I had the SENA SMH5, worked OK for person to person. Once of my speakers cut out and I started looking into a new setup. All the reviews pointed towards the Cardo. Mad the switch to packtalk slim and love it.

shawn taber we have the SMH5 as well and for some reason they stopped pairing. I could hear my wife but we couldn't communicate. Tried everything SENA support stated and gave up. The only thingy we can think of is they got soaked on a road trip and a few months later problems started Looking for a replacement

Myself and my wife have the cards packtack and we love them. Use it for open face, (3/4) helmet, half helmets and full face. We love them!! Although we stopped using Sena after the 5. So can't compare to the other Sena models.

I purchased the sena momentum inc pro and I would say that it is the best system I have ever used. The speakers are large and great quality the buttons are large and spaced out well, the fm radio is excellent. I was not happy with some of there products but with this setup I am very pleased. The camera is not great but as a add on it is fine. The sena unit works better than any other unit I have used so far. I have heard great reviews on line about the Cardo unit and I am thinking of trying that out on one of my helmets for my wife, It will be interesting to see how those two compare. Been running the Cardo for 3 years now no problems. I think they are the absolute best! I had a guy at Cycle Gear try to tell me the Sena were better don’t think so. Ride Safe.

I have pretty loud exhausts, would the JBL’s be able to break through the noise of them? I have have to use memory foam in ear buds to be able to hear anyone on the foam and prevent being deafened.

Jake Daniels The only comparison I can give you is this. I have a yoshimura exhaust on my bike and I wear a Shoei x-14. My speakers are right on my ears like headphones. I can tell you on the highway at 120 or so they’re fine. Speaker position is key. If you have them away from your ears, they may not be loud enough. This unit does automatically volume up to compensate for noise. Even when your volume is all the way up it will get louder. It took me a few adjustments to get them just right because my helmet is tight. I have to have a beanie on before my helmet to keep my ears from folding down. Hope this helps you decide. It’s the best sounding unit I’ve tried. I previously had a Sena 20s and Sena 30K. Both garbage for sound compared to cardo jbl.

Went for the Pack Talk Slim (JBL). Wow! Fits tight to the helmet, and no easy way for it to fall off. Audio quality is fantastic. Working on the voice commands that go with "Hey Cardo". Speed dial through the Cardo app is stupid. One speed dial? Really?

You can use your phone's assistant to call anyone in your phone book. E.g. "Okay Google, call my wife" or "Hey Siri, call John Doe". The speed dial feature is not really needed.

I had always liked Sena until I had to deal with their customer service recently it was the worst customer service I've dealt with in a long time. I bought a Cardo and now realize what I've been missing all along.

I'm one of Jerry's buddies and it works flawlessly. Never had a problem on a week long trip get up in the mornings and they automatically connected to each other. Once we leave the group I can be a pain to connect. Just remember the creator needs to be the one to group the other rides back together. The app will tell you who that is. Once we figured that out it works great.

Another one for the Sena 10CPro, records the video, your voice and anyone else's voice that's in your group, can overlay the music you're listening to if you want, no need for a separate recorder, sound quality is excellent as well. The Cardo may also be good but as I don't have one I can't say.

I have used freecome 1 plus before. Very loud enough, does the job, battery lasted forever. Sold it for a decent price second hand. I just bought myself a GTair 2 helmet, helmet is just amazing. Am now looking for a new comms unit

When they say they are waterproof they mean it. How do I know? Well, my garage had a little fire outside of it, the fire department soaked the inside of the garage to prevent spreading. My helmet and cardo were still in there, and the cardo still works.

I purchased the Sena HD branded 30k to be compatible with the HD Boom Box and WHIM. IT all pairs right up and makes Bluetooth connection for Music intercom phone and nav. works flawlessly if you never move. the moment you move any wind causes the mike to go into vox mode and shut off all music nav phone making those functions useless at anything over 5MPH even with the VOX sensitivity set low. Eventually you lose the intercom with your passenger also. Nothing you can do but wait for it to come back on for a couple of minutes or shut it off and back on. On a two-hour ride you can get 15 minutes of use at best. the cost for a pair of these and a WHIM for use on Harleys will be about 1000 bucks, don't waste your money, you would be better off with two cans and a string. I'm seriously considering unpairing them from the boom box and using it strictly for intercom a task my old SMH10 handled just fine. Money would be better spent on an aftermarket amp and upgraded speakers

glad you are testing that. I am not real happy with my sena. I just want something that works and none of them work 1.2KM. I do see some tests from another channel and the sena did get the best distance at 600m which is way short of 1.2km.

