Yes they are all amazing talents, but you are right, not all are my cup of tea. I prefer a melodic sound on acoustic guitar. Percussion and tapping are fine if incorporated into a piece where more appropriate. But then, they all blow my talent off the planet so I can't criticize their efforts. I just couldn't listen to that style all day. But give me Tommy Emmanuel, Richard Smith, Loren and Mark, and now I've heard Nick Charles.

It was my extreme pleasure to see Estas Tonne perform in person. His compositions don't always end when you think that they are over, and sometimes he ends a song and remains holding the guitar as if he is about to continue, so by the end of the concert, people were so confused about when to applaud that he actually had to gesture to the audience to acknowledge that the song had indeed ended. That being said, his performance was nothing short of phenomenal.

If you like that sort of thing, go watch the "House of the Rising Sun" cover by Luca Sestak, piano and drums. Stick with it, he really opens up somewhere after the halfway point. My favorite cover of that song. At the end the drummer uses a very cool effect on the cymbal that I've never seen, and you'll see Luca smile at the point I'm talking about with the early clapping, which your comment brought to mind. Luca understands what a long pause can do for music, and utilizes them occasionally, to great effect. It was done at one of the major jazz or blues festivals, don't remember where.

They are all outstanding artists. My choice is Shunga Jung because I'm addicted to his style and technic, plus he started from a very young age and hi is still young (22), he plays already more than 1.000 themes, also composed many of them and also plays other instruments (piano, electric guitarr, ukelele, harp ukelele). He is very versatile, clean playing, simple but yet sophisticated, with outstanding timing. To me, easy to listen for hours.

I also see him as one of the best. He has the best right hand I have seen. He also actually plays the guitar, doesn't tap or rub it like half of the rest "finger-style" dudes. He does some tap every now and then but it's to support the strings, not the other way around. Him and Tommy Emanuel can play very accurately and delicately while actually strumming/picking really aggressively, which I like.

Is unfair comparing within so many outstanding ones.

I’m glad someone finally mentioned Michael Hedges - the predecessor of and innovator of many of these techniques. Obvious inspiration and influence (whether they know it or not) of many or most of these guitarists. And most likely the best and deepest composer of all of them. One of the saddest days of my life when he passed away in 1997. Supreme and sublime talent.

@kevinhannah2074
@kevinhannah2074 5 жыл бұрын
Couldn't agree more. The omission of Phil Keaggy is a crime. Much has to do with him being pigeon holed as a Christian guitarist and not taken as seriously as secular artists. It's funny since over half of his recordings are instrumental. Personally I believe he cracks the top 5 and the fact that he's missing his middle finger on his picking hand seals it.
@heavenfilm
@heavenfilm 5 жыл бұрын
@@kevinhannah2074 Yes It looks like many try to ignore Phil Keaggys talent because of his faith, cant see any other reason for it especially when he is not in list of best 50 or 100 but I will also say that its hard to say someone is best, because gitarists often have their own style and is good in their own way of playing, so many styles out there and technics and speed of playing that I dont think we can say one particular is better than everyone else. But I think we can say Phil is one of the best in finger style because of his great variation and flawless playing dificult stuff and his talent of creating melodic music he has over 50 records and he is also a excellent el gitarist and songwriter as well. He has been my favorite musician since 1983 just never get tired of his playing and songs. Great inspiration ! and to be able to do this with a half finger missing just makes him even better. Lets enjoy the variation of gifting many players have and appreciate them all. It all reflects God in the talents He gave men for us to enjoy.

Marcel Dadi should have been on the list.Great selection, no doubt. Martin from Poland was so cool. Tommy is my all time favourite.

Dadi was right up there with Chet and Jerry. He died in the crash of TWA 800. It was a center fuel tank vapor explosion, not a US Navy shootdown as the early rumors suggested.

I'm with you John, though not for the reason you might think. What set Marcin apart from all the other guys is his understanding of musical theory. He has such a deep grasp of it that he is able to rearrange music in ways that simply blow the minds of those who really know music. His ability to incorporate percussion into his pieces is also miles above everyone else on this list...like he's in the stratosphere, and everyone else is hanging out in the Mariana Trench...he frickin uses rasgueado technique on the body of his guitar!

@@tudifrudijohansen3258 Yeah, I know. He does compose his own songs as well though. I was commenting on his understanding of music theory, and how it is evident in his rearranging of very complicated classical pieces.

The best I ever seen was this kid named Randy. He was in a band called Shovel Head. I sat in with him a couple times at this coffee house in New Britain Ct back in the early 90's. His Mom was a classical pianist. He carved out his own scalloped neck and had I think two piano strings and 4 various guitar strings. He played the guitar laying down on his lap like a piano and had it run through midi so he could play sax or what ever sound he wanted. It was so rich and full coming from just one instrument. I'm really surprised I've never seen him on one of these videos. He was way ahead of his time.

Excellent stuff! Thank you. I think you'll get a few comments from tne guitar "purists" of this world. Some won't like the drumming acoustics that a lot of modern guitarists do, others who watch this will complain about it's authenticity as fingerstyle ...and so it goes on. It is still a list of excellent guitar players doing their thing. If anyone complains about this/your KZfaq video, it simply means they cannot do it as well as these players!! I am professional guitarist and I think you should do more youtube stuff like this. Please.
