Yap.. There's a comparison of Makita impact wrench and a Makita knock off. One is 150 $ while a knock off is 30 bucks.. Torque on the knock off says 530 Nm while the Makita advertises 280 Nm.. The real numbers were... Makita - 270 Nm, Makita knock off 160 Nm. I mean you can write on a box that it flies and randomly spews out gold coins. It doesn't make it so..

Makita puts a lot of emphasis on battery longevity. That’s why they have extra protection circuits built in to shut down the tool to let the battery cool-down/recover, and why they don’t like using fast charging to charge the batteries. While other brands don’t have a problem having you burn through batteries on occasion, then having to replace them. It’s not a bad thing, cause if you’re in a professional field where time is money, usually that time/money is worth way more than having to occasionally replace some batteries. On the other hand if you’re more of a DIY guy, or just don’t use power tools that often, then having to take a little longer to charge a battery, but have it last you longer, is not a big deal. To be fair tho, if you're a professional, you can probably afford to have multiple batteries, and always have one or two on the charger at all times...then it’s just a matter of tool preference. Like a politician I’ve just talked myself in a circle arriving back to where we started, without saying much in between...so please feel free to send me your donation to the Useless Advice Campaign.

Makita does make a rapid charger that is insanely fast at charging the 5ah batteries. I love mine.

Yeah Makita sells what they call a “Rapid” charger, and the charging times are definitely adequate, and not the slowest out there. But it’s not one of those super chargers that charges a 5 Ah battery in like under 15-20 minutes. Makita has commented on this before, they have been asked about it, and they have said that they care more about overall life-span, longevity, and degradation cycle of their batteries - than ultimate charge speed. Cause again, a DIY guy cares about his batteries lasting, and a professional can always afford an extra set of batteries that also live longer.

There was a time when battery drills were almost useless for occasional users because they had nickel-cadmium batteries that lost all their charge in a couple of weeks even when not being used, and often a charger that took 10 hours to get to full charge. They were OK if you used the drill every day and charged it overnight. The invention of the lithium-ion battery has done wonders for the practicality of battery powered tools.

Can definitely attest to makita batteries lasting. I still have batteries from 2013 that are carried in my toolbag for my impact wrench and recip saw.

thats interesting but i live in a hot country, that thing would probably cut out constantly if i needed to do a heavy days work with it, he said 20 mins for battery to cool, thats automatic fail for me,would be so annoying

@@ProjectFarmMax Soft torque is in first gear. Max hard torque is generated in shock from hard stop in second gear from the inertia and kinetic energy that is in relation with the speed sqared.

Project farm, thank you for doing clear and concise reviews. So many channels conduct less than scientific tests and tend to inject their opinion into the results. You're one of, if not the best, tool review channel on KZfaq. It's very hard to remove the human element from all of your tests but you do a fantastic job and get as close as possible without some seriously sophisticated equipment and a full blown metal fab shop. I’d like to see that too! I have a Kobalt 18v that I’ve had for around 4 years still running strong. I have a brand new Milwaukee FUEL and while it’s great, I still grab the Kobalt. Partly out of habit, partly because I like the grip a little better, and partly because it has never let me down.

You need a proper hammer drill for drilling in concrete, for steel etc. these are good, for concrete- useless. Good enough for occasionall drilling in bricks and other soft materials.

@@RaddestDad that's odd, because they work great for me every day. I'm an electrician. I install boxes, and conduit fasteners. I wouldn't use mine regularly for boring holes larger than 1/2". They make roto-hammers and concrete drills for that. My Milwaukee is unbeatable for the work I do most often. Much better than lugging around a 12# hammer drill all day.

Ratchets would be interesting! Testing some brand differences like Pittsburgh vs Icon and see how much better they are for the price. And see if icon brand keeps up with snap-on or Mac etc...

