Interesting Take on those 3 Cameras in the 6k$ range. I have never used an fx6 or fx9, but to me colours are the most important. That’s why I went for a Blackmagic pocket 4k and a Fuji xt4 as a Bcam. I will definitely have to try out those sonys in the future tho as I have only used the a7iii in the past from the sony line up. I would really be interested in a video about lenses. As I know a lot of Filmmakers buying their camera dependant on the lenses available, not the other way . Keep up the good work 💪 Balling on a Budget.

The ZV-E10 is crazy capable for the price. Idk how they did it but the grade on CentralPier9's channel's videos look amazing even with just the 8bit footage shot on the ZV-E10. They're literally balling on a budget. Also I think the Fujifilm XT3 is a pretty good budget option. No stablization but 10 bit 4k 60 and really good dynamic range too. I'd say it's my recommendation, especially if you're also into photography.

We are SUUUUUPER spoiled as filmmakers nowadays. Even the low tier cams produce incredible images. What a great time to be alive and into filmmaking! BTW I shoot primarily on a GH5. As old as it is, it's still really, really good! Balling on a budget!!!!

Personally I recommend the following cameras at these price points for body only pricing >700 Canon r50 >1500 Fujifilm xt4 Panasonic G9 Pansonic GH5 ii (I never recommend the original GH5 at this price point. Unless you can find a great price used, it’s practically the same price and just improves everything from the Gh5 so paying the extra premium just seems worth it even if it’s a couple hundred dollars) Around 2000 Canon R7 Fx30 Used Sony fs7 I (for the ones who want a little more presence and don’t want/require photo capabilities) Panasonic S5 II I don’t generally recommend any of the Blackmagic pocket cameras except the 6k pro. I find that with them, there’s often extra costs you need to consider to get the most out of the camera and I feel that typically you can get more out of other cameras without the rigging. Typically, in my experience, the people that are looking for camera recommendations would not do with with a blackmagic pocket camera and the people those cameras would suit already know or have an idea of what they need. That same final sentiment can honestly be said for anyone looking for a camera over $2000 too. I find at this price, people know what they need and want so I don’t generally give recommendations as much. Usually I just tell people that they should stick with the brand they’re already with and if they’re buying their first camera I give them a cheaper option and give recommendations for lenses to eat up the rest of their budget. Also, I think leaving out the canon c70 at that 6000 price range is interesting. The c70, in my opinion, offers a more fair middle ground between the offerings from blackmagic and sony simply because it’s more capable of creating straight out of the box than the Red Komodo. I’ve never shot on any of the ursas, but for the Sony, I think that’s one of the single strongest points going for it and is the main reason I invested into the Sony system. Having a setup that can be rigged out but doesn’t need to be rigged out is such a underrated bonus for me at any price point so the fact that the fx6 is ready to go straight out the box really makes it even more of a great value. The same can be said about the c70. It’s probably even more of a ready to go camera out of the box than the Sony and offers, in my opinion, better image quality because of its dgo sensor. So I just feel that it deserves a mention as a pro video body.

Lol People are really sleeping on the Fujifilm XH2s. For $2,500…. 14bit readout with more dynamic range than the canon r5c, c70, sony fx3, fx6 and actually competing with the Sony Venus 2 in terms of exposure Latitude and DR. Internal ProRes recording, 6k Open Gate, 4k 120, external ProRes Raw & BRaw, little to no rolling shutter with readout speeds as fast as under 5ms in some modes. The list goes on..

I think that the komodo is selling just because it’s from red. I think that in the box stile camera range, Kinefinity has something to say at the moment

Nice very helpfull and informative. Here in Suriname i don,t get the chance to rent al those cameras. So the videos helps in a way. I am more a documentary filmmaker , doing some corporate work now and then. Need to upgrade my gear now. (Gh4) Baling on a budget.

At the company I work at we went ahead and got the FX6 a couple of years ago for our main cam. We mainly do commercials and the look it gives isn't really what I'd want to get for the stuff we do. It's a great camera for a lot of stuff, but looking back, I think we should have gone with a Komodo or the Ursa. I'm also a major fan of the body design of the Canon C70. For my personal use, that's what I would get straight away if I had the cash

I would add the S1h and put that right in between the BMC6k. But probably even the s5iix

I'm adding the Ursa Broadcast G2 to my Pocket 4K. Essentially it's the Pocket 6K Pro in an Ursa body. Good overall camera for multiple uses. Eventually I would get the 12K, but for now I need a camera that works for shooting events, docs and cinema and without the jankiness of the Pocket camera form factor.

