¿What do u think about RAID 0 on gaming for reduce waiting loadtime?
@EnderPrinceLive
@EnderPrinceLive 2 ай бұрын
It’s generally not worth it, it’s barely faster as ram becomes the bottleneck, and if one drive fails you lose all your data so it doubles the chance of data loss.
@JustAGuy85
@JustAGuy85 12 күн бұрын
RAID 0 with SSDs and M.2 NVMEs only increase straight up throughput. It actually increases seek times which is what game loading is all about. A single M.2 NVME will load a game faster than 2x M.2 NVMEs in RAID 0. Same thing with SSDs. HDDs are different because they are so much slower to begin with. RAID 0 HDDs DO load games faster 99% of the time. But, RAM isn't a bottleneck... I mean, RAM (as long as you have two sticks) can read at speeds of at LEAST 50 GB/s. And that's DDR4 RAM. My DDR4 3600 C15 dual rank kit benchmarks at 62GB/s read speeds in AIDA64. Not to mention, a good M.2 NVME drive will come with its own dedicated RAM. My Samsung 970 Evo Plus has 2GB DDR4 on it. NVMEs without their own RAM will sometimes come with software that will allow you to dedicate a portion of your system RAM to the NVME drive, but obviously it's better to just get a quality NVME drive with its own dedicated RAM for cache.

Gaming is not at all 100% sequential reads/ writes. Most are random reads and writes so you will not discern big differences between drives. Any cheap drive will do - even a pcie3 drive on a pcie3 slot would just be ok and would have almost the same random reads/writes with their pcie4 counterparts. A tad faster but insignificant and not discernible. pcie4 and gen4 drives are only important if you move frequently large files daily (video editing and content creation) and you do not do that in gaming. Choose nvme with dram as this increases the life of the drive.

Fair. You really can't tell a difference between a good SSD and a PCI-e 4.0 M.2 NVME drive when it comes to loading games... UNLESS the game incorporates DirectStorage like Forspoken or Forza Motorsport. More and more games will begin to implement this and it only works with NVME drives, not SSD's. Exciting times ahead. Dunno if anyone has played Forspoken, but the load times are like half a second fast traveling across a map with my Samsung 970 Evo Plus (M.2 NVME PCI-e 3.0 x4) I haven't tried Forza Motorsport on an SSD, just the 970 Evo Plus, so I can't say how much of a difference it makes. But on Forspoken, the benchmark tool showcasing DirectStorage shows my M.2 NVME loading 6-7 times faster than my SSDs. Can't wait for more and more games to implement DirectStorage. I have 2 M.2 NVME slots on my motherboard (Asus STRIX B550-F Gaming WiFi II). One is PCI-e 4.0 x4 and the lower one (based on the B550 chipset) is PCI-e 3.0 x4. And I already know which M.2 NVME I'm getting. The Samsung 990 Pro. Samsung is the best in memory... hands down. SSD's, M.2 NVME's or SSD's or memory chips (RAM). Samsung is top tier when it comes to memory. I mean, even when you buy RAM, whether it's Crucial or Kingston or G.Skill or whatever... there's always some models that use Samsung memory chips. Typically there's Samsung and Hynix and that goes for RAM (DDR for your motherboard) and RAM on your GPU. And I can speak from experience that this Samsung 970 Evo Plus is absolutely amazing. It does NOT slow down. Not with me pushing it with transfers over and over from 3x SSD's and not even when it's 80% full. It doesn't even slow down benchmarking it over and over using Samsung Magician so that I can make it hit max speeds. I'm sure it's partly to do with my case, the Arctic P14 (140mm) fans and the good M.2 NVME heatsinks this motherboard comes with. I don't think I've ever seen the hottest temperature measured on it go over 48C. The other two temp sensors never go over 42C lol. It's always blazing fast. It actually goes to show that it's faster than the M.2 NVME PCI-e 3.0 x4 slot. Which, I believe most SSD's are like that, too.. limited by the S-ATA connection, not the drive, itself. Hence the 550 MB/s read and 500 MB/s write speeds they top out at. BUT, I'll just add that Kingston has always made excellent products, as has Sandisk and last, but not least, Crucial. These are the brands I trust. These are the brands that I've NEVER had give a single issue. Western Digital? I dunno, they used to be good, but I have a WD Blue 3TB 5400-5700RPM HDD I bought for storage. It started failing after a year. And Seagate HDD's... ugh. I've had around 7-8 die on me. They're fast, yes, but they are cheaply made. SSD's and M.2 drives are different, though, since there are no moving parts. So, really, you just need to worry about their thermal dissipation. I've never had an SSD fail. It's why I'm going to replace my 3x HDD's (the 3TB WD Blue and I have 2x Seagate 7200.14's in RAID 0 that hit about 360-380 MB/s read speeds) with SSDs because they definitely last longer than HDDs. I plan on getting a 4TB Samsung 990 Pro and then some 2TB-4TB SSDs to replace my HDDs with. You can never have too much space. I have close to 8.5TB of space and like 90% of it is used. I guess that's how it is when you hang on to everything you've ever had since your first PC in 1995 lol. I know, PC Hoarder.

