$1200 is enough for mid range gaming pc build. you don't need more than rtx 4070 super or rx 7900 GRE for 1440p. pair them with r5 7600 , 32 gb ddr5 ram, 1 tb ssd & 650 watt psu. now you have a 1440p beast under $1200.

K, industry mouthpiece. A 3060 12GB is still a solid 1440p GPU and will be for another couple of years. The lower end of Nvidia's current gen lineup is overpriced and under VRAM-ed. I wouldn't buy anything new rn with less than 16GB for 1440p or 20GB for 4k. You can have a 5700X on a midrange board for the same price as a 7600 on a budget board. If you want to be like that one guy who is running a 5800X3D on a B350 board, go with the 'future proofing' option, lol. The only difference between DDR4 at 3200MHz and DDR5 at 6400MHz is the price. Your clock latency is double too, which means actual data bandwidth is the same. And actually, good DDR4 can often slightly outperform mediocre DDR5, just as good DDR3 could outperform mediocre DDR4 several years ago.

@@Lurch-Bot 7600 perfroms much better than 5700x , Even entry level motherboard can handle 7800 x3d such as asrock b650 hdv. I rather spend little to jump & future proof my pc. have 9800x 3d as future upgrade option. lastly 3060 is a 1080p gpu, at 1440p high preset you get less than 60 fps without upscaling in Alan wake 2, Starfeild, Avater with 3060. Atleast Rtx 3070 or Rx 6700 xt level performance is needed for 1440p 60+ fps gaming nowadays. but RTX 4070 /rx 7800 xt/ rx 7900 gre / RTX 4070 super these are true high fps 1440p max settings gaming gpus

My new 'mid-range' 1440p build this month to replace my late-2019 1080p build cost $1851 for the core parts - which are the Thermaltake Ceres 330 Case, SEASONIC Vertex PX-850 PSU, MSI B650 Edge WiFi ATX MB, Ryzen 9 7900 CPU, Grizzly CPU Thermal Kryosheet Pad, DeepCool AK620 Digital CPU Cooler, 2x16GB 4800/6000 DDR5, Solidigm P44 Pro M.2 2280 2TB SSD, & ASUS TUF 7800-XT GPU). It went over $2000 once I added some extras like a 2nd SSD (2.5" SATA3, Solidigm Enterprise/Datacenter-class, 960GB, 7.1PB TBW Endurance), the optional LCD panel Kit for Ceres series cases, Another 32GB DDR5, & a 4th 140mm case fan. I'm picky about the brands/types of components I use though & premium stuff means higher prices. Also, none of that pricing even included any shipping charges or state taxes.

Just 16gb of RAM wont even run chrome+discord+steam without maxing out, let alone game. 32gb is the new minimum.

16gb is still fine Just depends on your use case

Actually, 24GB is the new minimum, evidenced by the new 12GB DDR5 sticks. My own testing has shown this to be fine with Windows 11 even when gaming at 1440p and I leave a lot of tabs open and recorded most of my 150hrs of gameplay in Starfield with the XBox screen capture. Still wasn't getting memory compression. But 16GB is for general purpose machines and the lowest tier of gaming PC in 2024. Sure, you can do more with just 16GB and Windows will adapt by compressing data stored in RAM. But this slows things way down. You can probably still use 8GB to play games but you are going to get about half the FPS. It is a similar effect to when you exceed your dedicated VRAM and the game starts storing textures in the much slower system memory or when you try to play AW2 on a GPU that doesn't support 12U and it has to start emulating those mesh shaders in software.

16gb is fine for gaming. ps5 and series x are stuck at 16gb. the pro will also only have 16gb. You'll benefit with 32gb with other use cases like 3d CAD

For the third build you used a KF, not a K. I have the 13700KF in my build and it's great, but it does not have integrated graphics like the K does.

i'd opt for the rtx 4070 vs the 4070ti for 1440p and save $400. with dlss 3.0, bleeding edge stuff is a waste of money. don't care for wasted fps. futureproofing vs future buying power is a bad arbitrage. in 3 years, you'll have an rtx4090 equivalent gpu in the new gpu offerings at that time for $300-$400 vs $2000 now

im rocking a 4080 super fe and my overall build without optional expensive fans and 50$ extra for a metal solid side panel case is total 1860 without taxes included. but if you plan to play on 1080p/1440p and mostly play on fps game a 4070 super is enough

In 2024, aiming for 'console equivalent performance' is selling yourself short🤣 They have literally cut memory and storage IC production in half to make room for AI processors. If you think the mining boom was bad for gamers, you haven't seen anything yet. 2024 is a great year to get some cheap or free 10-15 year old hardware and going retro. I'd rather play Crysis or FO3 again than anything that has released in the past couple of years. I did play Starfield, but only because I got a free month of Game Pass. I am interested in the Indiana Jones game but I expect it to suck because the last time someone tried to make an open world game with the idTech engine, it didn't work out so well. I am referring to Rage 2, which has a massive graphical bug when moving around the open world that they never could fix. It is sort of like how Cyberpunk will always be prone to insane physics glitches.

You can thank Nvidia for the price gouging, the saw what the scalpers were doing during the pandemic and thought, gee, why shouldn't we enjoy those kinds of profit margins. Scummy, Nvidia, you're just as bad as scalpers.