I have a ZV-e10 with a Sony 15mm f1.4 lens Mostly dot KZfaq and some vlogging (I use my Dji action 3 for that) - is a GH6 an upgrade with considering if I find it for around $1500 what do you think

You would NOT buy a GH5 today BUT it is an absolute steal in the used market!

Have to throw the Canon C70 as the best camera between $5,000-$10,000 it has better dynamic range performances than either the 12k, FX6 and Komodo. Internal Raw straight to SD cards built in Nds and can absorb light better than the others. The DGO sensor is arguably one of the top 5 sensors ever made

For 650 I was able to get an A7S with a thousand dollar new Zeis 28-70. A 200 dollar Ninja V later I had 4K 422 ProRes HQ. That was my first but I used my phone and was able to use an older Nikon D5500 laying around that wasn't mine before that. Now I have the Pocket 6K. It says the A7S has over 14 stops but in the real world my 12-13 on the Pocket actually has way more.

What do you think about the R5C? Isn't that also around $6000? I think having a small and ready-to-shoot camera can be underestimated sometimes. When I was looking for a cinema camera last year, I was looking at URSAs, FS5/FS7 and BMPCCs. But then I stumbled upon an offer for a 1DX Mark II, which just ticked off all the boxes for me as a hybrid shooter. Although when I got to shoot with the R5C (3 times as expensive), the 1DX was no competition.

ZV-10 is very interesting.

Why no Fuji cameras? The XS20 is a beast of a camera. There is no camera at 1300 USD for what this camera can do. For double the price we have XH2S, which has a stacked sensor and the image is right next to Red Komodo.

You skipped over the new Panasonic S5 II and S5 IIX cameras at $2K and $2.2K. That have the best IBIS stabilization on the market ( you can shoot so many handheld shots with smooth movement ), it shoots up to 6K format, it shoots full-sensor open-gate format, It shoots ProRes internally, it shoots ProRes RAW, it shoots Blackmagic RAW, is records up to 1.9 GB using a 2TB SSD drive that costs $120. It has 14 stops of dynamic range, it has good PDAF auto-focus ( Sony and Canon are better, but Panasonic is finally catching up ), set your shutter-speed by shutter-angle, it has an internal cooling fan for unlimited recording length, it shoots 96 MB photos using internal pixel-shift done by the camera, it does IP Streaming to shoot for live web streams, it records 4 channel sound with an XLR mic adapter, it has Dual Native ISO at 640 and 4,000 ISO for very good low-light, it has anamorphic desqueeze to support anamorphic lenses. There is nothing at this price point that has the same feature set.

Don't know about the GH5 but the GH4 couldn't handle reds nor was any good once the light got moody. Make no mistake - dynamic range - does not mean it's good at low light. Just saying. Pay attention: the Ursa 12K ONLY has Black Magic-Raw codec on.

I think aspiring filmmakers should go for old cinema cameras, it designed for filming, it has been tested and used by a lot of cinematographers and it has dropped its price a lot, so if you really wanted to make movies, documentaries… buying an hybrid cam for it will only distract you and won’t give you all the capability of a cinema line would! So let’s say you can’t buy a Red Komodo, Fx6, or a Ursa… Buy a old cinema line, will amaze you with the form factor facilities and its amazing images, don’t you guys think? I have no regrets going for a Canon eos c100mk2 instead of a Eos R7

Where do you get your prices on the BM 6k Pro? In one video from around this time you say its under $1500, in this its $2000 - But I can't find a single retailer selling it for less than $2500.

Friendly reminder to viewers, this is definitely the prices for just the body. Several of these for sure need to be kitted out with quite a bit, bringing up that price. My 6K Pro ended up around $4,000

This list is skewed pretty heavily because you're most including new pricing. I bought a BMPCC4k for 900 used, and that will blow away any brand new camera in that price range. Also, if you're talking used, there are definitely there are better cameras sub 500. I have a Lumix GX85 that I bought used for like 250 bucks. I've shot multiple short films on that using vintage lenses that I bought for less than 100 bucks. There is so much value second hand.

Some wrong info at the beginning. You can literally find a full frame camera that can shoot raw (when magic lantern downloaded) that costs less than 250 usd dollar in used market. Canon 5d mark ii. Just-search up the footages shot with this camera, those are far beyond amazing, gorgeous and does provide looks that aren't possibly eligible for phones. Although iPhones have really good camera, it's not even compatible with real cameras with larger sensor size, plus the processing makes it even worse making it artificial and unnatural
