Just a tip, the screen goes on after the sides. This allows the ashes to be kept in the fire pit easier. It also gives stability to the sides. Very helpful if a log rolls to the side.

I really wish I would’ve said something in the past 3 videos, but I didn’t want to be “that guy”. Well, the screen sits on top of the 4 sides- as not to allow the embers pass thru on a somewhat windy night. It’s a great tool, and I’ve used mine for over a year, but the screen goes on last. Also, the heat/ember pad Velcro’s on to the legs at least an inch lower than the sides & screen, but I rarely need to use mine.

Yes, the velcro didn't last very long! So I installed grommets on each corner and ran a chain through to raise it off the ground.

I bought one last year. Mine came with another mat that is about 6' square as well as the deflector. Used a few times this year in the backyard and it works great.

I just looked at these this weekend. We drug my household one out to the campground with my fathers motorhome. It was a hassle all around but well worth having at the campground. It looks perfect for a motorhome and to get 4-6 people around it without too many hassles.

Jason will be reminded of this review for weeks to come every time he picks up his camera with the burnt-wood fragrance!

Replacement screen is only like $25. I’m gonna order one of these. It would be perfect for all the reasons you listed, and I’d like it for winter/snow camping. Great video. Thank you.

We love our Pop-Up Fire Pit. We too have the reflective shield which hasn't held up as well as I'd expect! We also use under ours is a simple 4'x6' welding blanket to protect the ground, costing less than $30.00. We've been able to fold it up so it fits right in the bag. Thank you! Great video. It is a great fire pit. I bought mine in the spring of 2019 and have used the heck out of it. I only have one observation. When putting together, if you install the 4 L pieces then put your mesh on you wont have the sag on the sides. This is from the inventors video. Great over all review.

I have owned this fire pit for 2 years now. I agree with everything you said. All your “cons” are bang on. The Velcro attachment of the heat shield is a joke. I’m going to modify mine with a cotter pin attachment. As you said, the fire pit is not “smokeless”. I do feel that it does a better job of minimizing smoke than you give it credit for. The stainless steel mesh underside provides a lot of extra airflow into the fire that wouldn’t normally happen in an in-ground fire pit. This extra airflow really helps to reduce smoke...not eliminate it, but greatly reduce it. I agree, the price is a little high. I’m in Canada and paid $200 Canadian for the same set up you have. I think it’s over priced for what you get, but having said that, I wouldn’t hesitate to buy it again at that price. When set up, it is big enough for several people to sit around. When broken down and packed up, it takes up very little space. This is a very well engineered product that has exceeded my expectations. Buy it, you won’t be disappointed. I’ve been using one for almost 2 years. Awesome product; I’ve had 6ft tall fires on it, use it under my tarp when it’s raining, have used it in my driveway where it’s illegal to have “bonfires”, where I just say it’s a grill, because it is. One thing though, the screen goes on after installing the sides, that way there’s no gap between screen & sides, and the screen won’t sag down as much.

I have to admit, I was skeptical the first time I saw Jason pull this thing out at camp. It just kinda looks flimsy? Especially that large expanse of screen material. But I can't deny that it handles very nice-sized winter fires with no problem at all, with ample space to use the fire for some cooking as well. My previous experience with fold-up fire pits was a friend's Snowpeak, and I did find the Snowpeak works quite nicely IMO - and you can tuck your toes under it as well - but, yikes, too expensive for my budget. All in all this seems to be a fair value for the performance it delivers.

Setting up the camera and placing the firepit where you do makes a nice camp scene for the camera/viewers. 👍🏻 I would just place some sticks or small rocks under the reflector screen around the 4 corners to get it off the ground, keeping the ground cooler.

I just bought one and I love it. Super easy to setup and it stores away easily.

$100 ain't at all over priced considering the true value of a C note these days. Cheap backyard fire pits at Lowe's cost as much or more. Love your pan handle notch mod.

Great review, Jason! OMG! I will never cook another steak over an open ground campfire again. Your reason number two almost made me barf :(- I bought the larger UCO portable fire pit and it works well for cooking steaks, burgers, veggies, etc. However, only one or two small logs can be added to a camp fire. Okay for cool nights but if it's cold building a bonfire ain't happening. This pop up pit looks to be the perfect replacement and that cut out for a frying pan handle is an ingenious idea. I couldn't find it on your merch page, just the Tembo scottle, so I put one on my save list on Amazon. Pricey but it will be worth it in the long run.

I bought this and the solo fire drum thing. This pop up is my favorite. I've even set it up over the top of a fire ring. Very little smoke and quick cleanup!v I also put my screen in last, over the sides.

Been using this same one for about 2 years now. Absolutely love it. We also got the grates to turn it in to a bbq.

i have a Solo Stove Bonfire fire pit and the portable one like yours... Solo is great,but as you know the heat goes straight up.. The Solo is now at home permanently. the portable is always in my FJ all the time

I bought one of these after it was in one of your videos. I love it. It is so easy to light a fire in. I had bought an extra screen for it and I think it was like $10 when I added to my order. I have noticed that I have a few very small holes in the screen but it doesn't hurt the performance any. They also sell an ember mat that lays on the ground and I think it's six feet square. I would recommend it. Oh yeah on a side note I recently bought a van. Just sayin. :)

You should look at buying the Frontier grates attachment for the pit as well. They’re for adding Dutch ovens or heavier/larger wood. Supposedly will help the mesh last longer. Happy trails!

Have you had any hot embers roll out between the screen and the side, onto the ground and start a ground fire? That screen must have some high temp steel in it to keep from melting. Interesting video!

I like it for environmental reasons. In Tennessee we just through wood down and burn it. What's a burn ban? No just kidding. We don't have many here though. Our camping area's usually have USFS rings with grills. What I do like is the leave no trace aspect. For that I may buy one. Great review.

Don't know what metal that screen is from, but I do know certain metals such as Ni, Ti, even SS can give of toxins at high temps and I'm guessing it's getting pretty hot. Also can you please tell me where you got that brownish wooly looking hoodie you wear in many of your vids. Thanks advance

i actually love this pit but two things. Don't mess with that heat shield. Small and the velcro tabs eventually come off. Go get those heat shield mats with more surface area. Second thing is i wish the inventors would round off the corners on the mesh and the 4 ember guards as they are sharp and it would just be nice to to get stabbed. Small details

I’m a big fan of the snow peak fire pit. This one does look cool though.

I guess if you drill some holes in the sides, it'll help with the smoke a little.

I'd pick this as the best as well from the ones I have experience with. The Biolite is the only one I haven't. I liked my Snow Peak but the cost is painful and I think the flat bottom of the Pop Up Pit is better than the upside down pyramid of the Snow Peak. And I hated how hot the Solo Stove was within an inch of the body.... Storm almost scorched her fur off too many times!

Bought one at Overland Expo two years ago. Jason, I disagree that $100 is steep for that. First of all, it’s designed, and made in the US. Secondly, it’s made from aluminum, which has gotten very expensive since the trade tariffs on China were imposed. You’re likely to pay more than that for a gas fire pit that is made in China. I personally feel that $100 is very reasonable for what you get. It’s a well engineered product.
