I tried Gallery for the first time a couple weeks ago on a cabinet job. I really liked how fast and hard it dried. I was worried about runs on the cabinet body as I heard it was on the thin side, but really had no issues, one small run on the first coat. What I did notice like you said in the video is that two coats often didn't hide the red bondo. If you put it on too thick the finish will crackle, so I think in the future I will plan on priming, bondo, 2nd prime coat and then 2 finish coats.

Yes definitely best to prime before and after bondo 👌🏻otherwise 3 topcoats required with extra white. If it’s an off white or creamy color coverage is much better

Iv been using gallery for a year now. It’s the best paint I have used in 9 years. It drys fast (around 20 minutes depending on the environment. Sometimes sooner.)It’s thick. Sprays nicely in my Graco gx 19 with a 210 ff tip. Also sprays nicely in my Graco 9.5 finish pro with a #2 tip/needle. There’s a weird thing or 2 I don’t like about Gallery. If you leave gallery in your sprayer over night and use it the next day, it sprays weird and have a different texture. Pitting. So now I clean my guns out the same day. Gallery is about $130 a gallon. I get it for 94$ from Sherwin.

Gallery series is better imo. To me, scratch resistance is huge on cabs. 5 dollars more, and then having to tint primer for coverage over bondo etc. That command scuffed with just a credit card!
@mallerpaintingcompany
@mallerpaintingcompany 5 ай бұрын
Yes great point scratch and chemical resistance is very important! However I would be interested in scratching the command again after 1 month as it’s a water based urethane alkyd and anything “alkyd” with oil resins will take forever to harden. Either way when cabinet painting we don’t have a month for things to cure/harden making Gallery the better of the two 💪

Nice testing bro! I am doing similar tests with wall paints at my shop right now. I would be interested to know how both do for an oil exposure test like crisco or olive oil- emerald urethane failed badly compared to Ben Moore products- cabinet coat, advance and command in some testing done by Klappenberger & sons. Also a mustard stain test on the white samples will show which is more stain resistant and washable. Also let's see which one touches up better with a brush/roller. Film those 3 tests for a part 2 video please! Keep up the good work!

I got some gallery to test for some cabinets I have to paint, but on the test piece I did, it looks good, but it doesn't seem so dorable. I did the credit card test and it scratches pretty easy, and when I try to clean the surface with a magic eraser it dulls the paint and lightly removes some of it. The paint color was tricon black, and I used shellac white BIN primer on it. I did 2 coats primer (sand in between) and 2 coats paint. What do you suggest I should do differently to have better results? I have using my quickshot with a 310 tip (not water down paint or anything, just using it as is).
@mallerpaintingcompany
@mallerpaintingcompany 4 ай бұрын
We waited 72 hours before testing and probably should wait 21 days on dark colors before fully cured. If you over apply the product especially with dark colors it can take up to 30 days. My test was done 72 hours after application and I applied 2 light even coats over raw MDF which probably helped absorb the product and cure over time. If your applying over lacquered oak or Maple that will slow down full cure as well

I have six years experience with advance and may be 50 projects and I will be using gallery after using it just one time on cabinets. What about using the sayerlac crosslinker with gallery to make a 2K. SW should still carry it in their catalog.

I am gonna buy the quickshot to paint the kitchen but have no idea about how much sqft do you get to spray with the Quickshot everytime you fill it up, while utilizing the FFLP tip? Usually I roll paint the cabinets, so need to estimate how much paint I need accurately. Thanks for your help! ps. Planning on using the gallery series
@mallerpaintingcompany

Thank you for the feedback! The quart cup will get you through 10-12 doors per coat. So for two coats you can roughly paint 20-24 doors with one gallon. Most kitchens take 1-2 gallons of primer and 2-3 gallons of paint to complete

@mallerpaintingcompany5126 how well does this paint take on calk? And which one would you recommend so it's seamless
@mallerpaintingcompany
@mallerpaintingcompany 5 ай бұрын
Both products will stick to caulk just fine. If you want to paint over it quickly you will need a fast dry like 1050QD otherwise it will leave a hairline crack if you don’t allow the caulking to fully dry. If you have time to let the caulking dry from Sherwin you could use 950A or Shermax from Ben Moore I like the Tower Tech or Allpro Elastomeric caulking. The slower drying products will tool much better but they are 1-2 hour dry time before painting

Same. The microbubbles are a total job killer. I've used command exclusively for about 3 years. Spraying with graco 9.5 hvlp in negative pressure clean room. Sometimes minimal bubbling, sometimes dries like there's sand in the paint. Also have used titan 540 with 312 tip, not as many bubbles but still there. Command also cracks over caulk no matter how many days it's dried. I'm wondering if gallery also has microfoam/bubble problems?
@jasonw9277
@jasonw9277 5 күн бұрын
I've had micro bubbles only rolling with Command, usually only in white, 1x and 2x bases. I always use a 410fflp tip out of my airless for Command. No cracking over fast dry caulking like top gun 250, 1050qd or quick2coat. When rolling I use cabinet coat with some extender, no bubbles ever.

Yes it’s always best to prime! Our rep started by telling us no primer needed. But a month or so later he retracted and told us we better prime lol. Waterbased we use the Sherwood Gen 2 universal primer, Gemini Evo Primer sometimes extreme block. Also Renner has the best waterbased primer out in my opinion but still can’t get locally. Solvent based primer we use shellac or easy sands but try and use as little as possible or as needed for tannins.

I have a paint stick with command on it , will not mar using my fingernail or a credit card , ZERO marring , BUT , this paint stick sample is a year old !!!! ..... The problem with these tests sometimes is some of these paints require a long time to fully cure and harden , I'm talking a month ...... "24 hours" ain't gonna cut it , so I can see the SW certainly did better immediately , but try it again in a month and see what happens ..... they say "two weeks" , but in my opinion these kinds of paints just keep hardening and it will even be more durable in a month or a year ...... I've had these paint stick samples for a long time , every time I check them they seem harder and "stuck better" , I have a sample of Breakthrough on a damn ceramic tile you cannot scratch off !!!!!! no joke
@mallerpaintingcompany
@mallerpaintingcompany 2 ай бұрын
You are correct anything with oil resins will take longer to harden. But the data sheet says cured in 72 hours on command and I waited 72 hours to compare. However that’s without colorant we all know adding colorant extends the cure time so I would think the white should have not scratched after 3 days? But your right probably would have performed better in scratch test after 1 month but when painting cabinets waiting a month for full cure is a disadvantage in my opinion

This test is EXTREMELY flawed. Comparing solids between a paint and a spray only cabinet finish is hilarious. Sanding them both between coats at 45 minutes would show the Gallery producing a factory finish. Also flipping them after an hour or so would show huge advantage to the Gallery. I could go on and on. Price goes to Gallery when you see how much time that saves.

To your first point I’m comparing both brands best quick dry product in a head to head as these are both paint companies best product for producing a set of cabinets in my opinion. Yes the Gallery is a water based acrylic lacquer and command is a waterbased urethane alkyd however BM doesn’t have any other options to compare. Second point - Sanding between coats would show them both have a factory finish.3rd we hang and spray both side at once but you are correct if you were to spray one side at a time Gallery would have the advantage if it covers in 2 coats the command covers much better and would argue it might go quicker only needing 2 coats per Gallery’s 3 coats as gallery does not cover as well 4. Price per “gallon” goes to BM command. There are flawes in every test this was just my test and what I was interested in seeing.
