Guess you never had a bad knee or ankle and needed crutches. I found this to be excellent info. My friend gave me a pair of mobi's and now I know what they are all about. I just had surgery on my ankle.

Josh, I thought this was very interesting! I am 55 and have had five knee surgeries (including total replacement of each knee) and a broken ankle, in the last 14 years. I was never able to use crutches because I lacked the upper body strength. I had to use walkers, canes, and even a knee scooter during all those recoveries. I was only ever issued the standard aluminum hospital crutches. Your video makes me wonder if I would have had more success with the more advanced designs you show here, if they were even available back then. On another note, you are so right about the potential for shoulder damage from crutches. I had a coworker who seriously messed up his knee playing soccer (think, multiple ligament ruptures and torn meniscus, etc., etc.,) and had a huge surgery to repair it. He was on crutches for many months. He didn’t use them properly and ended up with a torn rotator cuff in one shoulder, and had to have another big surgery. No fun at all. I’m glad to see you looking well.

Hi my name is Kathy and I use the Mobilegs Ultra. I am 100% disabled. These crutches are truly amazing. I have been using them for about 8 years now and boy can I really move out. Love the 2 adjustable positions for how long your torso is and thru the waist. The grips for your hands are soooo comfortable, the spring, swivel comforter under the armpits baskets are so comfortable and really move with you. The feet have a rocker/roll thru your walk instead of stripping with old metal crutches. Moblilegs are truly the best!!! For short term, long term or possibly for the rest of my life. Thank you Moblilegs, Kathy :-)

Fun crutch side effect: my grandmother has been using forearm crutches for a good few years now. She walks a lot and often stops to talk to the neighbours, so she spends a lot of time outside and in the sun. She is 92 and so is her skin and it wrinkles up when she is holding and using the crutch. But when she stretches and bends her wrist you can see her skin is striped since it doesn't get sun inside the wrinkles. It's cute it looks like tiger stripes.

I just had a Periacetabular Osteotomy surgery on my hip (will be several months on crutches for each side, including 6 weeks non weight bearing), and everybody in the Facebook group LOVES & recommends the Mobilegs. I've used other forearm crutches, SmartCrutches and axillary crutches before, and the Mobilegs are definitely my favorite so far.

Thanks for the primer. I wish I had known when I was on crutches for short periods. Something about breaking my leg in a race and severely twisting my ankle in a fun run. I'm a klutz. I had to learn how to get on and off buses with narrow stairs and go up and down flights of stairs in my apartment building. The only problem I had was one day when I came back into my office building when it had been raining. A marble floor and a wet tip made one crutch slide out and I slammed my foot down to avoid falling. My foot with the cast. Don't be like your uncle and don't be like me. It's OK to laugh about it now but it truly wasn't funny then. One quibble: Axillary relates to the armpit. Auxiliary refers to something extra. There is a subtle difference in the pronunciation of the two words.

I bought Mobilegs crutches after reading good reviews on Amazon. I found them to be comfortable, durable, easy to adjust, portable, and good for tight spaces. I hang a reusable shopping bag off the handle of one so I don't have to carry things in my hands while attempting to retain the crutches. It feels much safer. After trying the Mobilegs, I no longer use the standard aluminum crutches the hospital gave me. Well worth the price.

2:13 the auxiliary crutches have that thing at the end of the nail (?) (I don't know how it's called in english) and sometimes I would poke and harm my leg with that so I had to remember to put always put it facing out and it was kind of annoying

This is exactly what I was looking for. An honest opinion of crutches. I had surgery on my achilles tendon and I am non-weight bearing for the next 6 weeks....and I suck at crutching. I have the standard issue aluminum gray ones and I can't even count how many times I have fallen with them. I have also fallen using just a walker. I am a klutz. I also have a knee scooter, but my knees are so sore from landing on them while falling that it hurts to use the scooter, plus my cat won't get out of the way so he keeps getting his tail clipped by my scooter. I have terrible balance, I'm 55 years old, 5 feet tall, my kids tell their friends that I'm a hobbit, and I have just been staying in my bed all day cause I'm too afraid to use the crutches to do anything. I was thinking that the Dynamo swing crutches might be good ones, but before I conviince my husband to buy them for me to try, I wanted to see some reviews on the stability factor. I told him the other day if there was a way to glue shoes onto the end of my crutches, then I might do better because I needed more stability, and a bigger tip, like a foot-sized tip for balance.

They are axillary (ax-ill-ary; AX like in chopping although most folks spell it AXE 🪓); NOT auxiliary (AUX), a trivial point. We do put them in our armpits, the axilla. Pardon my pickiness but I was a doctor. Great video by the way. I’m having foot/ankle surgery. Reconstruction versus amputation? Trying to figure out better crutches. I tried forearm crutches but I seemed to be too weak and my balance is poor due to neuropathy.
