Picked mine up the other day and seems to work well so far and made about 30 cuts in a log over 1' in diameter and still had 3 out of 5 lights on the battery indicator..

Good Deal. I used the saw over the weekend for a small downed tree. I noticed eGO updated the smaller chainsaw this year with flush bar oil plug and bar chain tensioner. Looked like good improvements on par with a small gasoline chainsaw. Wondering if they will update this saw the same next year.

Speaking frim experience with the mower, when you get home later than you meant and still want to get work done, the LED lights are amazing. The chainsaw is probly too loud for night work, but it is still an awesome feature to have in case you need it.

I have this Ego 18" chainsaw and it makes almost no sound when running. I have cut about 4 cords of wood with it.

Another great benefit is illuminating inside the cutting surface, especially if in shaded areas, as well as if cutting wood indoors or under a roofed area where sunlight isn’t strong.

i've only had this saw a short time, but it seems to me that the chain tensioning works differently than my gas saws, which have the bar bolts and then a separate chain tension screw. the chain tension knob on this saw seems to combine those functions, but you still have to hold the bar up as you're tightening the knob, just as you do with a gas saw to keep the tension accurate. again, i'm new to this saw so i may misunderstand, but perhaps that is the source of your loose bar. when i hold the bar up as i'm tightening the knob, i don't get the wobble you're showing here, and my chain is not over-tensioned.

I've held the bar up while tensioning before, I'll try that again. I've seen that they redesigned the 16" eGO saw for this year so I'm guessing this saw will have an updated tensioner soon.

I was looking at the Echo DCS-5000 56v, which is the upgrade from the Project Farm 58v that one. It seems like Echo anecdotally is still the best(250+ cuts on 1 🔋) , but I did get a an Ego 650 cfm blower, and am happy with it.

Project farm compared it against the 14” ego, not the 18” ego. It’s a completely different league and way better than the Echo. The 14” only had the tiny 2.5AH battery too. With EGO, you can go all the way up to 12AH on the same tool (2.5, 5, 7.5, 10 and 12 AH). They also offer a backpack link to hold the weight on your back and have the tools lightweight and batteries compatible across their entire lineup (even the ride on Z6 mower).

I love my 16" ego. I really want to upgrade to the new 18". For really small jobs, I prefer the 2.5Ah batteries because they're a lot lighter.

@@projectpinehills Do you know if you can swap out the 18" chain and bar with a 16" on this saw if you're doing small jobs? Also, can you swap between 2 and 5 amp hour batteries? Will the saw perform the same, just have shorter run time?
@projectpinehills
@projectpinehills 6 ай бұрын
Yes, you could go to a smaller bar size. If you put in a smaller battery, the tool will adjust its power output automatically to a lower power output.

Curious if you like/recommend this Ego over the Echo 56v and/or Dewalt 60v chainsaws? Trying to decide which one to go with, and can't determine best one.
@projectpinehills

Consuer Reports ranked it #1 over the Echo: egopowerplus.com/media/productattach/custom/consumer-reports/C116918-3_Chainsaws_Ratings.pdf I do recommend it over the other saws and consumer reports ranked it #1 in their testing. I believe that this saw would have outperformed the Echo in the Project Farm test considering the lower end Ego model seemingly did better but was hampered with a small Ego battery. I have not seen the recently announced updated DeWalt 60 volt saw yet. But it's easy to decide if choosing a platform for all Outdoor Power Equipment like leaf blowers, string trimmers, hedge trimmers because Ego wins in those areas.

I am thinking seriously about getting one of these. I am in Southeast Asia and the electric service here is 220v. Usually things like battery charges are rated at a range from 100-240v. Could you take a look when you have a free minute and see what the rating is on the battery charger? Thanks.

I was sold on this one until you showed the wobble - I'm not so sure about that... I absolutely hate having to reset the blade and the chain with tools in the field - If the chain pops off can you put it back on the blade and get it tightened without any tools whatsoever?
@projectpinehills
@projectpinehills 2 жыл бұрын
Right, you don't need any tools, that is a big plus. One gentlemen told me he didn't have that wobble. I did mess with a display model in the store that appeared to do the same thing. The chain has never popped off or loosened even for me to have that concern. It's a great saw though an update maybe in the works for next year.

I have had this same Ego 18" chainsaw and the blade does comes loose after prolonged use, but there is NO chainsaw tool to use to tighten the chain. There is only the side hand tightener it works great. After cutting for over 30mins its good to check to see how much you can pull the blade away from the bar, if its loose a few quick turns on the adjuster and its tight again. I have cut about 4 cords of fire wood the last few years and no problems. You may just want to get an extra blade, and one gallon of Orgon bar oil because it DOES go through some bar oil.

@@projectpinehills I have this same 18" chainsaw and after a few years and cutting about 4 cords of wood for my fire pit it works GREAT! I would recommend this chainsaw to EVERYONE that cuts wood that is NOT a lumberjack/professional tree cutter that may need a 36" bar for huge trees, anyone below that, this is a great chainsaw as long as you have enough batteries. What I do is buy a tool, battery, and charger and basically get the tool for free.

I know this is an old video, but that "wag" is simply not having that adjuster tightened. You loosen the adjuster, then you tighten it. The bar tightens the chain because its spring loaded. The adjuster has nothing to do with the adjustment itself. You are operating the saw with a loose bar by not tightening it.
@projectpinehills
@projectpinehills Жыл бұрын
That’s not the case. You don’t want the chain that tight. Look at the 16” model, they’ve redesigned it and I think this will see a redesign too. Thanks for commenting and thanks for watching!

That’s is a drawback with cordless power tools. Right now you are better off buying another tool that comes with a battery due to the cost. How does that cost compare to the cost of 2 cycle fuel mix and gas over time as well as carburetor issues. Thanks for watching. 👍
