Plot twist, parrots have known what they are saying for years and have just been playing dumb to poke fun at humans. Kiko gets on the ship and starts talking normal as soon as the earthlings are out of sight.

There's a series of books, The Garrett P.I. series, and the main character gets given a parrot as a joke from his best friend. The parrot, Mr. Big, aka the Goddamn Parrot, swears and also pretends to be small kidnapped child who says things al9ng the lines of "Please mister, don't hurt me! I wanna go home!"

There was some story I wish I could find where humans were uplifting a lot of species as some project. At a council review of it the scientist admitted they discovered cats were already sapient. The Egyptian ambassador just smiled mysteriously.
