No one is upgrading because mid level is $200-500 and no low end new models like a RX7300 or RTX4030 for under $200 that manhandles the older mid level GPUs. So the option is either keep that 1070ti or spend the $200 for a new RX7600 that is only slightly better. 99% of people can't afford $800+ for the last few gens of high end GPUs, and the prices for used 3080 and 2080 is still exorbitantly higher than what they are worth.

My rx580 Nitro, with 8gb memory, still works well for most titles. Of course my rx7800xt is faster and I can turn up the quality settings and still get faster and smoother FPS. But the oldie is still impressive, even powered by an fx 8350 CPU.

This hole backstory about 2014 is simply rose tinted. Yes there was competition and 'price wars'. GTX 970 was touted as really good value and it also was! Allot of people have ran 970's in there lifetime. Even I have used a secound or third hand GTX 700 whatever something, something. It died almost as soon as I got it. GTX 970 was a really well priced card new. And very decent upgrade down the line for somone else. Sure. But what is left out about the 970 here is the what seeminly was allways a artifical VRAM problem. The lawsuites makes it out to be that anyways. GTX 970: 4GB Vram. That was how Ngreedi sold it as. In reality? It was 3.5GB of usable Vram. Diffrent year and yet the same Ngreedia as allways. It sure had 4GB of vram. Yet ones you ran over the 3.5GB limit the cards peformance nose dived so hard to the point of a suttering mess. And it seeminly was a 100% fabricated limitation in the hardware. That last 0.5GB turned the 970 into effectivly a 3GB vram card. Meaning you had to Buy More Save More. There was no reason for the limitation but Nvidia lying that it had to be like that. That is Ngreedia for you. 0.5/4=0.125. 12.5% vram missing. And since no game developer expect such strange vram amount we might aswell do 1/4=0.25. 25% vram missing. 12/16=0.75. 1-0.75=0.25. 25% missing vram. Did Ngreedia not try and sell us 4080's with 12GB of vram? And that became instead the 4070? It is still BS. this time Nvidia did not have to waste the money on half a GB of vram that is unsuable remeber. Efficient! Cost saving even! Let alone die sizes. GTX 960. 2GB vram. A joke back then and a proper joke today. Next 60 card had 6GB of VRAM. A 3x improvment. Laptops in 2020 was still rocking 6GB of vram. And even 2025 is going to see allot of laptops stuck with 8GB of Vram. Then all the suddenly GTX 1060 also became a 3GB card with less peformance. Yet the same freaking name! Save More! Fool the costumers! My 970 was one of those 1060 3GB cards. And currently 1660 Ti laptop and RX 580 8GB desktop. You do not see allot of people running RX 480 8GB mind you. I wounder why? Maybe because people did not FOMO about GPU's back then... Before GTX 900 you had cards dying under warrenty like crazy. Or worse you where forced to upgrade because your card began artifiacting right after warrenty was up. Because Ngreedia are awful at making reliable cards. Buy More Save More. AMD has the issue of software being always borken. Always. We are in the lord and year of AI. Yet AMD can not even make Rocm work for anything. Let alone something as simple as a well working application acceleration. Like Blender. You know... Something not about gaming. Like ANYTHING ELSE THEN GAMING. AMD is no better mind you. RTX 2000 had awful launch problems with vram artifacts. Yet AMD with RDNA 1 had black screen of death problems. Rushed changes of firmware of the cards making the board partners look incompetent when it was AMD fucking up there GPU launch. Where have we heard that before? You know what kind of costumer support AMD gives you with hardware issuses? NONE. Have fun. What about Vega? Like litterly Polaris and RDNA2 are the only two good acritectures AMD have made since HD 7870. 2012! It was so good that AMD rebranded that GPU 3 times! If not more! Ask some AI about it if you are curius. But forget trying to do it on a Radeon GPU! No one takes AMD serisus when CUDA and GPU general compute is more important then any AI or mining ever was. AMD have nothing but gaming cards. Or maybe to feed the mining of crypto. Nvidia you can actually do more then play silly games on a $900 RX 7900xt. That in reality is a RX 7800xt 20GB that should be around $550-600. AMD have only made server GPU's. Vega/RDNA where compute first GPU's. Yet never have AMD truly attempted to bring that to the avrage persons computer. And AMD have ended up paying for it now with AI being the big thing. Imagien a world where AMD had a equal or better CUDA competitor product? Nvidia would be the one falling behinde today. Not like it is right now where AMD and Radeon is as much of a joke as Intel ARC/Battlemage. If not for the world going insane RDNA2 should have been the turning point for Radeon. Instead now AMD can be happy and sure that they can fless us like Intel did with Skylake++++ for a few years with CPU sales. There are no good GPU's to buy meaning that the intrest in anything more then a 6core CPU is moot and worthless. Thans AMD and Nvidia! Have fun with AI bubble. When Intel screweds us with CPU's there was atleast GPU's worth buying. Today? We are gong to see CPU's being the least of our problems.

Nvidia for me is the best graphics card on the market except that their prices are so high here. As a filipino every graphics card here is being sold for 3-10% more than the original price if u convert it from usd to php and they sell used graphics card for the same price as it was from the usd tho if you are lucky you might snatch some good prices on the fb marketplace.

I want to build a new PC as I run triple 1440 for sim racing. Do I take the plunge for 4090 & 14th gen or wait it out for 5080/5090 & 15th gen. I'm currently running 8700k with 1080ti. So it'll be a huge upgrade now, but would others with more knowledge on this wait another 4 months or so?

totally feel the same seem gonna use longer my gpu i feel like 1440p should be mainstream at lower price point ain't the case if ain't including dlss and fsr price structure only climbing and performance is barely improving that the end of glorius era but perharps gddr7 gonna finally bring some better time but gonna take a while probably needing to mature and get to descent pricing maybe in two generation whit game requierement of more and more vram. Also gain whit new node are getting dismunishing return back from 28mm to 16mm to 7mm vas important jump now a days it is like minimal gain so put extra dificulties to achieve gain accross the board of gpu offering whitout creative new design.

To prove DannyzReview's point, I'm still using a liquid cooled RTX2080 (on a 40 inch ultra wide 3440x1440 monitor). I would like a RTX 4080, 7900XTX, or RTX 4090, but I do not want to pay more than $600. SO I will continue to game on my RTX2080 till it dies. Then I will be forced to buy whatever I can afford.

I agree woth you 100 percent on the mining boom affecting the 30 series. I think if the minning and scalping boom had not happened. The 30 series wouldve been the best series of pf graphics cards since pascal. The 3080Ti wouldve been 8-900 dollars and because it was a essentially a price droped 3090 with better lower efficiency with a half the vram it would make it a pretty great card as an 80Ti, since it still could clock high enough... But nvidia didn't do that and 1200 dollars was still a slap in the face. They probably wouldve price dropped the 3090 and 3090 ti if this happened too because no one would effectively be buying it other than people with massive ammounts of money to burn.

The very _second_ I saw the title of this video, I thought of one reason above all: It's because there's NVIDIA, and then there are the rest. Almost no variety whatsoever; just a near-monopoly. Which is why Intel decided to make it interesting and get into the GPU market.
