Asian color makeup usually tends towards the softer pigments, and more natural colors. For mascara, the Japanese ones are designed for small, mono lid/hooded eyes with short, straight lashes. One reason why they’re super waterproof.

i switched to using japanese mascara a few years ago and have tried a few and omg they are so much better than american ones! they look fantastic and feel nice as well!

I believe the added spf is for highlight effect in photos. Beyoncé’s makeup artist used spf for that effect for an event that was held at night.