@@mirandabak7597 Yeah. Technically, Gen 3 is fine. TECHNICALLY, a plain old SSD loads games just as fast as M.2 NVME drives UNLESS the game is using DirectStorage. That's the only time it's beneficial to have an M.2 NVME drive to load a game. Forspoken loads 6-7 times faster with an NVME drive than an SSD because DirectStorage only works with M.2 NVME drives.

@@iluminarirockI'll reply as I watch the video. T500: Has DRAM cache (very good), 232-layer cache (very good), very fast, but NEEDS a heatsink. It is one of the fastest Gen4 SSDS in the market. Its performance lowers once its cache fills up. 990 pro: uses Gen4, a good choice, the single fastest (sequential) drive, 8th Gen vnand and custom controller (very good), very high IOPS (very good), high endurance (very good), heatsink is recommended. I don't think you should buy a Samsung SSD. There are better options and Samsungs are considered less reliable. It's also overpriced. SN850X: Very fast, like previous drives. Recommends a heatsink, and it runs cooler. Includes software with advanced features. It was at about this point in the video that I realized this was completely AI generated. I know this because: 1. It repeats several reviews nearly word for word. 2. It claims that the SN850X has colored lighting, which is false. As such, I stopped watching. I recommend looking at the Tom's Hardware SSD rankings. Let me know if you have more questions!

I have a Samsung 970 Evo Plus. The only logical choice for my next SSD is the 990 Pro because it's the fastest of the bunch and my motherboard has great NVME heatsinks already on it. My 970 runs cool as a cucumber. The Samsung 990 Pro has 226GB cache on the 2TB model.... so it's always gonna be blazing fast. The 2TB 970 Evo Plus has 2GB of LPDDR4 3733 RAM on it, too. Not sure what the 990 Pro is sporting, but it's things like this that make the difference between the higher quality models... And the cheaper models with NO onboard RAM that wants you to dedicate your system RAM to the NVME. Plus... Samsung is just the king of memory. It's what you want to find on your RAM (DDR), it's what you hope your GPU memory is, etc. etc. Samsung is top tier when it comes to anything memory.

You know that little piece of paper that comes on every M.2 NVME drive? That is actually a "heatsink" lol. Don't tear it off. But, the faster the drive, the more power it's going to use and the more you're gonna need some form of an actual heatsink. They'll all be fine without a heatsink if you're just talking about loading games and general PC usage. It's when you start transferring files at 7GB/s for a few minutes that the heat will slow them down. PCI-e 4.0 M.2 NVME drives draw a decent amount of power. Besides, any halfway decent motherboard comes with heatsinks already on the M.2 NVME slot. If not, you can just buy one for cheap. I'd say it's definitely a worthwhile investment, man.

Can someone help me? I'm Brazilian and I didn't understand the video well. Which was the best, in order, from first to fifth place? What are the main characteristics of each one? What are the disadvantages of each?

I agree. Had a seagate SSHD from them and not even 3 months in the spinning needle started clicking and lost all my data. Never got their HDD again. But their Firecuda 4TB M.2 SSD has been working like a charm. Hopefully this SSD will restore some faith in Seagate.

Nah, it was a mistake in the firmware that was giving false lifespan readings. They fixed it. It wasn't ACTUALLY going down in lifespan as reported, it was a false reporting.

Crucial and Kingston tend to make good products, but I am with ya... the only one I would get (and the only one I AM getting) is the Samsung 990 Pro. 4TB model. Already have a 2TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus and it's perfect.

@@magisport5198 You do know Adata sells multiple versions of SX8200PRO. Their components differ from each other. There are videos about this. The original one was fast, but then they changed controllers and memory chips so that there are like five different versions, all under same name, so you never know what you get. Also, this channel does not really test anything, but reads marketing material, so I doubt you'll find super knowledgeable responses here.

Kingston has always made great memory products. if I had to choose, I'd go with Kingston because of their LONG time excellent reputation. Western Digital is "okay"... but always slower than their competition and overrated if you ask me. However, I've got a Seagate SSD that's 120GB in my rig from WAYYYY back when they were new and it's still perfectly fine. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them because there are no moving parts. What you have to look for is the random read/write speeds and if they can stay cool enough to keep their speeds up. It's also good to know if they have dedicated LPDDR4 on the memory module, itself, instead of buying one without any and having to use the software which will take your system memory and dedicate it to the NVME. Not a HUGE deal if you have 32GB RAM or more, but if you're on a rig with 8GB RAM, it's a definite no no, and if you have 16GB RAM, you're pushing it as many games will push you passed 16GB RAM usage. Look at BF5 with ray tracing lol... pushes me to an average of 24-25GB total RAM usage on my system and I've peaked at 98% RAM usage (32,000MB... just under my total RAM amount). Which, that's an extreme example, to be fair, but still... with all the games coming out with UE5 with the extremely detailed textures and then when you start adding in ray tracing... yeah, 16GB RAM is no longer enough, let alone enough to share 2GB of it for your NVME cache. That's what I like about my 2TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus. It has its own dedicated 2TB LPDDR4 3733 RAM on the module, itself.