I don't even remember how I discovered this channel; I am a computer programmer who has never in my life used 95% of the products in Project Farm's videos yet I can't stop watching them! Legit, even as someone who has zero experience with these products he just makes it so damn interesting to watch with his well designed tested and unbiased enthusiasm. I have binging a ton of his videos the past week in my spare time, you just have to appreciate all the effort he puts into these tests. On the plus side my dad, who is an old school blue collar worker, is going to being getting some of the best quality father's day presents I can think of this year. lol

Well you're probably like me that appreciates how thorough he tests everything and makes sure all variables are the same when testing each tool. Its about as scientific as you can get without having a large sample size but that would be impractical. I come from a blue collar and science background so I can tell this is a good trustworthy review of each tool to help me buy them.

Yeah, on a lot of their tools it really does seem like they run the battery with a lot less safety margin than some of the other brands. That would explain some of their impressive performance and numbers on (basically) identical batteries to competitors.

I think that really holds them back from calling them a second place honestly. From an analytical standpoint. The top 3 were terrible, with Milwakee and Dewalt having the Electric clutches, waiting to snap a weak fastener. But the Makita with it's weak battery gave it horrible standing as well. The Bottom 3 were exactly that, the ones you really shouldn't consider. I wait for round 2, maybe there is best of the best hammer drill. Or maybe they all have a really bad single fault that you just live with as a consumer. I wanna know.

I've been a Makita user for 20 years or so. As a contractor I rely on my tools and have routinely put bigger hole saws etc than are definitely recommended. Makita builds safety's into their tools for longevity, all the while still being very productive. The batteries getting hot is definitely a thing, but you really have to put them to extremes to get there. Makita actually builds in an overload safety into the drill that shuts it down when extreme over torque is experienced, attempting to save the user from injury.

I would especially like to see a comparison of the cheapest, nastiest Hazard Fraught SDS rotary hammer against one of the fancy hammer drills. I don't really understand the utility of hammer drills when you can get decent cheap SDS drills that (I suspect) destroy even the nicest hammer drills, all the while using cheaper and more robust bits...

Would need to differentiate between SDS-+ & SDS-Max. Based on our experience the Hilti TE30 & TE60 would dominate both, except it’s slow battery charger. The Hilti however is much pricier. I’d be very interested to see how the Makita X2 SDS-Max does. Very well priced compared to Hilti

Right. Between a normal combo drill/driver and a cordless SDS, I really don't even consider owning this class of tools anymore. A parallel comparison of various cordless SDS tools could verify that bias. Maybe there is a reason to own a regular hammer drill?

i have a bosch and i’m super impressed with it honestly, i’ve put that thing through hell and it keeps on working, ran it so hard the motor smoked a few times and yet it just keeps going, even had the whole clutch assembly come off after trying to drill a 1/2” hole through a 4x4 with it and simply hammered it back on and it hasn’t come off since, not even close to comparable to a top brand like dewalt but it’s a super good mid range drill

He can’t test every single brand . Just spend the money and buy either a dewalt or Milwaukee set . You can almost always bet whatever tool it is it will be good . I just buy everything Milwaukee so I can have plenty of batteries. Would do that with Dewalt if I had bought their set first .

VERY popular here in Australia, the batteries seem to be much better than their nearest competition (Makita) I moved to MIlwaukee, but have one gripe. I drill out a lot of top plates to run cables and swarf (Or whatever the wood equivalent is called) keeps falling behind the trigger and limiting the speed :( Other than that its been great, I have even calibrated it a few times (Fell off my ladders onto the slab) and still works great.

I'm a Milwaukee fan as well. Chuck is starting to fail on my drill but it's had like 4 years of flogging. That prick has a solid amount of torque though. Good way to almost break a wrist! 😂

Ridgid and milwaukee come out of the same factory. Both are made by TTI. Dewalt is made by stanley, makita is still independent company

Rigid is good but not great. Had a friend of mine do a test and rigid was not worth it as it is even heavier and also did not perform as long or as well. Still is way better than kobalt and ryobi

I have a brushed Ryobi hammer drill. I've been using.it to install convayor belt clips and it does a pretty decent job torquing them down. If you're not careful the drill had the tendancy to rip out of your hands. On top of that a co worker knocked the drill off of a crusher and it fell 10 feet onto concrete and surprisingly it never broke and still to this day works well.

