I would like to share with your listeners when purchasing a CDH (Chinese diesel heater) they only come in two sizes 2Kw and 5Kw. You will see some CDH labeled as an 8Kw but in reality it's nothing more than a 5Kw being deceptively marketed as a more powerful heater. If you want to know more about the CDH check out the YT video series done by John McK 47 he explains more than you'll ever want to know about them!

Have you ever installed one in a travel trailer? I have a 19ft Mallard, and the propane heater is under the foot of my bed which is in the back, on the right, facing forward. Could duct it right into the trailer duct system if so. And it would be locked away from thieves. Would this work?

@@terry4O yes, then you would need a fuel tank location. I have a 30' RV. removed the propane heater and replaced it with a diesel and Is ducted throughout.

I like having my diesel tank, battery, and the pump outside my RV. I’m in the PNW of Canada, and the humidity from propane heat is awful. Put in a diesel heater last winter, and dropped our heating cost by 2/3. The best part is the remote. I turn it on 1/2hr before I get out of bed in the morning and it takes the chill right out. Not goat Proof. I added alligator clips because our 12v batteries get charged up elsewhere, and it makes swapping batteries out easy.

I have one of these in my cargo trailer ... great set-up ... 10 amps is the maximum draw but from what I've seen around is that when it's under it's most load ... which is at start-up it draws about 6 amps ... this is when the Glow Plug is heating up prior to igniting the fuel ... once the combustion chamber heats up enough the Glow Plug shuts off and it fires under it's own internal heat or flame .... so the only amps being drawn is from the Fuel Pump and the Fan along with the electronics ... this is around 2 to 2.5 amps as I remember .... one important thing to remember is that you can't run the Heater until battery is completely discharged ... when you press the Off Switch it has a cool down cycle which keeps Fan running after it shuts off the Fuel Pump ... the heater only shuts down after the Fan cools it to a certain temperature ... if there is no power to run the Fan the Heater will Overheat and burn up it's internal electronics ... if you are so inclined for $10,00 I purchased a "Low Voltage Disconnect Relay" on Amazon and connected it between the power and the Fuel Pump ... I set it to 11.5 Volts so when the Battery reaches that level the Fuel Pump shuts off and the Heater automatically goes into it's shut down cycle because it thinks it ran out of fuel .... 11.5 Volts is still enough to run the Heater Electronics and power the Fan ... the Low Voltage Shut Down Relay is rated for 10 amps and Fuel pump draws much less on it's own ...

I use a 400 watt petnf dog house heater. It does not use 400 watts continuously. It has a thermostat dial and turns off and on automatically to your desired temperature when you turn on the main power switch. You will have to fine tune the dial to your comfort level as it does not have a numerical scale or digital display. Once you find your comfort level, you don't need to adjust the dial anymore. It needs a 6 inch clearance below it. It is intended to be mounted on the interior wall of a doghouse. I have mine mounted on a cut to fit board with removeable feet so it's portable and easily stored. If you have enough solar, this is a nice option. No drilling holes in your van/vehicle. There is a 300 watt model, but the 400 watt covers up to 105 sq ft while the 300 watt only covers up to 75 sq ft. The 400 watt model is a side wall heater while the 300 watt can stand alone or be mounted, however, I think the 400 watt model is a better unit because of how it distributes the heat versus the 300 watt. It came recommended from a trucker with over 35 yrs experience on the road. It's light and compact, about the size of a dvd player, and I really like that I can store it under the front seat. I prefer this over the Buddy heaters by far. No more risking your health using propane. I've never tried a diesel heater because I don't want to drill or cut holes or have to carry fuel. I've had progressive lung disease for just over 8 yrs now and I'm still going and the thought of having to carry extra fuel with fumes and having to manually refill it is just an added respiratory risk for me. I cannot travel more than 2 days at a time due to bulky machines & medical needs, but if I could, I would absolutely be out there full time. I love the idea of being able to travel at my own pace and seeing different scenery at my leisure. Thank you for the video and safe travels to everyone out there living the nomad life.

I used one like Bob is showing in a 9 x 12 foot canvas tent in Quartzsite until mid February. I put the unit inside the tent and got 3-foot long versions of the narrow combustion intake and exhaust which I ran out different holes in the tent. The exhaust is too hot to run the short foot long pipe that comes with the unit without burning the wall of my tent. I ran the heater only at early morning and night until I went to bed at 9pm or so. A gallon of diesel lasted me about 10 days. I operated the heater a couple of times while it was raining and since it was inside, it worked well. I always ran it on low and it put out plenty of heat.

