entry price 540, Minelab decided to slap a big 12 inch coil on it which renders it useless in heavy trash areas such as parks. Their solution, provide a 540 pro pack with all the bells and whistles for nearly 500 bucks! You can almost buy a freakin NOX 600 for that price! Minelab engineers did a fantastic job on building the Vanquish but the sales department failed miserably. Where the Simplex lacks in depth, which is not much, it makes up for in recovery and it’s water proof feature. I’m ordering one if I can scrounge up enough change from the couch. My old Bounty Hunter Tracker IV got busted up when I got attacked by a dog a few weeks back 😆 Also not a bad machine if all else fails, I’ll buy another one for 70 bucks at the big box store. It served me well for nearly 5 years!

I say respectfully; Equinox all day! I own the 540 and the Simplex. Simplex is the best value out there. The Equinox is the best out there. That remains to be seen after I get my hands on the Legend and Deus 2. I dont work for anyone. I love detecting and will swing whatever works best in NY soil. As of right . now that is definitely the Equinox.
@blackbearsmithing7245
@blackbearsmithing7245 2 жыл бұрын
@Mr. Perfect I left a comment previously but I guess only part of it uploaded. It sounds like you got a great deal with all of those extras. I can only find the Vanquish 540 for $499 with two coils and the Nox 600 at $649. That is a $150 difference for a completely different class of detector. At that point I wouldn’t care about the Minelab Pinpointer and would make do with a cheap one. Prices also change, last week at KellyCo the Nox 600 was 593 after a not so secret coupon was added. In my opinion the Vanquish 540 is an amazing machine but for the money it is not worth it when you can buy a Nox 600. Here’s a link a to a used Nox 600 with good waterproof headphones for $400! facebook.com/groups/usedmetaldetectors4sale/permalink/1934480663412952/?sale_post_id=1934480663412952 Now, for the money the Vanquish 340 at $200 would make a fantastic beach machine in wet saltwater sand because their will be hardly any iron at the beach and the targets will be spread out. Take it to a park though and you will miss good targets due to the preset high iron bias. Again, I believe Minelab makes the best machines out their with their Multi Iq technology and the 540 is a powerhouse but they failed on the points that I previously mentioned. I’m currently putting together a Simplex with tools and everything for $334.17.

Black Bear, good comment. We are down here in the Tampa Bay area of Florida, and 3 local MD clubs all met at Fort DeSoto park for Minelab's WORLD premiere of the Vanquish detector a while back. I am told it uses pretty much the same electronics as the Nox, which makes it top of the line, BUT, to me, without having it be waterproof, it was a slightly less expensive detector that the Nox, if you were not a water hunter. BUT.... considering that the vast majority of the 80 or so of us at this product reveal already had our Nox's, no one purchased a Vanquish that evening, as we already had the same electronics, but in a machine that was also underwater capable! Take Care Rob / FlThunder

I too ditched the stock coil n replaced it with a Nel Sharpshooter DD coil.Works much better on wet sand. Got a Vanquish 540 which is a world of difference so the 250/Sharpshooter only gets used on rocky areas of the beach.

Since I got my vanquish 340 (I'm a beginner) my first week I found a gold bracelet and silver ring. I've also got around $20 in change. It's already paid for itself in the few weeks I've had it. I plan on upgrading to the nox but first I want to keep using the vanquish for at least 6 months. I've been doing both parks and beaches. I do dig alot of 15-16s on the tdi which ends up being bottle caps but I'm learning how to skip them. Also love this channel I've been learning a lot here to.

@@MetalDetectingNYC felt like my first day was a bust, only found bottle caps and pull tabs, my 2nd day was crazy I walked around a tree and found the ring, started walking the the middle of the baseball field and just for fun while walking towards the bleachers i gave it a few swings and hit the gold bracelet. Since I work during the days I've been going out each night for 2-3 hours going through parks. I've got alot better at finding coins but no more jewelry. I'm trying to learn to "pick" better targets so I end up with less trash. Maybe you can give me a tip on this, since I have the 340 I only have coin,relic, all metal modes. I'm using coin mode, Ill find a target with a good tone tdi at like 15 then switch from coin to all metal. if I turn get a negative tdi should I skip? I know everyone says dig it all but if I can avoid bottle caps and pull tabs I'd be very happy.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! I bought a 250 (got a great deal) and thought my being a greenhorn was my problem. Then started thinking the detector was bad, I got to the point where I questioned my sanity. I didn't know there were issues with different soils let alone wet and dry sand when I started. I was getting falses and digging ghost target till I was going to just give up. IMO the 250 will do more to defeat beginners than expand the hobby. I think the 250 should be priced at about $99 and issued with a warning not to use it in sand, or anywhere in Florida.