@Sandeep P you need to look for a brand called Unicorn. They don’t exist. There is no best brand. You should buy the best individual tool that is made best by one brand and then buy your next tool by which brand makes that best. You will have tools from every brand but each one will be the best at the time for that specific tool.

I have tried many brands, worked many years as a carpenter. My favorite is Hilti because they are very powerful and seams to last forever. Can take really rough handle without breaking. But there is machines more comfortable. But I must say Milwaukee make really great machines. Comfortable to use. Powerful enough for most work. Good price, probably Milwaukee give you most bang for the buck. I not think you will end up crying if you buy a Milwaukee tool. Also there is pretty good machines both from Makita and Dewalt.

@@fortressfrazze3777 Hilti's rotary hammer drills are fantastic. Pricey but if you use a rotary hammer as part of your job, a Hilti SDS setup is the best choice. Milwaukee, DeWalt, and Makita all make excellent tools for their intended market. Milwaukee is definitely on top but DeWalt cordless tools have been improving a lot in the last few years. Makita basically invented the cordless drill so I will always have respect for them.

You're killing me here! I need a brand X hammer drill, brand Y impact driver, brand Z shop vac, etc...Can you do a video on the best overall powertool ecosystem? Since so many tools these days don't come with batteries or a charger, it makes sense to pick a brand and stick with it, even though a different brand may have slightly better tools in some categories. I'd like to see a test that includes 4-5 different tools all in the same ecosystem.

I say that makita has the best ecosystem. Their product lineup is huge suits for everyones budget, from the cheapest to the expensive ones. They may not the very best, but their tools are built to last. I personally had the cheapest makita cordless drill, been using it for various heavy duty job, still going strong for many years. Milwaukee might be the best, but they offers only the best tools with hefty price tag which is a concern for most home users.

I like my Ryobi shit. Not building houses or skyscrapers, but does just fine with HVAC. Only burned up one drill so far, but I was abusing the shit out of it with a 4" hole saw. Got through 3 and a half floor joists* before it was totally smoked.

I'd say there's little question Milwaukee is the over-all top; they win or place 2nd in almost every test and have one of if not the largest tool offering, especially in the mechanic's tool range such as impacts and ratchets. The only question in my mind is M12 or M18 - they have put a lot of time and money into the M12 lately and the newest impacts are pushing 250 lbs or more. Only negative is as noted - not the cheapest.

I'd recommend the latest Ridgid tools for most of your needs. You can't beat the warranty. You must register the tools within 90 days then you get a lifetime warranty on batteries, chargers and tools if purchased as part of a kit. Seems a no brainer for the money and their tools would be in the top 3 in most comparisons. Just wish he would test Ridgid more often. I believe their brushless Hammer drill would be 1st or 2nd here as I've used Milwaukee, Makita, Dewalt and Ridgid.

I bought a Rigid pump. Came with a float switch. Float switch malfunctioned so it left the pump on and burned it out. I tried to get it replaced under the "lifetime warranty" They were like "Ok, we have a place that can repair it near you." So I call that place and they are like, we are commercial, can't do it. So I call Rigid back and they say "OK, sterilize it and send it to this address and we will see if it falls under warranty". So I needed to spend my $ to mail a heavy pump across the country to see if it fits in their warranty. Meanwhile my house has no septic pump. Um no. So my experience with Rigid lifetime warranty is not a good one.

I bought mine 10 years ago,, a full set. I used them almost everyday until they took me into retirement. I still use the almost every day doing hobby work and the honey do list. I have used the battery replacement warranty without a problem... It looks like mine was made on a Wednesday !!!!
