Obviously you need to check out all of Christopher Guest's movies. You should enjoy "A Mighty Wind" as it is exactly this movie but with Folk music instead of Dog Show. There is a ton of music in that one that you should enjoy. All of it is genuinely played by the actors. The soundtrack is one to purchase, as well. I thought you had seen "This is Spinal Tap" already but maybe not. These all have a lot of the same actors in them. They work perfectly together.

Jen!!! Yes!!! We all suggested this to you after you watched "This Is Spinal Tap"! The main Spinal Tap guys - Christopher Guest and Michael McKEan - they're in this! (and Guest directs it). Christopher Guest has a bunch of "mockumentaries": "A Mighty Wind" also has Levy and O'Hara, as well as the three Spinal Tap guys (and Parker Posie). Then there's "Waiting For Guffman" and "For Your Consideration". All of these are improvised mockumentaries all in the "This Is Spinal Tap" style. PS: Catherine and Eugene got their start on the legendary Canadian TV show "SCTV" in the 70s, along with John Candy, Martin Short, Harold Ramis, Joe Flahtery, Andrea Martin, Rick Moranis, etc etc). You should watch those old SCTVs, they are B-R-I-L-L-I-A-N-T!!!!

One of my favorite little "real" moments in this is that as soon as it's clear that Jerry will have to show Winky, the other dog's handlers make sure that he knows what to do. I didn't expect that, but it made perfect sense when they did it.

Funny, but not much of a dog person myself. I have more of affinity for cats. Fun Fact: Fred Willard (Buck Laughlin) was specifically instructed by Christopher Guest to not do any research on dogs. Jim Piddock (Trevor Beckwith), on the other hand, had to do a lot of dog research so that his character would appear knowledgeable. As a result, Guest says some viewers are surprised to learn Piddock is not a real dog show judge. Not Scripted Fact: Much of the film was improvised. The narrative outline was only 16 pages long. Tapped Out Fact: When the manager of the hotel (Ed Begley Jr.) is showing the various cleaning products he mentions a rock band trashing their room and roasting a goat. The rock band is of course the one from This Is Spinal Tap (1984), which featured many of the same actors as this film.

If you don't realize that Christopher Guest (Hound Dog Owner/real-life husband of Jamie Lee Curtis) movies are loosely scripted IMPROV, you don't get the genius of it. Rob Reiner directed, "This Is Spinal Tap" is the 1st of his improv comedy classics that I can't recommend enough! ✌😎❤

Most people consider _Best in Show_ to be the best of Christopher Guest's mockumentaries, but all of them are funny, and which one tickles you the most depends on one's experience with the material being parodied. Working with highly experienced improvisational actors the dialogue in the films could be entirely improvised. _Waiting for Guffman_ parodies small-town community theater. _A Mighty Wind_ parodies modern folk singers. _For Your Consideration_ parodies how actors can come to believe their own PR hype. _Mascots_ parodies professional sports mascots.

You know Catherine O'hara and Eugene Levy from Schitt's Creek. But they both cut their teeth as improvisational performers in the Chicago and Toronto Second City comedy clubs. And that is the same legendary proving ground that produced an enormous number of talented comedians including most of the original cast members of SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE (you know, back when it was actually funny). But O'hara and Levy are far more famous as regulars on the '80s TV show that brought them to stardom. It is another Canadian product called SCTV (short for SECOND CITY TV). And what a cast. Besides those two it also introduced the world to Rick Moranis, Dave Thomas, John Candy, Joe Flaherty, Martin Short, Andrea Martin and Harold Ramis and it is well worth your time to find it somewhere and binge watch. They didn't make a lot of episodes but those they made are hilarious. The late great Fred Willard is another Second City alum. And he too came to fame in a hilarious '80s comedy show that is also well worth binging called FERNWOOD TONIGHT. It is a spoof of late night talk shows starring Martin Mull as the sleazy host and Willard as his dimwitted Ed McMann-like side kick, Jerry Hubbard. They have a loose framework of a script but Willard just basically improvises every one of his lines and Mull plays off of it and it is absolutely brilliant. My favorite episode is the one where Vincent Price comes on as one of their guests. The repartee between him and Willard is fabulous.

