I always look forward to seeing a new video from "The Marine" even when I think I've got Hammock Camping down to a fine art, I'll see something new or learn a new trick, the little nets hanging from the Ridgeline was a new one for me, I keep several different sizes & lengths of "Prussic Lines" on a Carabiner to hang everything within reach while I'm laying in my hammock at night 👍🏻 Keep Up The Great Videos ✌🏼️🇺🇸

This video convinced me to go with an 11' netless extra wide. Thanks for the recommendation, its an amazing piece of kit and I love mine. I went with the beetle buckles and straps suspension system with a whoopie sling structural ridgeline and the dual knotty mod. It fits perfect and I sleep like a 6'2" 230lb baby.

I appreciate your channel and the time spent producing these informative topics. I have recently bought a hammock and tree straps. I do have a question regarding how to prevent rain water from running down the tree straps and eventually into the hammock?
@AdventureswiththeMarine
@AdventureswiththeMarine 4 жыл бұрын
You want to have the tarp about 6 inches past and over the knot or hardware that is connected to the continuous loops on the hammock. Even though the suspension is exposed in the rain. Water will run down the suspension. Hit the Knot or hardware. Which will act as a water brake. And drip down to the ground. Not the other end of the suspension. If your suspension is exposed with no water brake. Then you just tie a knot with part of the cordage dangling down on to your suspension that is under the tarp. The water will then travel down the Tree Straps. Hit the water brake the drip down the end of the loose cordage on the knot. In stead of the susupension. I hope this helps Mountain Walker49.

Well done video. Very thorough. I always buy hammocks without a ridgeline so I can use my sleeping bag instead of quilts, and I use a separate bug net because I hike a lot outside of bug season and into the winter. For summer only, l am considering buying a longer hammock with an integrated bug net, since insulation could be handled by using a flexible closed cell foam pad and my 1lb. full-zip down bag, which also doubles as a top quilt. God bless. Thank you for your service.

The stitching on my Hexon 1.7 was terrible. Missed seams, loose threads. I know it was discounted because of their surplus of the material, but it was really disappointing. Even if it's a clearance item, they should still do some QC. I enjoy their hardware and suspensions, but I can't trust them to buy another hammock. I switched to a Kammok Roo Double XL, and the stitching is perfect, it's lighter than Dutchware's, and so much more comfortable. Not to mention the gear loops. Wish I could say I might try one of Dutch's netted hammocks in the future, but they lost my hammock business quickly with the product I received. EDIT: I love your videos. This comment is in no way a shot at you. Hope to see more reviews from you!

Very helpful and informative video. Definitely subscribing. One question tho for this hammock what type of suspension would you recommend? By that I mean the whoopie hook, clinch buckles, or continous loop.
@AdventureswiththeMarine
@AdventureswiththeMarine 4 жыл бұрын
The continuous loop is what you connect the hammock to the suspension. You definitely have to have them. And they do not come with the hammock anymore. So you have to order them. For the past few years. I have been using the Whoopie Slings. (which are very light, packable and strong ) Bit now I have been using that Superior Hammock cinch buckles lately. ( which are heavier and more bulk ). But I am going to stay with them for now. So with that being said. I would recommend those. I did a video on them last year. So check it out. Thank you for watching Durn. I really appreciate it.

I agree on the 11 foot length make a very comfortable lay for camping. Modular is a plus as well for adding a bug net. The Hexon material is OK - and I have one made like this - and it is good. I wish there was a way people could try various materials, as there are other options - Dream Hammock does a great job at representing this. I thought DIY would be cheaper, but it has turned out to be an addiction, and a lot of work. There are so many material choices out there to suite individual needs ( Thus - HYOH - Hang Your Own Hang) - and so many great vendors to suite these needs. For me a Robix 1.0 has a great feel and stretch, but that is for me - and now my wife as she has taken a liking to that hammock - and now I can't find that material to make another one. Great video, and nice explanation for how to lay in one along with the options - Hope I can see you and Runner on the trail sometime - I like the work you do, and the info you give. Take Care, and thank you for the info. ;)

