Really awesome amps, the attenuation works like a charm. I played one of these once but I think it was an older version. Great demo as well, leaves no question open. And on top of that, one can also get a fresh french lesson for free.. or, pour le free, comme on dit en francais...

Best Sky King Demo out there man... I recently purchase the 2018 version, it is an insane amp. It is not my gig amp and I use it in a flat at low volume. Can not wait to crank it up ! Mainly because of the price, the Sky King Brand is still way underated !

The brand is Tone King, Sky King is the model. Yes they are expensive, because they’re targeted at professionals and for studios, but they’re worth every penny and a blast to play through. I also have one, along with an Imperial Mk II, and love them both.

Beautiful amp and what a suh-weet sound, good Lawd Gee-zusss! Very tasty playing too. This is the authentic Tone King that lives up to its name, know waddam sayin' (not like the unsufferable New Yorker out there ^^). Hahaha, tut mir Leid, I had to.

I have the little immediate brother of the Sky King - the imperial. The attenuator really helps save my rapport with my neighbors. At bedroom levels, it gets pretty compressed, but it's still not bad. Regarding the absence of an effects loop, I'm guessing the original designer is in the anti-effects loop camp, the argument being that on cleaner style amps, you don't really need one for your ambient effects. Dan from TPS sometimes makes the case for this. Of course, to each his own, but I'm guessing to many the absence is a feature, not a bug. Personally, I'd rather have the option. Plus, if you want to make your metal zone sound good on it....

Victoria amps also does amazing clean amps. I actually like them a little better than Tone King for that, although they aren't as versatile, need a pedal for any real overdrive. Probably even more expensive than the Tone King Sky King though, at least at the only store I played one.

Mark’s amps are a bit more historically accurate with Pine cabinets, Carbon Comp resistors, and circuits that follow the originals. His prices are lower, in my experience, but they’re really not the same amp. No attenuators, but does have a switchable Reverb. Mark typically does an Eminence speaker as well. I wanted to compare the Tremolo circuits, because I’m used to the Victoria. The tubes are very similar with a 5A4 rectifier though, and to me they sound similar. The big difference, attenuators on the Tone King, which to me, I don’t use.

I don't have enough experience of pedals to have much to contribute to the true-bypass debate, but I have noticed something in a couple of recent high-quality amp and pedal demos; namely that going straight into a good amp without anything else in the signal chain has a transparency, even on the higher gain tones, that even the best pedals don't seem to be able to match. It's not a pronounced thing, and it could be my imagination. You guys with much more experience, have you noticed a similar thing?

bvninja It’s a very different amp and was where Bartel got his ideas for the new amps. I have a Sky King and comparing it to the new amps, which sound like musical instruments, the Sky King sounds more traditional. It’s gorgeous sounding clean and can scream when the lead is set to 10.

I have that same question. I have a Bartel Roseland. My friend loves the tones, but can't afford that one. So, he is considering a Sky King. The Sky King has Mark Bartel's circuit design, and they have Celestion Creamback speakers, the same ones used in the Roseland. From the video, I can hear quite a few similarities - not the same amp but a close relative. Has anyone heard both?

Hey Henning, Have you heard that simvertek no 5 pedal? Pete Thorn just released a video of it and he is raving about it. I would love to see you do a video on it with the wall of amps. It's funny he described it as giving you more of your amp kinda like what you said about the neo drive in. I was watching his video thinking I wish Henning would do this pedal. It really sounded great.

I will write them an email. Also, that hamstead odyessy pedal is supposed to be something special. Your set up makes you an ideal person to really put something through its paces. I will stress that to the company.

Just sent them an email. Gave them your email addy and explained the wall of amps and emphasized the importance of the consumer having a reference point of an amp. So they have an idea of what it's gonna sound like with their set up. Anyway, hopefully they contact you and if not well, I tried. Thank you very much also for being open to the idea. For the money I was very disappointed at how crooked the grille cloth was installed. Chinese throwaway amps aren't nearly as wavy along the top.

Husko Bar I see no waviness. It’s straight as an arrow when looking at the edges of the cabinet. There’s some camera weirdness occurring as the headstock shadow moves across the amp, but because it moves it’s obviously not the cabinet.

The Dynamis is one of the best clean sounds I know. The Sky King has even more depth and is a bit sparklier. Tough to explain... it jumps out a bit more. Both are phenomenal cleans.

TC should have really put two attenuators on the Imperial MKII because when you attenuate the clean channel, and switch the lead you get a volume pop. Other than that, the Imperial MKII gives great Marshally/Fender tones through the roof.

Walts Synthlab You have a choice with the Imperial to apply the attenuator to the clean channel or not, so it’s possible to adjust the clean volume so it’s the same volume as the lead or even make the lead quieter than the clean.

Paid or not paid I could tell you like this amp. It does sound great but lack of effects loop puts it out of the running. It also sounded a little noisy but maybe normal for tubes pushed that much.

Lindsay Holman You need to hear the lead channel live. It’s much better than the video sounds, and where I leave mine always. At 10 with the tone and mid-bite at 5 each, I control it from the guitar and it goes from clean to scream.

To bad it's not handwired. it has PCB's...My solid state drive Quilter 101 with reverb sounds better and cost $399.00 USD. If you want the best handwired, CARR Amplifiers.

AlonStark go sky king without a doubt. The double attenuated channels and higher wattage truly makes this amp sound huge compared the imperial. The imperial is very ice picky and this amp fixes that as described by the creator of the amp Mark Bartel in many vid on KZfaq. Both are amazing though but if you have to go with one like I did, I went for the sky king. It’s worth saving up a little more and paying.
