Maybe next time you have to use a wag bag take an odor proof sack to store it in, just make sure to label it as the poop sack so you never put food in it, at least not before you're done with it lol

Been there last summer and it is such an incredible area. I'll never forget that hike or the Escalante region in general. Unfortunately I can't go there more often since it's a little bit far away from Europe :-( Try Little death hollow when you are in the area next time. Happy hiking

One hack I saw was putting their poop bags inside an old contigo or nalgene water bottle so that the stink does not escape. Haven’t tried it myself though. *Thanks Justin for bringing us to a different environment. Watching your videos made me feel like I went out there with you.

Absolutely LOVE my windmaster! I'd highly recommend, to get the triflex stand for it! It is just as stable, WAY less bulky to store, and saves you 20 grams! Btw, with the text on the thumbnail I first thought this would be a top-list kinda video, maybe that would be an idea though? Your top 10 bucket list trails to hike in the world, talk about them to some stock or creative commons footage and google earth or alltrails-3d-map footage!

The wag bag situation is exactly why I haven’t planned this route, or any other similar ones that require a wag bag. I think I’d puke all over myself on day 1 and the trip would be over 😂

Nah! It’s really not bad at all. The ReStop bags are the best, and keep everything safely contained. I’ve had dozens and dozens of used wag bags in my pack over the years. Never had one leak.
@JustinOutdoors

I think I need to do a video on wag bags. It's actually not bad at all! I picked up a few tricks to make smell a non-issue (like twisting up the inner bag before tucking it into the outer bag). There are chemicals in the bag you poop into as well that help solidify and deodorize the poop. No smell in or around my pack at all. Pooping into the bag is actually a fairly pleasant experience.

I would have brought a Sea to Summit Watercell for sure. Much easier than packing a 4L jug for water carries. A warmer sleeping pad as well. The Q-Core Deluxe is comfy but the 2022 Tensor would have been a lot warmer. Might have brought my camp slippers too!

would one of those odor proof bags help to keep the smell at bay from the wag bags? This looks like an absolutely stunning trail, but I think the smell would get to me. I have hyperosmia and I smell things that most other people can't, so obvious smells are that much enhanced!

Unfortunately, the whiff of poop is standard for wag bags. I use them offroading and there's always a hint of the smell no matter how good of bag you use, how well you seal them and even if you double bag.

Sorry that wag bag situation there just sounds ridiculous. Its not like that place is overcrowded like Mt. Whitney or some place like that.
@JustinOutdoors
@JustinOutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
There are a few really good reasons for it in areas like this :) 1) Less microbial action in the soil to deal with the poop. 2) Because you're in a canyon, it's difficult or impossible to get an appropriate distance from water to poop, so your poop will contaminate water sources - that you're then drinking out of. 3) Because you're in a canyon, there isn't a lot of space. So you'd have poopagedon at every popular campsite.
@WasatchWill
@WasatchWill 2 жыл бұрын
Oh, it gets pretty crowded. Especially in spring and fall. I took a trip through there 13 years ago before social media made it what it is today. BLM used to have a couple composting pit toilets down in there and they were wonderful. Literally smelt like fresh pine inside because of the shavings used. Some scouts playing with fire burned one down and the other probably couldn't keep up with the growing crowds and has probably since been removed. Thus the WagBags now.