Hi Bob - I live in my motorhome full time in France/Europe. I bought the short 5kw Vevor version of this (just fits in an exterior locker) along with a length of ducting similar to yours. I pipe the heat in via one of my lockers. It saves me a fair-few Euros in propane which is an extra-stupid price over here at the moment. I use 'red' tax-free diesel if I can find it, or a kind of kerosene used in portable heaters, but of course regular diesel if I can't find the former. I wanted to fit one internally but an installer couldn't find a 'safe' place for it inside. In any case, mine has run perfectly all winter and provides me with a bit of redundancy as well. All the best to you and to all of my North American nomad compatriots!! PS: Might I just add that it may not be a good idea at all to mount one of these inside of a small space. The joint at the exhaust is known to leak - there have been several carbon monoxide deaths in the boating fraternity for this exact reason. The regular (non-all-in-one) diesel heater is designed to be directly ducted outside via a hole in the floor which leaves said exhaust joint completely outside of the vehicle.

Good to know, especially since you brought up the fact that they are having deaths due to putting the unit on the inside. There is always that chance even with propane. Especially if it’s not vented properly. Otherwise another great video. Thank you Bob and all the great comments. Best wishes to everyone ❤

I always used Big Buddy heaters in my fifthwheel but never felt safe with them. Couldn't run them on low without my Carbon Monoxide detector going off. Had problems where after two or three years they just quit lighting. This last one caught on fire in my fifthwheel. So mid-winter this year I switched to running a Vevor diesel heater. So far I am loving it and think it's just a better heat than from the Buddy heater. Overall, I think the cost of running it is less also vs the propane heater. When it's a bit extra cool like now in Arizona it can go through some fuel though. I am out in GV in Mohave County on solar on my own property.

As a protection from the elements when you have it outside, I would recommend finding a plastic tote of a suitable shape and size that you can flip upside down and put over it. You’ll need to make a few cut-outs for the exhaust/heat tubes and venting and such and maybe put a rock on it for weight so it doesn’t blow away but that should weather-proof it.

I used one of these for two years so far If used outside be sure to cold weather the diesal and for a larger area put a fan up high It is best to watch a few videos on how to clean, maintain, and change screen, and glow plugs I have had to do these once Always run on high at the beginning and end of use to help keep the unit carbon carbon free Let them cool down for at least 15 to 30 min. Before handling or putting into storage THEY WILL BURN YOU IF NOT CAREFUL, SO WILL THE HEATED AIR ON HIGH !!

I've had one since December as a backup heater for my trailer. It works well. Drilled a 3 in hole and ran the exhaust out the bottom, intake using inside air. Uses about 1 gallon of diesel per day. Does have a ticking noise. Looking to rap the pump in foam to quiet it. Love the thermostat setting, never stops when temp is reached just slows down.

Best heater ever, I love mine so much I bought 4 . You can make bio diesel and heat is near free. I keep mine outside so I get fresh air blowing inside and the air finds a way through any little crack to get out so I'm always getting fresh air it's very warm I don't hear the heater outside and it can't be beat.

I don't know if I heard you correctly Bob, but I think I heard you recommend wiring a 10awg power cord from the heater as a replacement, with a XT60 connector on the power rcvg end. I probably heard wrong, but it got my attention. XT60 connectors are capable of being used with 10awg wire, as that's what I have on the battery end of my solar panel cables, BUT they're a really tight "fit" - I had to hire that soldering job out ($80). I'm not proficient at soldering, and wanted it to hold up long term. Costs may vary for this job, but I'm pleased with the work done, and it's held up really well for 3yrs now. Thanks for reviewing the heater! I'm still a tent dweller, but when/if I upgrade to a larger vehicle, I'll need something like this.

Bob, I really enjoy your videos and find many of them very informative. I hope I don't come across as a know-it-all, but I did want to point out something. I don't intend to cause any offense, and hope I don't offend you. Avoid the SAE type connector, (AKA: flat two prong trailer connector) They can be DANGEROUS because of their flexible housing material. If the connector isn't installed in line with the other connector, and flexible housing is pushed hard enough, the opposing pins can be shorted out by one of the pins being pushed in. The SAE connector is a poor choice for anything capable of providing a high current: for example a large battery. The SAE connector is intended for connecting a fuse-protected supply to something with a small current draw like a tail light. I know: I thought I was saving money by using a 2-prong SAE connector on an E-bike. It looked like it was pretty foolproof at the time. When I pushed it in to connect it, suddenly there was bright flash and a loud bang like a firecracker. Fortunately I wasn't seriously injured, but I had minor burns and black soot all over my hand. Stick with the Anderson or XT connectors. They aren't completely foolproof either, but they are the accepted standard for carrying high currents.

Great video. The All-In-One diesel heater units are not recommended for inside vehicle installation. For safety, the combustion exhaust connection should be made outside the vehicle. I would love to use one of these to replace the traditional propane furnace currently under the bed in my 19 ft Mallard TT, accessible via outdoor hatch, and could make another access under bed. Could even ventit into current heating ducts. Going to have 400 W solar with 1 200ah battery I wanted under end of bed because it would put the weight dead center and just a foot behind the wheel wells. Or the front tow hitch is an option to put both, but want to avoid too much weight there.