Sena bought reviews. That is the ONLY reason it is so popular. They sent units out to all the media. If you read online the Sena units are NOT actually waterproof. There are lots of complaints about it from people who spent the money on them. This situation is a study in how marketing can overtake actual product performance. I did my research last year and bought a set (Duo) of Cardo PackTalks for my wife and I. I never looked back. They work great. We get a little over a kilometer range with the antenna up. I use it daily to listen to music from my phone on my commute. Charge easily lasts the day on trips. Never had a problem riding entire days in the rain. When trying a Sena in another person's install the audio quality is much better with Cardo. Cardo Packtalk is just a better product.

In your opinion, what is the best device to get if A) I dont want to talk to anybody (another rider), B) want to answer the occasional phone call C) maybe play the occasional song from my phone D) the most important reason, looking for a device that will navigate me in the helmet (from the phone, Google Maps or something).. Is there one device that can do all of the above ?! Sorry for the ask, new rider..

Some other audio sources on the Cardo (such as CB) will fade in slowly over a 2-3 second period when a reception starts which can make the cardo unusuable. Be forewarned, I have a Packtalk black that I can't use now.

As a half helmet guy I wanted to talk to the wife on long trips. We went out and spent a ton of money on full face helmets and sena 30k. We used them 3 times and it was just awful. Not even trying to go mesh just trying to be able to talk and listen to music. 45 min ride all you hear is wind. We are back to half helmets.

Has anyone had an issue with crackly interference at higher speeds on a Harley with a Sena headset? I had a Cardo in 2008, but no one I knew had one, and I don't know where it went, but I plan on getting another. My Bell Qualifier DLX is annoyingly loud while the Sena made to fit it is not.

I am guessing that Cardo finally realized that they could grab market share if they reach out to Moto-vloggers....as in the last 2 weeks at least 3 vloggers I follow are suddenly doing Cardo reviews..:D ANY of these are still WAY better than my old 900 mhz communicator that I velcro'd a ptt button to my handlebars, although I could talk to other walkie talkies that were also on that 15 channel bandwith...LOLZ.

@@BikeNBird Sweet!! Its good that they are finally realizing that they are missing a HUGE opportunity in this community. Sena started concentrating on integrated helmets, however I would never trust my bean bucket to any company besides Shoei or AraI...:d Cardo did the JBL partnership a while ago and it appears to be paying off for them....they all just need to be able to blue tooth communicate to our GoPro/DJI camera's and I would jump in with both feet for sure! The one thing that Chase on Two Wheels noted when he was showing how easily his Cardo released from his mount...the release button was on the front vice the rear like yours...he even popped it off accidentally while in his garage...so different models have different release mechanisms... Anyhow, great review! I will be waiting this year to see the new releases before choosing...hoping beyond hope that they finally bluetooth with camera's for audio (I am not carrying more gear such as audio recorders etc...)

Oregon Motorcycle -you cannot. Get an external set up and edit in post. I just got a new hero 7 and I refuse to put that hideous mic adaptor on my helmet. I’ve gone to an external setup. A little more work but works out great.

Jason C I’ve been told in person by users that the Sena will connect to a GP wirelessly via one of the BT connections. I have been told there is even a section for it in the app. Anyway my 30k arrives tomorrow and I’ll be sure and post up my results with my Hero 5. Thanks for the reply.

Awesome vid to late for me I over paid for the HD boom which is a 30k a week ago, I was ready to throw them away as they would not sync with the firmware program. Who knew you need a special HD/Sena program. Sena has me very frustrated but cant return to retailer. Next time I will know better, I hope.

The sena speakers are so flat! (As in sound flat not their physical size) the JBL in the cardo are MUCH better

Jbl is a huge difference. Crisp highs and good bass. I was impressed. The unit itself is way more advanced than Sena. You won’t regret the switch but your riding buddies also have to switch to cardo to use mesh.

I see you use the recorder to capture the Cardo speaker but not the mic signal. GoPro audio then is aligned in post, correct?

i don't have a wireleass card on my road glide so i use a sena freewire for bluetooth via a 7 pin connector i installed. I dont think cardo supports that.

