This is much more organized than the tin coffee cans full of bolts my dad had growing up, I’d have empty the whole thing to find the right bolt. Haha

Having a wire wheel on a bench grinder or drill is great to clean up bolt threads of grit, corrosion and old threadlocker. Also, imagine the profanity that would ensue if that cabinet filled with drawers of bolts were to tip over.

For copper washers that you can reuse, they just need to be re-annealed. You can first sand them smooth both sides on very fine crocus cloth or sand paper, then heat them (annealing) to glowing red with a torch and let cool. That will rearrange the molecules such that it will regain its softness and sealing ability.

3:39 He said they were “taps” but it should be made clear, If he’s cleaning or dressing up threads, you want to use a “thread chaser” only. Running a regular tap into an existing threaded hole will weaken it.

Thanks for so many great tips. I grease pretty much every bolt. This is important with steel hardware threading into aluminum, etc. If you hear creaking or popping that's not good. Grease! When threads are properly lubed and clean you can feel the bolt bottom out and then start applying the proper amount of torque for the application. You can actually feel the threads and the metal stretch on high torque applications.

Ez look inserts are also really really awesome. They use standard thread sizes and can be installed with a screwdriver.

A friend, who is way more knowledgeable about dirt bikes than I, always warned me to not overtighten the drain bolt... Both of our kids ride 85's & his kid came off the track saying his bike was making weird noise. Drain bolt backed out & fell off.......... I'm cranking that sucker every time..

I was able to save my tank screws on a CR250 with JB Weld. I think it was because the JB Weld stuck to the brass and filled in where it spun out. I think I lucked out.

I bought one of those kits from rocky mountain for a yz250, and everything was made of soft aluminium. Just buy OEM now. Not worth it after stripping or broken bolts.

It is problem of customers who don't understand what they buy. Aluminum bolts are for weight reduction and used only for plastic. If you stripping bolts, buy already a torque wrench.

@@nastysoda9212 I live in china and use chinese aluminum bolts without problems. Looks like "US quality" became worse than chinese.
