The best hair straightener for you? As a pro Hairstylist since 1995, I've used a a LOT of irons. In this video I compare the Infrashine, L'Oreal Steampod and the Dyson Corrale to help answer the question...do you NEED to spend a lot on an iron? I help you figure out what iron would be best for your hair, explain the differences between them and help you determine if you actually get what you pay for. I reveal what I've learned from using these flat irons behind the chair as well as give you a real life example of what you could expect from each of these irons.

Well I went all out!! Dyson!! I don’t even use a straightener on a daily basis. My hair is color treated (professionally), fine but a lot of it, straight in some areas, wavy underneath. I never know which way to go with it...soooo I purchased the Dyson bcz of this challenge. So easy to use. It is almost as if “it” knows what to do with your hair. I have never been able to figure out to create anything with a flat iron. This makes it so simple. I also purchased bcz of hair health. Hope this helps others figure out what they are trying to achieve with their hair. Thanks for all your helpful videos Justin!

Just came across this video and wanted to add my input based on personal use of the Dyson and Steampod. I have shoulder length fine hair, but medium density and a slightly wavy texture. I got the Dyson first bc I wasn't sure about the steam making my hair “damp” which would then make it frizz up later. I actually hated the Dyson and I wanted to love it bc of the damage technology and being cordless etc... But, the Dyson made my hair feel crispy and it didn't smooth out the ends very well and actually made my hair feel very damaged and not as shiny as with an inexpensive straightener. I returned it after a couple washes giving it a few chances to change my mind. I bought the Steampod and I can tell you that it is hands down the best straightener I've ever had. It leaves the hair smooth and silky and really feels like it's not as damaging to the hair. It really makes the hair feel sleek and look so shiny and I get tons of compliments when I use it. I was wrong about the steam making the hair damp...it doesn't leave it damp at all and the results last for a few days. With the Dyson, my hair felt so damaged and dry, I had the give my hair a wash and deep condition after the second day or it felt horribly crunchy. I don’t use a straightener every time I style my hair, but honestly this one (the steampod) I think you could if you wanted to bc it makes my hair feel healthier. I don't know why it's so good but best one I've ever used. Just thought I would throw my opinion in here since I've used almost everything out there :) Thanks for your video Justin. I would have never washed, dried, and straightened my hair 3 times back to back. Your wife is a sweetie.

In an attempt to compromise between heat damage and straightening my hair, I air dry my hair and using the previous model of the steam pod you were testing, set it to a lower temperature than my one heat GHD straighteners. Since having the steam pod I have stopped using the GHD completely. The steam and comb combination with the hot iron plates leaves my hair super straight, shiny and manageable for days. This is a win for me, my hair is a similar length to your wife’s hair, although my hair is a little frizzy before using the steam pod. Thanks another great review.

I have both the Dyson and Steampod. I have a bias towards the steampod because I have curly hair and lives in a humid country. It really helps with the frizz and I wash my hair 1-2 times a week. Dyson on the other hand, made my hair super nice too and it curls better than my steampod. I love them both that I gave up my Glampalm and GHD. 🤭❤️

I've also got curls, so the Steampod is my go to as well. Have you considered the new 4.0 version? They now have a curl feature, and it looks like it was designed for curly haired people who want a straightened look with waves or loose curls. That's one of the reasons why I think I'll be buying it.

So I have lots of wavy/curly hair and I swear by the L’Oréal steampod. I drew black arrows on it with a sharpie (their arrows not easy to see) so that keeps me going in the right direction easily. I section my hair and move it slowly through. It straightens like a dream and lasts for days (unless I get caught in rainy weather then all I need is a quick run through the top section with my GHD’s -very good/popular straightener in the UK). I love the steampod and still have the original with the separate water tank 😳 which I have kept as a back up. A friend commented on how good the condition of my hair is considering I must straighten the life out of it daily…oh no, I told her…I only use my steampod on hair washing day cos it lasts til next wash! Love your videos Justin 👍♥️

I did order off QVC the dyson but sent it back did not glide through smoothly and snagged and style did not stay frizzed before end of day! Team Steampod all the way!!

I actually have the Steam Pod 1.0, and I've used it for maybe 10 years. Since it's so big and is getting old, I'm getting a new one. I have 3C curls, so I need an iron that is efficient, gentle and fights frizz. I spend maybe 1 hour doing my hair. Your wife has much straighter hair than me, and doesn't necessarily have the same priorities as me. From everything I've seen so far, I think I'm buying the new Steam Pod. It just seems to give a much smoother result and keep the frizz at bay more efficiently. If the Dyson one had steam as well, then _MAYBE_ I would shell out the extra for that one.

I feel like L'Oreal really thought of us frizzy/curly/coily girls when they came up with the Steampod. Most irons on the market are made for straighter hair in mind.
@Zeverinsen
@Zeverinsen 7 ай бұрын
@@cfoster6804 They also say in a lot of their ads that it is great for curls and frizz. They have been exclusively using a model with curls not too different from mine in their ads for their new 4.0 iron, _and_ I feel like the new curl function was meant for people with medium to long curly hair, who want an elegant look with body and shape. It's not properly available in my country yet, so I'm going to buy the 3.0 used while I wait for the 4.0. The Dyson products just aren't worth it for my hair, because the steam and comb alone are features I'm not willing to abandon! Also, knowing that they developed the SteamPod with Rowenta, and how I've had my old one since 2011 or 2012, I know they make quality products that will last.