Bought the Talkpack slim with the stock speakers and then spent almost $100 for the jbl's and there was no difference, also discovered that when two-way talking with another Rider and was interrupted with a telephone call I could not easily go back to the two-way conversation with the other Rider and I'm not sure if it's something I'm not doing right or if it's a flaw with the communicator. Seems to me it should simply switch back after you hang up with the telephone caller. Otherwise I'm pretty impressed with all other features

I'd like to buy a comms unit in the future but do they actually work fine with a loud-ass harley? I mean, will they send sound to others every time I open up the throttle? And I also use earplugs when I ride highway speeds, so I'm wondering if the speakers are loud enough to hear others talking?

We were riding highway speed with open visors with complete silence coming through the coms. The only time we'd get engine noise is when you'd get all 6+ of us (all with aftermarket exhaust) taking off from a red light together. If you're a fan of earplugs, I'd recommend plugphones. amzn.to/2MM57pj They block out all harmful decibels but let your music and coms in.

I actually have those exact earplugs, probably originally found them in your description :D So you can opt to use those earplugs instead of the speakers that come with the comms unit? Don't the excessively long wires of those earplugs make it hard to run them to the comms unit cleanly?

Happy Sunshine -if you have your speakers installed correctly, it’s loud and clear. I have the pack talk slim jbl. I can tell you it’s fine at 120 mph on the highway. I love it. Waaaaay better than a Sena. I switched from the 30K. I have it installed in a Shoei x-14.

Got the cardo bold slim model work good other the voice commands. Which only reason sometimes. Not sure way. Think it did better on the stock firmware for me. Lol maybe next patch will fix it.

You could try a factory reset and re-install the firmware. I had an issue with one of ours where it wouldn't always turn back on after turning it off unless you plug it into power. This despite the battery being near full. Factory reset seems to have resolved the issue. A tip I was given on voice commands (and it seems to work) is to not yell at it, just speak in a normal voice, and imagine a comma between "Hey Cardo" and what you want it to do. "Hey Cardo, volume up."

I have a Sena 30K set, and the speakers suck! They are good for speaking, but they have no bass for music. Nevertheless they pair with the BMW system, wich I was told Cardo's previous models did not. Wander if this model does pair!

My cardo slim was garbage kept turning off wouldn't turn back on even with full charge had to keep pluging in to my charger then it would turn on say full charge then stop.then would loose signal all the time not to mention the crazy instructions lol.oh ya I have a bell mx9 said it would fit on the website nope . Hopefully my sena 50r will work out better.

The audio quality is like 30 dollar wired headphones. You enjoy listning to the music, but my audio technica is far greatet. I might get the 45" speakers. They are also jbl so the qualety is not going to be perfect but it should be good enough.

I’ve noted some Cardo’s with the word “Scala” in the product title, and some products that are not showing the same word. Both with or without the only difference I’ve note is the “Scala” products are going at a cheaper price. Can you tell me what the Scala designation means? One last question where did you position the Microphone?

Its my understanding that cardo bought out scala so they kept their name in the products they designed, then transitioned over to just a cardo brand name. I could be COMPLETELY wrong though. If you look at the newer/more advanced unit, they're all Cardo exclusive. I don't know of any one product that's exactly the same but one has cardo and one has scala. Microphone went just in front of the left cheek pad.

Agree...Sena 30K actually made me HATE Com systems! Voice commands on Sena 30K...HORRIBLE! And always issues with one or others feature. I am going to try this one Cardo!

The echo was caused by 2 seperate units playing at the same time. It wasn't from one unit in particular.

@@sur2baja If you have the WHIM installed it will connect. However, you will not get stereo sound (only mono). Even the regular Sena units won't get stereo sound. You have to have the HD branded Sena models.

Well me being the super handsome, overly charming, philanthropist that I am, I got 3 other units for most of my crew with another 4 on the way. We tested both cardo to cardo and cardo to sena. Long story short, cardo to cardo is amazing, cardo to sena is just about the same as sena to sena

@@RouteNRide I tried the 20s, 20s evo, and the 30k and Cardo has done better. Why do you have your panties so fucking twisted because we're not sucking the tit of Sena. Over the last three years we've bitched about the Senas and their lack of performance. I e read all the manuals and watch all of Senas videos and they still don't operate as advertised. Beyond two connected people in really close direct line of sight they don't perform as advertised.
