Great video, thanks for taking time to make it. I bought 4 of these stall mats for in the house at Cal Ranch stores, made in Canada, same thing but they had a smooth surface. The odor was so bad I had to remove them. Now I'm just using a scrap commercial carpet, not what I want but still looking for something that doesn't off gas toxic fumes. These mats are great rubber for sure, but for me not in the house if you or your family are sensitive to chemical odors. The rubber rolls at REP look great, saw them on Amazon also. But some reviews say they have no odor, and some say they stink too bad. Who can you believe?
@MattTolbers
@MattTolbers 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Shaune! The stall mats I got do give off a bit of an odor when you first get them, but within a pretty short amount of time it went away. If you were to get them I’d buy 1 first and just spray it down with the hose outside and scrub it with some soap quick and maybe let it sit in the garage for a few days before bringing it in. I don’t think you’d smell it at all after that, but at least you’d only have 1 first to test before a bigger investment was made. Now the rubber mat rolls or zip tiles are made specifically for an in home gym so I’m sure they won’t smell as much right off the bat as a stall mat which is made for a horse stall would.

Thanks for the video. My question is would the Zip interlocking tile mats handle the weight of a power rack or would the power rack sink into the mats ? I’m in an apartment and have hardwood flooring that I need to protect. My concern is the rack 4 Uprights sinking into the mats and making the rack uneven and possibly unstable. I don’t plan on dropping weights on the mats I just need to protect the floor.
@MattTolbers
@MattTolbers 4 жыл бұрын
The rubber 1/2 zip will work fine, especially if you’re not dropping you’re weight. I wouldn’t recommend the foam if you’re going to be putting a lot of eight on your rack though, it’ll probably sink in a little

@MattTolbers
@MattTolbers 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Charlie, you want to cut them with a utility knife on some concrete. Do a light cut at first to make sure you get your cut straight and then another pass or two pushing harder to cut all the way through. Just make sure nothing is underneath when you cut, like another stall mat or it will cut that one also which would suck. This is the knife I used amzn.to/2Weqnqh

quick question, if I dont drop weights from overhead and don’t plan on deadlifting heavy weights, mainly have a rack for squats bench, rows and accessory work along with an air bike. I personally only smelled them a bit at first, but they lose most or all of the smell pretty quickly. I think you should be fine, but some peoples noses are super sensitive so hard to say. @MattTolbers
@MattTolbers 4 жыл бұрын
Mine hardly smelled at all in my opinion, but they were stored outside so maybe that helped get rid of that before I bought them. It’s in my insulated garage so would be similar to your basement and it doesn’t smell at all anymore so I highly recommend them. @MattTolbers
@MattTolbers 3 жыл бұрын
These mats are about 100lbs a piece and do not slide at all once laid down. A vehicle will not damage them only make them dirty. Laying them over your wood floor shouldn't damage them. I'd wash them with soap and water after you purchase and let them air dry before bringing them indoors to help with rubber smell. Mine only smelled for a couple days.