Justin...your timing!!!!! I keep pondering on the Dyson. I saved my points at Ulta to obtain this. And now the time is here and I keep researching to make sure the fit is right for me. Oh, btw, did you get that puzzle piece back in the box? That was worrying me. LOL!! I was curious, could you do a video on how well these flat irons (or ones of your choice) perform at making multiple curl patterns? What would be your choice then? I don't want to necessarily straighten my hair all the time. I enjoy the messy curl.

I cut off over 10 inches, and am suffering from dry hair and breakage. The texture has completely changed and I don’t know how to style it. With that being said I need some way of styling my hair to make it look presentable when I do have to go out. I work mostly from home so I can get away with air drying/no heat most days. I’ve switched stylists and invested in a remy hair halo. I haven’t had my appointment to color match and style the halo yet. Given all this info. I rarely use an iron just because I can't seem to get much body at the scalp. When I want it straight--or smooth--I sometimes use that huge oval brush (several brands now) that is used on damp hair. This is a great question! It really depends on a lot of factors. The key things to look for in an iron are that one, it doesn’t get over 400°. Two, the plates are at least ceramic and not simply ceramic coated. This will help distribute the heat more evenly. And three, the most important part, is that the technique is correct. If you follow those guidelines, and use a good fight iron, the damage should be surprisingly minimal. The concern comes if we start adding different kinds of hair, color or specific texture concerns like very fine hair etc. you should be ok with once a week. It will damage your hair to some extent, but likely you wouldn’t even notice the damage it would be so minimal.

Would hair texture play a role in which is better and easier on the hair?
@justinhickox
@justinhickox 3 жыл бұрын
That’s a fantastic question! Absolutely hair texture matters. With these three irons in particular I’ve used them on different hair textures and found that the L’Oreal and Dyson are both very good with multiple textures. One of the most important aspects is the way they deliver heat across the plate which creates how efficient the iron will be. The more efficient the The less heat and less time under heat it would take to receive similar results. That would equal less damage.

Pretty good. You get more loose curls with it since it's wider.

Imagine taking 2 minutes to straighten your hair that's not even something I'd dream about

I checked one of your videos about 2 months ago, to see if you had any recommendations for a temperature controlled straightener. I bought the Infrashine. I am very happy with my purchase. However, I have such stinking straight hair that when I try to give my hair some curl, even after using a buildable hair spray to start, and using a strong hold spray to finish, I'm lucky if the style holds 30 minutes. Yes, I have fine hair, I do not color treat my hair, I am over 55 and graying. Help. Please?

Have you try curling smaller sections? slide the flat iron more slower than usual? Detangle/brush every section just before passing the flat iron? clipping up every curled section with a clip/pin until it cools down? I think these tips can help. Not so sure about the buildable spray before ironing, but PLEASE make sure you always protect your hair from heat. Let me know if this helps or nay!

Can you curl/wave hair with the Steampod?
@cfoster6804

Yes, not tight curls though since it's kinda wide but the curls it makes are beautiful and bouncy.

I appreciate the idea of the video... but - considering that your wife's hair was virtually dead straight to start with - I thick any hair straightener would have worked! Thanks anyway.

Why is steam desirable in a flat iron? Humidity is my number one enemy lol

Steam sounds counterproductive, but is the best in frizz control in humid environments for my hair, which is naturally frizzy

If your hair has moisture it won't pull it from the environment.

I tried the Dyson...definitely nothing special and not worth it.

I think it depends on the persons needs. I definitely don’t think it makes sense for everyone and I actually had some reservations when I first used it as well. After having it in the salon and using it daily for the past year, I LOVE it. There is SO much technology put into that iron. It really is an amazing iron.

@@justinhickox The cordless factor is nice, but it's heavy and costs a fortune and didn't do a better job on my long, thick hair. I found a great one that's digital with a plate lock for storage and a swivel cord for under $100. It's either a Revlon or L'oreal .

Totally hear ya. I think the big thing with the Dyson isn’t just the cordless aspect, it’s the research and development that went in to how it delivers heat. That’s the biggest factor in how efficient it is and how much it damages your hair. It’s something that you may not recognize the impact until you e been using it on your hair for a little while. After talking to their development team and asking a BUNCH of questions, I can say I was VERY impressed with how meticulous they were about engineering it. I think most irons in today’s market do a reasonable job of straightening hair so it can be tough to tell which is better at first ( I know it can be tough for me at times). That’s also why I think different irons are good for different people. Not everyone needs something that specific and if you can find an iron that meets your needs for cheaper....awesome!!!

@@justinhickox I agree. I did a lot of homework before I bought it and I had high hopes. But I was disappointed so alas, I guess it was not meant to be, so back it went lol! Blessings to you!

Ceramic or something else?
@justinhickox
@justinhickox 3 жыл бұрын
Great question! Ceramic, is great but other materials like the Dyson and L’Oreal irons are great as well. The key is also knowing how evenly heated the plates are. That’s what I would really pay attention to. It will take a little bit of research into an iron to learn but it’s super important.

@@justinhickox I have long thick curly hair . Years ago I noticed the big difference in ceramic vis metal. I used the chi for years. I found off brand full ceramic and noticed my time was cut in half. I appreciate this video looking for new one and a really good curling iron for the feathering look. Natural curls don’t always behave lol 😂

Why’d ya make her wash and straighten each time ? Poor thing 🤣. She was a good sport . Seems unnecessary. Why not just straighten it between each tool ?
