What's the best Harley Davidson for your first Harley? A lot of people say the Sportster. I do agree but if your 400lbs that won't work. I think the truth is you gotta sit on that bike and feel it!!

My father was an owner and mechanic of a Harley Dealership in Canada! He was one of the best Haley mechanics in North America at the time. He was also Canadian Champ in Dirt Track racing , ride BSA and the XR750 and he loves the Sportster, he’s 5’6” and weighed 150lbs back in the day. You are right about getting the right size for your own body size.

So I’ve been riding since 1968 and it went like this; Yamaha 175 Enduro 350 Honda, 450 Honda, 500 Honda four-cylinder, Honda CB 650, Harley Sportster, Harley Superglide, and now at the ripe old age of 70 I’m on a highly modded Indian scout. I finally picked up my dream bike a few weeks ago, its the EXACT build I wanted. 2007 Softail Heritage with dual fishtails, ape hangers, bags, and every piece of chrome imaginable. Won't need to dump money on aesthetics, just maintenance. Took me 3 years to get there, started off on a Suzuki 650 for two years then got a 1200 Sportster for a year as my first Harley. That thing was beat the f up when I got it and traded it in for the Softail. I followed your advice without even knowing it, it did take me a week to get used to it but now im good. Great video for anyone considering a Harley.

I just watched your Sose The Ghost video about being the new guy in a MC and I really appreciate that you said not to put other people down about what kind of bike they ride or like. I'd like to hear you talk about why people or certain MCs will put people down if they don't ride a Harley Davidson. I don't make a lot of money and I got a family to take care of, and I have to be careful about how I spend my money, I'm brand new to motorcycles and I bought an 82 Honda CB900C for $1200 which is a cruiser style bike with a 4 cylinder engine. I'm a big dude at 6'5 and 270 pounds and that Honda fits me perfectly and I love riding, but when I want to talk to people I work with that ride, they only want to jab at me because it's not a Harley and that sucks.

After I got married and had my first daughter, I gave up riding, and now, sixteen years later I got back into riding, got 89 softail custom and just recently got 21 ultra limited for long distance rides. That 89, is the one I love the most, them older bikes have a personality that newer ones don't. Stay safe out there, God bless!

I now ride a 2021 Road King Special and love it. I definitely think it was better starting on a smaller bike before picking up the heavier road king so I could learn how to handle it better and build my confidence up. It’s all about what makes you feel comfortable.

My first bike was a 1997 Suzuki TL1000S, I wrecked in '13. Last year I bought a 97 Honda Valkyrie. Wifey wanted no more sport bikes. Just 2 weeks ago Bought a 2012 HD Ultra Classic. After being on a few rides with coworkers who have Touring bikes, I realized that I wanted hard bags, fairing, music capabilities and cruise control for those loger trips, I bought my Ultra. I also couldn't pass up the price for bike. I paid 8500, it had 29k on the odometer. I've put 500+ miles on her, and am getting more and more comfortable with every ride. I am really enjoying this bike.

I still own that bagger. She doesn't have enough power to get out of her own way but nostalgia keeps her around. Great advice. I started on a Fat Boy because I was too short for the sportster and I liked the curves. Lowered it to help me park but I road it well. The only thing missing was music and cargo. So I moved to a lowered Street Glide and road those for +14 years. Circumstances being what they were, near the end, I had to part ways. In a better position, I wanted to get another Street Glide but, then (unrelated) I got hurt. During my recovery years later, I purchased and tried to get back on a Street Glide but it wasn't happening. I just couldn't hold it up anymore in my current condition. I was devastated. My desire and short sightedness led me to the wrong decision. Upon going to the dealership to try and figure our what to do, my current Tri Glide had just been off loaded from the truck and was still in the crate. It spoke to me, met all my requirements, allowed me to get back on the road and I fell in love with it. It's why I created just a few videos to share my experiences and hopefully help other disabled riders get back to riding. I will always have a desire and passion for 2 wheels but for now, I'm out there doing what I love.

Thanks to the weight, and the fact that my upgrades are pushing about 110ish hp I'm able to keep up with members I ride with and our local clubs when we do rides together. My favorite subject! Advice I was given but didn’t listen to was buy a used metric if you’re learning. It’ll save a lot of money while you learn what’s right for you or if riding isn’t. I don’t know but doubt using a metric as a starter is an option in an outlaw club. And I think you’re the first person I’ve seen point out if you can afford it, you’ll save a lot buying the options you want rather than doing it later. My first was a new Honda shadow 650. 6 months later I ate the cost and bought a 1600 Kawasaki

I bought a 117 low rider S 2023. Love that bike. My first Harley I bought. I can take it on the highway for long distances and take in the country roads and let it rip through twists and turns. I am 5’10 and 250lbs. Great for me

I have a 2018 Iron 1200 and a 2022 Heritage Classic. I'm 70 and have been riding for over 50 years. I traded in a 2017 Street Glide for my Heritage. My second bike was a brand new 1977 sportster right off the show room floor. I went through 3 starters in first year on this bike.