Welcome back, Jen! Thanks for another great reaction video! 😁 Best In Show was directed by Christopher Guest, whom you might have seen as the six-fingered man in The Princess Bride, but he also played guitarist Nigel Tufnel in Rob Reiner's 1984 comedic rock mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap. Best In Show is basically a continuation of Christopher Guest's mockumentary series which also includes Waiting for Guffman, A Mighty Wind, For Your Consideration, and Mascots.

They're given instructions on how the scene needs to (roughly) end... but whatever they do or say to GET to that point it is almost 100% improv. He was heavily influenced by his work on Rob Reiner's film "This is Spinal Tap" and brought many of those performers back for his film, "Waiting for Guffman" (a film I actually had to pleasure of working on) ... "Best in Show" ... "A Mighty Wind" ... "For Your Consideration" and "Mascots"

Yes!! Love this series of films, done by Christopher Guest .. such a great chameleon of an actor. You can barely recognize him role to role .. very much inspired by his work in This is Spinal Tap as directed by Rob Reiner .. they come up with a basic framework idea and structure and from there it’s largely improvised scene to scene by all the marvelously talented actors. Many of which are in each and every of these films. The remaining of which are Waiting for Guffman, A Mighty Wind, For Your Consideration, and Mascots. The last of which came after quite a gap in time, and is the only film of the bunch that does not include Eugene Levy .. though familiar faces do show up from the other films .. great to have you back Jen, and looking forward to your return to the Buffyverse!! ❤️

Nice. Now let me recommend some real documentaries that are also real funny. King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, about people who try to set world records on 80s arcade games. Hands on a Hardbody, about a radio contest in rural Texas on winning a pickup truck. Slasher, about a car salesman who specializes in "slasher" sales. And last but not least Anvil! The story of Anvil, about a beloved but obscure 80s metal band, trying to still make it in the modern day.

While it isn’t as classic as This Is Spinal Tap, Best In Show in my opinion funnier on multiple rewatches.

Wow, you've done a lot of movies other reactors are ignoring. I think that's great. Here's some I think are also being ignored by reactors, but are great reaction movies. Most have no reactions, a few have 1 or 2 reactions: Next (Nicholas Cage sci-fi) Limitless (Bradley Cooper sci-fi) Source Code (Jake Gyllenhall sci-fi) Frailty (Bill Paxton / Matthew MdcConaghey thriller) 13th warrior (Antonio Banderas action period piece) Push (Chris Evans / Dakota Fanning sci-fi) Crank (Jason Statham action) The Black Hole (cult classic Disney horror sci-fi) Dreamscape (Dennis Quaid sci-fi) Blast from the Past (Brendon Fraser, Alicia Silverstone, Christopher Walken comedy) Guns Akimbo (Daniel Radcliffe action) Year One (Jack Black, Michael Cera comedy) Land of the Lost (Will Ferrell, Danny McBride comedy) Rustler's Rhapsody (Tom Berenger comedy western) Real Men (James Belushi, John Ritter comedy thriller) Human Nature (surreal Charlie Kaufman comedic drama starring Tim Robbins, Patricia Arquette) Mr. Destiny (James Belushi fantasy comedy) Silent Movie (Mel Brooks comedy) Cheap Detective (Neil Simon ensemble comedy) Three O'Clock High (underrated high school comedy)

I would be interested in hearing Catherine O'Hara sing well. She's always singing badly on purpose for comedic effect. And yet her sister Mary Margaret is a professional vocalist.

If you've ever seen The Nightmare Before Christmas, Catherine O'Hara is the speaking and singing voice of Sally. She also sings on Schitt's Creek in a scene that isn't meant to be funny- when she sings "Baby I'm Yours" to Alexis.
