Well, it just keeps on getting better! A recent "grail" find has motivated me to start a new Series called "Best In Class: The Iconic Albums". Today, a close look at Dylan's '66 Masterpiece, Blonde On Blonde, with some historical insights and info on two of my favorite pressings.

Great channel and I too just found an original mono pressing at a local flea market yesterday. Cool Pete Townshend poster in the background!😮

Blonde on Blonde is the album I own the most of. First Canadian Mono (VG+), First US Mono (VG but plays perfectly clean somehow), First Canadian Stereo (NM), late 60's Canadian Stereo (NM), First US Stereo (NM), MOFI

Enjoyed the vid and great find on Bob’s BOB. Please attach a link to the great Nashville sessions doc on KZfaq for your viewers Tim. Great interviews with Bob Johnson, the musicians you mentioned and even the late great Charlie Daniels. Thanks

Beautiful find mate! How is it that you keep coming across these pristine OG's...? I'm honestly starting to get seriously jealous here. I really *love* learning about the history and backgrounds of these albums and the artists (University indeed! 😁) And, FWIW GREAT handling of the LP! 👍 BTW, I saw the Mutations album behind you, now I hafta go look and see if I have that one, I can't remember...

Tim, so amazing to see an OG pressing of that vintage to be in such wonderful condition. I have the MoFi release and it sounds superb. Am amazed that your OG is up there on the same level. Really enjoy your videos..great stuff. Cheers, Steve

Great video on my of my favourite albums! My first copy was the 80s reissue that was available when I started listening to Bob. Gradually I found an early US stereo and then a UK stereo, which I decided I also needed. Then a Sundazed mono reissue, then an early Canadian mono. And the 2003 CD/SACD you mentioned. I traded in the 80s pressing so I'm down to four copies on vinyl! I also don't have a preference between the mono and stereo. They're very different and I love each one for the difference. I like to hear the separation and detail on the stereo, and I also like the punch and energy of the mono. Same story for Highway 61 and Bringing It All Back Home. I have stereo and mono, and also bought Dutch and UK pressings when I found them, so between the three albums I have ten copies. A few oddities: the Dutch Bringing It All Back Home has the same cover photo but it's titled Subterranean Homesick Blues, and my UK tracklist says "Stuck Inside of Mobile With Thee." Thee with two e's. I've seen some for sale online that have the same typo/mistake.

Just another absolutely priceless segment. I assume during the period of Mono Stereo wasn’t available? I have to check my copy especially with the inside cover. Although you blow me away with your NM finds it doesn’t surprise me. It takes in my opinion putting the time in and having access to some good record shops. A perfect example JT’s Record Room Channel. Okay is there room for the King Elvis Presley Lol do you like Elvis Music? I listen to the Elvis Channel continuously on XM radio. Still a few days from unboxing all my gear in storage and dropping the needle in my renovated room. Thank You

I really like the history and the detail in your video. I have yet to become a Bob Dylan fan. But, at the same time, and being born in 1967, I haven't really ever listened to a lot of Bob Dylan. I definitely like some of his songs that I've heard others perform. So I definitely don't want to say that I do not like him, or more specifically his music, and I'm starting to get my curiosity peaked a little bit. I'm wondering why I really haven't heard a lot more Dylan through the years? Maybe it's time I start finding a few LPs and see if it catches on? I really do enjoy the story and detail in the story that you presented. I like the history of music and artists in music. And even if I don't wind up being a Bob Dylan fan in the long run, I still enjoy hearing the stories and learning about the history. I'm sure I'll find some music he's done that I will like as well. I can't afford to like him too much right now though haha :-) Brian in Fort Worth 🎶

Hi Brian, thanks for commenting. Many people find their way into Dylan with Blood On The Tracks, his 74 masterpiece. You might also try Freewheelin’ or Slow Train Coming. The exploration is worth it ✌🏻👍🏻

@@Universityofvinyl Thank you for the recommendations. I have noticed through life that even though I always like and love my staples I grew up listening to, I really have expanded my interests and oftentimes it's by going back and listening to something that I just didn't pay attention to earlier in life. That's one thing I love about the vinyl community. It seems to expand a person's listening passion. It seems like it has a way of getting you into music you didn't really listen to earlier or maybe even know about sometimes. I always love finding something older that is new to me. Thanks again! Do you have the original mono recordings box from 2010? It was AAA sourced, and really well done. I found the Blonde on Blonde in that set to be pretty indistinguishable from my original US mono. Beautiful set, well worth it.

Great idea Tim!! Looking forward to the new series. Hoping you will include some Steely Dan...hint... hint. I wanted to ask your opinion of the Humming Guru. I simply can't afford the high end ultra sonic cleaners, but might be able to justify the cost of the Humming Guru. Do you feel it is worthwhile for the average aspiring audiophile? Many thanks for your thoughts, really enjoy your channel, best regards, Bob Ratliff.

@@Universityofvinyl Thanks so much for the tip regarding The Turntable Lab. I signed up for a back in stock notification and recently got a reply. Placed my order yesterday, can't wait to put it through it's paces. The bulk of my collection hasn't been played since the 70's, I'm sure they will need a good cleaning. I finally got my Rega Planar 6 with the Ania MC cartridge up and running, decided to go with the Rega Fono MC pre-amp as well for continuity. Have only listened to a couple of lp's that were ultrasonically cleaned from The In Groove....sounds really good to my ears. Still need to tweak and fine tune things I'm sure, but after 40+ years I'm listening to vinyl again!! Due in no small part to you and other youtuber's in the VC. All the best, Bob Ratliff.

Thanks for the videos! I think the original pressings were so well made that even less than perfect condition copies will sound brilliant. I have early mono pressings of the US Blonde on Blonde and the sound is, as you say, incredible. The early stereo vinyl pressings are also great. For CD, the 2003 stereo mix you have is also incredible. I haven't heard a better version of either and I personally prefer looking for decent early pressings rather than buying multiple $100-150 box sets. My UK Revolver cost £35 on eBay - it's super clean and sounds brilliant. Alright, I got lucky but it is possible to get really nice copies of the early pressings.. At this point in time, my preference is not to buy MoFi pressings any more. A $100 LP has to be pretty special and all analogue used to be a justification for that but I'm not spending that sort of money on what is essentially a glorified digital pressing.