I first saw the 883 iron. Blacked out. Looked small n wimpy. I got excited at first sight. First Harley. Bought it used, lookin so close to what i wanted. Got her home and started wrenchin. I tell ya, this has been such a fun project for me! Soooo many custom parts. In 2 months, that bike looks NOTHING like it did from the shop! Fork extensions, 10"bars, drag pipes, stage 1 intake, lowering kit, tank lift, coil relocation, bobber rear fender. All in my front yard. Just got it home from the shop with a 1200 bore kit, cams, tuner and performance clutch. Total spent including the original purchase of the bike, just over $10000. Worth every penny! Excellent video sose! #Ghostin on Maui 💪😈

My firt bike was a ts100 enduro when i was 12. Currently riding a softail blackline. I like the stripped down, no fairings, no frills, chopper looking bike. Similar to a softail slim, just without fat tires.

My first bike was an '05 Softail Standard that I converted into a trike on my own so I could get in the wind despite being born with one leg. The bike I ride now is a '97 California Motorcycle Company "Rocket" that I was able to use the axle and swingarm from the Softail to make a trike once again. I really enjoyed riding the Softail but I love the Rocket, it's a badass machine.

This brings back some memories; 1st bike was a sportster 1200. It was what was affordable at the time, broke my heart initially but change out the bars & foot controls & she's all good. Still have it along with a night train.

Started on an 07’ Suzuki boulevard c90 at 16 years old. At 20, gave the bike back to my dad and started riding an 06’ Kawasaki Vulcan 900. Just bought my first Harley at 29, it’s a 2023 heritage softail 114. Loved the torque of the boulevard, but I loved the lean angle of the Vulcan more. I could really throw that bike around. Only downfall to my heritage softail is the lower lean angle. In a way I think of it as a reason to smarten up a little, haha. Almost went with the low rider ST, but the heritage softail is my dream bike. Has been since I was 20 years old, my first trip to Sturgis bike week and test rode one.

I learned to ride on a little Suzuki Katana about 18 years ago. My first bike was a Honda VTX 1800. Second bike was a 2005 Hayabusa, which I still have. My current love is a 2013 Custom Fat Boy Lo, blacked out, with air ride suspension. I'm looking forward to adding my personal touches to it, which won't be much. My husband has a 2010 Electra Glide and we love getting out on the road.

Really enjoyed the video and I'm a prime candidate to comment. I just bought my first Harley yesterday after 50 years of riding Hondas. My last Honda was a 1996 Magna and I honestly loved the bike but it was having more and more problems. It left me stranded at a gas station Sunday morning and that was the last straw. I'd been thinking about finally getting a Harley for awhile. I'd even sat on a couple and immediately knew they weren't right for me. I'm 5-10 and around 145 lbs. and 76 years old, so I was looking for something smaller and lighter. I pulled up a 2013 Sportster XL1200 Custom at a dealership and it felt perfect. Not too big, not too heavy, great lines, a 4.5 gallon gas tank. The clutch and brake levers were perfect, the seat was even comfortable. My first real ride where I wasn't stuck in stop and go traffic was this morning and I thoroughly enjoyed it. No buyer's remorse for this guy. It will rattle your teeth sitting at a red light, but that smooths out and disappears when you get up a little speed. It's a great ride at 65 mph. The smaller size and weight make it nimble in the corners and the handling overall is beginner-easy. I think I got the right first Harley for my size and strength, which is not even close to what it was even 20 years ago, and I'm really comfortable with every aspect of this bike. Would definitely recommend the Sportster XL1200 for riders about my size and previous experience on metric cycles.

That head turn is real. I've saved many turns when I was starting by just adjusting where I was looking. Body follows and you can make it through the turn. Just upgraded to a 2015 Road King 103, from an 07 Dyna Wide Glide. still love both.. paid 13,500 but she was a garage princess before I got her, only 2300 on it when I picked her up. Already stage 1 and tuned with a full Rinehart exhaust and SE intake with stage 1 tune. Bars are a little wider than I like looking to get some 16 inch narrow apes eventually

My first bike was a Virgo. My first Harley was my 84FXRT that I got from my brother in law. It's the only Harley my nephew ever rode before he passed in his wreck. But when I was riding with my wife I rode my Honda Shadow so it was lighter and easier for me to be able to handle. Especially with my back problems.

My first Harley was a Street Bob I road it for a year. I got comfortable riding it then went to a few Demo days and rode quite a few different bikes. I found that was a really good way to figure out what I was most comfortable with. I wanted something bigger to do longer rides on. I liked the Rode King but fell in love with the Heritage Classic. So I traded in the Street Bob and got the Heritage. It is damn close to where I want it to be so all I am really going to do to it is a stage 3 for now.

My first HD (and second bike total) was an 883 Sportster. Great first bike as I was 5’9”, 155 at the time. Now I have a 2013 Electra Glide. I knew my next bike had to have cruise, a stereo and storage for stuff. Going to the grocery store, I can put quite a bit in my hard bags and trunk. I’d say any interstate/freeway driving you want a 1200cc engine or more. Same if you are going to be in an MC, whether 1%’er or a regular club.
