There are an infinite amount of knives, blades and tools you can use to cut leather. These are some of the tools I use on a regular basis in our workflow including the 4 ton clicker press from Weaver leather.

As a lefthanded leather worker I understand the frustration of using tools made for right handed people. From holsters to horn wraps I always have to remind myself "right handed right handed"

Parker, put a piece of Suede under the wood sheet and poundo board. It will keep them from moving. Richard

Hi! You can try using a trimmed sheet of shelf liner between the cutting board and board to keep it from moving or use a few lines of glue from a hot glue gun to create friction to hold the blocks in place.

On the low height dies, raise the work bed by adding steel plates to the base. It will raise the leather to a better place as if you were using 1.5" dies.

The cool thing about replaceable blade knives is that one can replace the blades. But they are faster to sharpen. One of the tricks with head knives is you touch them up every time you start to hear the knife as it is cutting leather. They are in that category of cutting tools like scythes and razors where they get touched up constantly because you can only get an edge that sharp in a steel that dulls quickly. Particularly scythes and some traditional razors, they need to be soft enough o draw out the edge to a foil. And the pros who use utility knives do the same thing. In veg tan, you can be sharpening every few cuts, but you only have to brush the blade a few times each time you sharpen it. And most utility knife blades are soft enough to be very easy to sharpen.

Put large globs of blue poster tac on the corners, and center of the block of wood. Then place the cutting mat back. Use the press to push the poster tac down, and it shouldn't move. also its not permanent in case you need to remove it.

I'm a die maker in Los Angeles area ( Fast Die ). I do have big machines 15 tons and 30 tons ( double ones ) You can glue the cutting pad to the wood, so it doesn't move. Use barge glue.

Hey man I just wanted to let you know that I discovered your products around 6 months ago and felt genuinely felt inspired to start crafting. Today I finally made the decision to invest money into some leather working tools and a few pieces of leather. Im sure you don't remember me, but I actually sent you an email awhile ago asking about a one off leather holster. I plan to start by making a leather key fob followed by a dog collar for my German Shepard and eventually move into more complex projects. Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks for the inspiration and hopefully the start of a life long hobby!

I have the mighty wonder too! it's a game changer! I had the same problem you had with the dies being to "short" and had to put a piece of MDF underneath it to give the plate some height...using some double-sided tape helps to keep that sucker from spinning like you showed. =)

Hey there buddy. Not sure if the cut mat movement is still an issue for you but generally, at least in the culinary world, if you just put a couple wet paper towels between your boards you might be able to eliminate that movement.

Hey S and B I have been inspired by your work. I’ve been doing leatherwork as a hobby for about 10 years now. It was funny hearing the Sonic guy say his name was Merrick because that is my name. I’m from Twin Falls and shop at the same Tandy store you do. Thanks for the entertainment. You do awesome work. Lost River Leather

Hey Parker thanks for sharing your tips and insights and all. I have a question: Does that Mighty Wonder cut through say two layers of 8-9oz contact cemented together? Does it have that capability? Will those cutting dies hold up to that? I'll need to be making a lot of cuts like that and I'm looking for a quick way. Do you think a paper cutter guillotine would work? Please share your thoughts! Thank you!

I badly need the right advice for a 5 inch number cutting press? I want to heat custom made die numbers or maybe heat up material to cut a 1/8 thick thermoplastic. I don't know where to get any of the tools for the best budget savings? want to be a pioneer, but a lot to look into right now.

Thanks. Its on my list. Waiting for the Weaver catalog to arrive. Hey Parker, we have noticed that 3 different USA leather wholesale suppliers have stopped internet ordering for UK companies now and Tandy Leather have just closed one of their 2 Uk stores. So there is only 1 Tandy leather store left here in UK. Its because shipping costs have gone up! Might be TRUMP tariffs as well. So whenever we order anything from the USA, supplier has to get shipping quote. Longer process & more expensive. However, it is still well worth it. Have you noticed this?