I thought about taking up sewing and buying a sewing machine. But I was afraid of being a hammock making addict. I believe that hammocks are like clothes. One size dose not fit all. Different materials feel and stretch different from one another. I would like to get all the hammock companies together and take among each other of these things. You are right. Randy from dream hammock is a head of the game. But there is more that can be done. And please don't think that I am trying to be an expert. I just love hammocks. Thank you for sharing that Sean. Based on this video, I will probably purchase that hammock with the mods you suggested. I currently have another brand of hammock with an integrated bug net but found that the mosquitos would occasionally bite me through the hammock. So I bought a separate, side entry, zippered bug net that gave me a little more protection, both laying and sitting. I just flip the hammock upside down so the integrated fly net is on the bottom, then slide an insolating pad between the two layers. BTW, thanks for reviewing the Superior Hammock cinch buckles in your previous video. I just used them for the first time this past week and love them! They work so much better, easier to use, fully adjustable and lighter weight than my old clunky daisy chains. I just completed watching your 6 part video series and learned so much. Thanks for showing us this netless hammock. Can the hammock be staked out to stabilize it in strong winds? Can you still stake it out when you use a Fronkey bug net or winter/summer sock?
@AdventureswiththeMarine
@AdventureswiththeMarine 3 жыл бұрын
You can get tabs or clips sewn on the side to stake it out. But I have never stake this hammock down. Other, I have. I have been in some high winds with this hammock. You would have to sew in some openings on the side of the bug net or weather sock, for it to work. But with a tarp pitched low. It would block the wind. But I do have to say. This wide 11ft. netless hammock is my favorite. Thank you for watching mudbone.

Hi there! Thanks for another great and informative video. I have a question, I watch quite a few hammock videos for my entertainment especially from you and Shug, but there are others too. How come I've never seen (at least I think I never did) any of the more popular hammock channels talk about the Ticket To The Moon hammocks? Maybe they are not so common in the US? Here in Europe if I go to a camping store, the first option they often have is the TTTM hammock. So that is also the first one I ever bought and I think its one of the best beginner hammocks (or even allround as you say) on the market. I upgraded mine with dyneema whoopies and ridgeline. They come in lots of colors too and a nice banana shaped stuff sack.
@AdventureswiththeMarine
@AdventureswiththeMarine 4 жыл бұрын
Please don't wrong. I am not trying to bash any company. I only want to help people and tell them the truth. The reason why I do not recommend the Ticket To The Moon hammocks for hiking or camping. ( If you are just going to use them for hanging at parks. Then that is a different story ) A good hammock is made of one piece of fabric. Not two or more. What makes a hammock so great is that it conforms to your body with the right amount of stretch, so there are no pressure points. With the different color fabrics sewn in. It will take away that stretch. The reason they put different color fabric in the hammock is for looks to boost their sales. Plus, when you lie on where the fabrics are sewn together. You now have a pressure point that may leave a mark. I like to always recommend hammock companies that make hammocks that fits you. One size do not fit all. ( just like clothing ). But I do have say that any hammock is better than no hammock. Use and enjoy the hammock that you have now. I hope that helped. Not not sound too judgmental. Thank you for watching Athaphian.
@athaphian
@athaphian 4 жыл бұрын
@@AdventureswiththeMarine That sounds very plausible indeed. Thanks for the in depth reply. I use my TTTM hammock purely for day camping around the campsite (normally I camp with a tent), recently I upgraded to a Warbonnet Eldorado which I hope to try out overnight soon. We have two TTTM hammocks and the one I use the most often is actually a 1 piece hammock, its the single person variant which does not have sewn in colors. It is pretty comfortable, but the absense of a bugnet make it a bit useless during the night over here. Thanks again! Keep making those awesome videos.

I love the Black Bird with it's shelf to store gear. It is a great hammock. But if I where you. I would buy either 11ft. netless or the wide 11ft. netless ( with the notty mods and amsteel ridgeline ). Depending on how tall you are. First you start out just kicking back in it. Then take a nap in it. Then sleep over night in your backyard to make sure it is going to work for you. If it dose , then buy the bug net. The wide would cost the most with the bug net and the options for 139.00. I have many hammocks. And that is the one I always want to grab to take on a trip. If I am going to take a nap in the backyard. That is the hammock I am going to take a snooze in.

