Let me give a commwntnof appreciation. Actually there are 2 types of animals innthe animal world. The armed with claws and superior power and those without. The species wirh claws and strenght do fight as a last resort. I mean a death fight. Because the winner (bears, wolves, even cats) will most likely die as well from the fight wounds. So they test as well at mating rituals or dominance the strengths more mildly. I understand karate , mma, systema, jiu Jitsu and other arts as claws and sharp teeth. So therefore a win for points for me is better than to see a knock out. These guys are all great, why risk their lives or health, if they do not have to. Therefore a cage fight, bare knuckles, full contact is for me less understanding. I loved it, when being young, now I understand how precious life and health of every being is. So less knock outs are better always karate for me. Wish You all health, happiness and long life

When you're lunging and using YOUR BODYWEIGHT to throw your attack and someone counters using your WEIGHT against you the damage is doubled. That reaction is normal and IF you've ever taken a punch-a strong one, you will be dazed. The thing here is that some of them use too much power. You're not there to knock people out, you're there to score strikes with crisp technique utilizing speed and accuracy.

I like the traditional way of karate more than this. Unfortunately my old sensei, who was totally into the traditional style, had a stroke in 2012. The following Sensei used to drift in the direction of sports-karate, that is why I left his dojo finally after 6 more years in 2018.… I really miss it, but there is no dojo around that doesn't teach sports-karate. I think that Karate shouldn't be about collecting points and winning a staged fight while jumping around like I don't know… Nevertheless, the speed and precision is pretty impressing.

@@Chavdar25 In the very first fight in this video the guy who attacked first "in a strait line" end up in the ground knocked out. But I understand what you are trying to say. Karate tournaments of this kind seems very limited, and I agree with you, they are. I can entertain myself mildly watching these tournaments, mostly because I used to compete in them in the 90's but at the same time I cant say that these kind of tournaments englobe all or at least most of karate techniques. Some could say without being wrong that in this ruleset 75% of Karate techniques was left out or abandoned for strikes that cover a lot of space in a short amount of time, thus lots of strait punches and kicks.

The reason why a Karate punch is so devastating when it is applied correctly is because the punch originates from the hips with the hips as the primary fulcrum which in turn gives the arm maximum power. The punch as you can observe is also travels straight which is the most efficient path to the target without wasting any energy which means all that energy is transferred when the fist impacts the target. I use to practice Karate when I was young. I regret stopping for the reason that I got bored with it, because there where not so much techniques and as a young boy, I wanted to learn Hollywood style fighting, hehe.

One thing that would really help with some of these athletes is more neck exercises. There's a set of nerves in the neck called the brachial plexus and if you turn your neck rapidly or directly impact it it puts strain on this cluster of nerves. Regardless of how much of "jaw" you have the overload of these nerves causes interference with your body resulting in a knockout that has nothing to do with concussions. Chin tucking helps to a certain extent but can be often unreliable when using certain techniques.

For they should forbid punching to the head . A reverse punch hardened by makiwara with years of practiced is a killer. I witness reverse punch on the ribs break one floating ribs. @@arnoldestipona2244 I disagree. There are many strikes they can cause bodily harm. And in terms of comparing CTE cases between sports. Something like football has far more cases than combat sports. @@mykulpierce most karate dojo today no longer uses makiwara and timber to toughen and strengthen hand in punching. It makes your hand gripping strenght and muscles very strong . Karate is different ;the tough training, strengthening and hard practice makes it deadly . Our blackbelts practiced hard to make punches and kicks on hard woods and rubber tires . I see their speed and power is deadly . They break tiles and wood planks . You see their hands are callous and very strong. Head trauma is real and concussion cause lasting but hidden injury. @@dragostoma9033 wtf is not karate, is a set of rules under karatekas of different styles can compete in a sportsman way. Contrary to a Boxe match, where it can represent almost the entirely of boxe techniques in a karate match almost all techniques are forbidden to use. There are throws, arm locks, kicks to the leg and groin, eye pokes, etc... that is part of karate but can be used in a tournament, that is basic allows swipes, jabs, cross punches and 2 or 3 kicks. But, yeah, wtf is pretty crappy for "real" fight. It was made literally for kids to burn steam without loose a teeth and broke their hands.

people need to understand the reason why those fighters are reacting in such a way after being hit. when you're lunging for your strike and the opponent is doing the same the person that's being hit will have his/her momentum used against them. this will make the damage from the opponent's strike many folds more powerful. this is contact combative sports. they GET HIT in the face whenever they're doing that. they're not new to taking hits. a perfect analogy to this type of karate competition is jousting. two knights riding on a horse towards each other and they hit each other off with their wooden javelin. don't underestimate the momentum of a lunge punch and the power it creates. you're literally using your weight to add onto the damage. this is the reason why they're dazed and shocked from those punches. then again some of them probably did came from dojos where they don't use too much power in their strikes and fighting against different people who did made them wake up. that can often be the case too..but what you saw were olympic fights too and they certainly know what they're doing. they didn't get there by playing patty cake.

2 things. 1. This does work, WKF is the same karate league that Lyoto Machida competed in, has students in and its Shotokan which is his same style that used to dominate UFC for quite a long time. 2. These aren’t knock outs. WKF goes off a point system. If it’s a clear cut point you go back when the ref has you set up again, punches are worth 1 point. Kicks to body are 2. Kicks to head are 3. Any sweep/takedown then clean hit on the opponent on the ground is worth 3 points as well. 7 points is the winner or whoever leads until time is up. If it’s tied it the winner is whoever scored first or in some occasions it can be a judges decision.
