I feel very lucky that I have a gas station near me that has ethanol-free 93 premium. I've been running this gas in my small engine lawn equipment and most of the time in my motorcycle for about 7 yrs now. I never drain or clean any of my small engine lawn equipment carburetors. They just run fine and I think it's because of this clean clean gas.

If you want to stock up on fuel one way I use is a 150 gallon aluminum tank off an 1-wheeler. I plug every orifice I don't use with stainless pipe plugs and since mine is mainly for inbound bad weather I also plug the outlet I intend to dispense from. When it's time to fill it gets strapped down in my truck bed after installing a stainless ball valve and some stainless pipe for a gravity feed spout. Then I can fill smaller fuel cans effortlessly. I take advantage of carbs to tune for cheap fuel rather than chase more expensive blends. Early HDs have low static compression by modern standards to run on lower grade fuels and for easier kicking. BTW a nice feature of high overlap cams is they lower static compression which is much easier on starters and right legs if you kick.

Block, when you said the gas is 10% ethanol on the pump gas, the sticker at the pump says up to 10% ethanol. Not exactly 10%. Hence your results of about 8 or 9 in the graduated cylinder. It can't be over 10%.

Nice content! You can do this test without a kit, just put gas and water in any measure cup and you can see the same level rise from ethanol being mixed with water. The quantity of water is irrelevant, just measure the ratios - height of gas after pouring and after sitting for 2 mins.

If that gas station shares the same hose for each grade, you should test the first bit you get out of the hose. Bonus points if you do it right after it pumped gas with ethanol. That's how all the gas stations by me are set up, so I'm sure that if I'm pumping after someone else who gets gas with ethanol, I'm probably getting whatevers left in the lines before it starts getting me ethanol free.

Blow by and/or head breather snot if not routed externally... I run Amsoil octane booster and their Quick shot additive to combat ethanol and carbon buildup on piston tops. What's the perceived benefit of the octane booster? I get it for a blown engine.. you can run higher boost without autoignition, but for a NA? Whats the compression ratio on that HD 131? I can't imagine its aggressive based on the dyno output.. Is your knock count poppin off or something?

I am sure that the ignition is advanced a number of degree's by the aftermarket tuner...hence you need the fuel to burn a tad bit longer or you will get knock....for my car I have a low octane tune and a high octane tune and I am sure the difference is the amount of advance....slap the 87 tune when you are taking a long trip to save on gas or if 93 isnt available....

taking some motorcycle training classes is a must, especially if you dont have any experience on any form of motorbike. if your under 20 when you get your first bike and you have limited experience, start with something at max 500cc Yes you will grow out of the bike in 18 to 24 months, but the experience you again and the fun you will have will be worth it.
