Best MTB trails in Cortez, CO - Phil's World

Phil's World in Cortez, Colorado has long been on my bucket list to ride. So, today I bring you Ron's World in Phil's World. The ride region has a reputation as a fun, flowy region with dozens of very rideable intermediate trails. And I would agree with that assessment...this is an awesome place to ride with dozens of intermediate calibre trails to ride. The hardpack nature of the trails allows you to carry your speed better on these very fun, flowy segments. I also rode a couple of their black diamond trails, but for the expert level rider, you might be longing for more! Phil's World is now a collection of 4 nearby ride regions, so there are enough fun trails to keep you riding for 2 or 3 days.

Yup...lots of fantastic trails...I also rode the upper Phil's trails too...could spend a few days here again!

Thanks Jack and thanks for the Spanish clarification! Woops! If you happen to find yourself riding Moab, then Cortez isn’t that much further. It’s mostly an intermediate trail system, but lots of fun flowy trails with occasional technical segments. I am also editing our Telegraph trail video right now and hope to get it posted within the next month. Hope things are going well in SLC!

Yup, its not far from you! Certainly worth a quick road trip to try something new. But, while I was in Cortez, I also rode in the Durango region and only had a few days, but that is also a worthy destination. But back to GJ. That and Fruita are some of my favorite places to ride. I am still finding excellent trails I only recently discovered. During this recent road trip I also looped back through Fruita and rode for a few days in the Kokopelli system. But I also have a few trails in the Lunch Loops area to ride in a future trip. It's such a great place too! Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the compliment! Phil’s is a great all round trail region. I also rode a second day in the Phil’s North region but I think the best trails are in the lower ride area. There is so much riding in the southern Colorado region that I hope to return and explore more in the near future. Thanks for watching!

looks like the perfect terrain for a small travel/dc rig. a spot Ryve would be perfect here, or a Spur. i've got a Propain Hugene that would mock those "black" trails to their faces! 🤗

Pleasantly surprised at Cortez. Never would have even guessed. Plenty of rolling trail and enough chunk to keep you honest. Ron do you ever think you might get a bit lost with all the riding you do? Just wondering if if carrying my phone and Trail Forks will be of help. Does Trail Forks guide you along if you don't particularly know where you are at or going? Haven't purchased the premium Trail Forks just yet. Might just have to give Cortez a whirl.

Yes, Cortez has plenty of rolling trails. I actually prefer a little more spice in my trails but Phil’s will have great appeal for most riders. I have the subscription version of Trailforks and it really helps. I’ve never gotten lost, but cross my fingers, occasionally I ride places that don’t yet have the trail on the app, and so have to be careful at trail intersections. Also, I never ride without my phone and I also have a device which can be turned on for emergencies that uses the satellite system in case the cell phone is out of range.

@@coloradomark2159 yes, the satellite device is a separate thing I also carry on my remote rides. It also has a monthly service fee somewhat like cell service. Fortunately, I have never needed to use it! But you never know…

Got a chance to ride there when we went camping at Mesa Verde some years ago. Rib Cage was a blast. Wish to go back there someday.