There’s some “lore” that suggests bugs can bite through a single layer hammock. Has that been your experience? I use the HUG net that just covers the upper torso. But my arms are still against the single layer hammock bottom. The point is, if the “bite through” is true, even with an intergrated net. the critters could bite through a bottom layer. Most of the body is ususally covered - UQ’s and all - but bare arms against hammock fabric is common.

The thickness of the material used on all of my hammocks is 1.6. And that has never been a problem. Not one bite. Thank you for watching cougermeat. I really appreciate it.

I can't find the amsteel option for ridgelines on their website? Did they stop making these out of amsteel?

Sorry I did not get back to you earlier. Just put in the comment section that you want the ridgeline made of amsteel. I am going to call him to ask why he does not have it on his website. He did before. Thank you for watching Ryan.

So what do you think about the netless in Cloud 71?
@AdventureswiththeMarine
@AdventureswiththeMarine 3 жыл бұрын
If you are an ultralight hiker. And your under 200 lbs. ( I am 225 lbs and there was a lot of stretch ) and you are all about keeping that pack weight down. Then you should get it. But if you are not. Get it in Hexon. The Netless is a great hammock. I have the Wide for my height and weight. It is good to hear from you aikirunner.

Hi, I was just wondering about what brown you have regarded to the Wide 11 FT. Netless hammock. Is that the Coyote Brown or Dark Olive?

All of this equipment is great, but in my country same quality cost 1/4 price, and is half the size (hammock 20 USD, bug-net 4 USD, Ridgeline 0,5 USD per 1m, suspension 5 USD)

The Chameleon is a great hammock. But if there is no bugs. For me .The Netless is a little more comfortable, with the notty mods. That is the hammock that I always want to grab when I am heading out on trip.

Don't waste Any money on Any hammock until you have researched the Amok Draumr and listened to life-long hammock owners that are astounded how much better they sleep when not hanging like an old banana. Comfortable, stable, insulated, fully enclosed, multipurpose seating... there's no comparison. Do your research, listen to people that aren't trying to sell you anything, and most importantly... don't ever listen to some yammerhead on youtube that wants to score spare change like they are working an off-ramp somewhere.

Agree. I have a Draumr and love, love, love it! The first time I tried it out, I planned to just lay back for a sec, and then woke up an hr later, hahaha. The Amok brotherhood continues to grow.

@@norsefalconer It wasn't until the second night that I fully understood how to adjust it for "my" perfect sleep. I use the same insulated pad in the Draumr and to sleep on flat surfaces, always nice to have options when there is no place to hang a hammock.

@@brianbassett4379 I agree, options are good to have. The Amok folks posted an update video not long ago, and spoke about a guy on their blog (or forum, not sure which) that does a ground set-up using hiking poles. I'm sure there is a ground sheet used as well. Interesting, but, I went hammock bc I don't like ground sleeping, so not pursuing that one. However, I am contemplating getting a suspension pole system from Tensa for no tree, and no tree strapping allowed, situations.

@@norsefalconer With a good pad you can be just as comfortable laying on a hard surface... the ground or even a picnic table. I think most people try to over inflate their air mattresses and thin light-weight tubular cell pads aren't that great. I bike tour and love to have back-ups and options for all aspects of camping and riding. - bike pics: prior to Oct 2019 photos.google.com/share/AF1QipN67sUw0ykU-Mg5gLsOw9vF8kBMEM5cGCgCNmLT_j72h9iu5fKYFFVbLJ2Z415Umw?key=LUZqdEl1d3RjNV9id0ZvTEFickhITnBwWFZrU3hR

@@brianbassett4379 Wow! THAT is a super nice rig! You obviously put in a lot of time, thought (and $) to get it right. I especially like the trailer with the "roof rack," SWEET! The best part is that you use it. I'm not that motivated, so I motorcycle camp, hahaha. I do need to take more pictures though. Thanks for sharing yours! Anyway... Yeah, no, I have a super nice pad (Exped Megamat), and I'm certain it'd be comfy just about anywhere. I've just found that I don't like the vulnerability of being on the ground, in, or out, of a tent or tarp. Sure, it's largely unfounded, but we're all a little broken in some manner. Hammocks were my answer. I'm thankful, because I love being out in nature. Hardly anything more refreshing for my soul than a crisp woodland morning.
