Have had the ability to have both Imperial MK2 and Sky King to use at home for months. Not at same time but different times. I went with Sky King, because I’m a 6L6 fan and it struggled less with high gain pedals. Plus the $2999 price tag is off putting, but I found most dealers would knock it down to $2650 for me. After seeing the $280 difference I spend after I talked to dealers…Sky King was a no brainer! Just depends if you like 6v6 or 6L6 and speaker included. I was trying out Fender Reissuex with a $1400 budget. I had 3-4 of them returned with issues. So this pile of amps in my house! All with problems…I took a drive out to a rural area to see a Fender Tech. I showed up to this house with a 57 Chevy in his driveway, walk in to all these beautiful amps! That’s where I first played a Tone King. After dissecting these Fender Reissues and hanging with the Fender Tech for 2hrs. It really convinced me to go this route! I’m not a blues player either! More a Indie Rock/Jack White Style player and so some grunge. This amp works very well for that! I wouldn’t play metal on it….but with the right pedal you can def do a convincing 70s Super Lead tone! Love mine ad with the amp plus pedals I hand 6-7 amps here in one box! Covers a LOT in the studio Vs buying day a handwired Deluxe for 3.2k, or a Marshall that’s really good at one thing! Great for 50s-early 2000s Garage Revival Rock. And haven’t found a amp so solidly built, and made some well…outside maybe a Two Rock that’s out my league lol. But this amp does it all for a guy like me at 40, that needs a studio amp at low volume at home, to off the chain in practice and live. My only thing is I think a 2x12 would fit perfect with this! And I’m happy it has an extension cab. Was bummed the Imperial MK2 combo didn’t. But was a great amp for light weight gig combo. I’m still young enough to carry the Sky King around lol. But the MK2 may be better for those that need something a bit lighter. As well as aren’t very big pedal guys. If I was an older blues player, doing local bar and fair gigs..MK2 with a mic on it makes more sense.

I have the previous generation, handwired with the 4 ohm/8 ohm output and the Celestion 65 Creamback. There are SO many great sounds in this amp. As you discovered, Pentode mode on the clean channel with single-coils is a knockout, but Ultralinear mode on the dirty channel with a neck humbucker...droool! Pair this up with an American-voiced extension speaker (open-back Eminence Legend 1258, for instance) and it just FILLS the room, even at low volume. You can feel the tremolo in your chest.

Great sound but I steer clear of channel switching only cos I had probs in the past so got a basic "Good" amp and a fuzz peda peda.. Can't ignore the qualitity and thought that went into making that combo but switching channel amps always go a little bi-polar after switching a few hundred times. I would'nt say "No" if it were offered to try out.
