Check out this amazing all original 1971 Opel GT. It’s a one family from new Opel still wearing its original paint. Could this be the best survivor example in the country?

What an absolute beauty. I remember these in England in the 70's,,,, I would certainly advertise this in Europe when you come to sell it,,,,, even new they didn't look as good as that one,,, they were mostly yellow or white,,, but I've seen a couple this color and I love it . There were so many great little sports cars around back then,,, the MGB's & C's,,, Spitfires, 924's, Elan's etc etc.

I'm shocked by how knowledgeable you are about Opel GTs! The only little mistakes were the one about the Solex, and the headlight indicator light. The Solex was in fact a 2-barrel, with 32mm throttle bores. And if the headlight indicator remains lit when the lights are up, you have an electrical issue. It should only be lit if the headlights are not locked open or closed. Yours looks functional! Great video! I miss my GT's dash looking that good 😢 And there were several unsold 1973 GTs with single-digit mileage! They were re-imported back to Germany last I heard.

We had an Opel Manta and loved it! FYI: The locking gas cap was because of the 70’s Fuel Crisis when gas thievery was rampant. As for the Opel clocks,🕰️ I think they were set straight from the factory to tell the correct time twice a day.😁 Nice video, cool car.👍😉

The first car I owned was a 1972 Opel GT. It taught me how to work on cars because it broke a lot, but in it's defense, when I bought it, it had almost 200,000 miles on it. Had great memories of that little car. Wish I could find another.

the C3 was already in development as Project Opel and the team working on the Opel GT got to see the designs of the C3 and took some design ideas from what they saw. they didnt tell the GM bosses until the car was unvailed.

Even in the late 1970's one of those headlight assemblies was one of the most expensive parts to go out and buy for a repair. We had one in our shop once around 1978. Yellow car. What a nightmare putting that one back together. Before you buy this car check around to find out what it's like to get stuff like windshields and plastic pieces like signal light covers etc. in case you need replacements. If you find any for sale, buy them. Buy them now. And that flip over headlight assembly. That was a $300 part in 1978. It would be at least $3K now.

@@MilkCrateGarage I don't think there were many aftermarket parts for an Opel GT at least in '78. It's crazy how cheap things like taillight lens covers were back in the day, and now THAT's the stuff that's crazy expensive. I keep telling people who are ordering parts for old cars, "If you can find one, try to buy two."
@MilkCrateGarage

@swilkobarfingtoniii1642 Parts availability for the GT now is probably better than when it was new! I've bought mechanical parts, trim pieces, lenses, etc. The days when you couldn't buy basic necessities are long over! I'd say Opel GT Source is personally responsible for much of that availability, they commission new parts production quite often and are quite invested in our little cars!

Fantastic condition and incredibly beautiful green paintwork. Little known fact : the large majority of the Opel GT bodywork production was made in France by Chausson (a former company better known for its buses), then sent to Opel Russelheim plant for the full assembly. Since the 90's I have the dream to find a bad condition Opel GT (not a wreck, tho) even without the engine, then rebuild it with recent brakes and suspension system and the 2L turbo engine from the Opel Calibra. 200 hp for less than a metric ton equals lots of fun.
@wacholder5690
@wacholder5690 10 ай бұрын
The other manufacturer in France was Brisseneau & Lotz ... and the GT ran along the same assembly line with the Peugeot 304 (I think) Coupé which they'd outsourced to be made elsewhere. Even though the GT is *technically* based on the Opel Kadett B LS Olympia the only body part it shares with it is the rear section with the axle strut mounts and the inside rear bench railing - and that was it. The front frame rails are from the Kadett B (largely) but not the firewall nor the front floor pans. Not even the front axle body is the same. On the Kadett the engine sits atop the axle in weld-on motor mounts and the oilpan sits *before* the axle. On the GT it sits on a separate mount rail behind the front axle and the oilpan behind the axle body. That axle - by the way - is a fully independent double wishbone type with the transverse leaf spring acting only as a spring, not involved in the wheel guidance or stabilization. 🙂 I had some GTs in the 1980s and restored a few when they were sold for scrap metal prices. Missed to keep one as an investment unfortunately.
