I grew up in Detroit-Shoreway. Happy to see it doing so well!

I grew up in the southwest area of Old Brooklyn, off of Schaaf Road. There are little cape code mixed in with beautiful old mansions (what I consider mansions, anyway). The neighborhood is extremely stable, mostly homeowners. Maybe much in the way of entertainment or dining, but a short drive to Tremont. There's shopping nearby. It was a great place to grow up!!

I’d say Tremont is the best. I lived there for 3 years and loved it. It is a little pricey but the bars, parks, restaurants and stores are great. Also you’re right next to the Steelyard, downtown and Ohio City.

Nice job covering Cleveland's best neighborhoods. However, as you mention, price is a big factor. I grew up in West Park. Kamm's Corners is a fun place, especially for the Irish crowd. It's also more affordable. Now if they would only renovate the beautiful Variety Theater!

i lived in cleveland heights for 5 years from 97 to 2002, loved it there

I grew up in Shaker Heights. Paul Newman grew up there. Lived in Cleveland Heights, Shaker Square and now Maple Heights. For a time I lived with a teacher and her family in Chagrin Falls. My father and uncle were born here but mom was born and raised in PA and my brother was born there. He lives out of state but I just can't be anywhere but Cleveland.

Detroit-Shoreway would be my pick for best neighborhood in the city in my opinion. I was walking around the Gordon Square area and I was really surprised by how nice it was! There's some beautiful new developments close to the lake and the ability to walk to Edgewater Park and get to the Lakefront Trail so easily is great! The problem is that it's a bit expensive these days lol Also, I think the Edgewater neighborhood is also a really great and relatively safe neighborhood, it just isn't really that "trendy" anymore for some reason.

Most Lakewood homes are indeed older, but they all have character and amenities that are not found in many other suburbs. They were built to last. My home is probably worth about $250k, but I pay over $600k in insurance for replacement value. I question my insurance agent repeatedly if they would really pay more than the house is worth and he has always said "yes".

Sadly the four areas you cited are quickly be encroached by unsavory hoods..... crime rates need to be looked at VERY closely.

Last place the Gordon district I drive every week. He is right lits of good places to live but still within gang disputes. Loads of good living areas. This guy has hit most of the marks.

I moved to the Cleveland area with some trepidation, knowing about the violence issues it has. Indeed, I had one brush with gang terror when I got lost in the wrong area (Clark Fulton). I lived in the suburb of Westlake for two years and in Lakewood along Warren for two years. The Rush Hour commute from Westlake to the city was about 35 minutes. From Lakewood, 20 minutes, tops. Lakewood is pretty safe-the further west you go, the safer it is. It gets a little dicey around the “Bird streets” closer to 117. Lakewood has great restaurants, cool shops, but it is sort of pathetic when it comes to parks. Basically there’s the one on the lake, and the metro park on the western border, and that’s it. Not a lot of accessible trees. Westlake has several parks, and an awesome library. It is also more “plastic suburbia,” with a lot of chain stores. So funny that this guy talks about carjackings? I think he means car theft? Because there aren’t many things more terrifying than carjackings! Of the neighbourhoods he mentions, Detroit Shoreway is probably the safest. Ohio City is where people go to party. But, in the actual city of Cleveland, the poverty, desperation, and the gangs are always close by. Cleveland is such a mixed bag. It is wonderful for arts and food. But there are downsides. Things you don’t think about. For instance, T he soil in Cleveland has a lot of lead and other poisons in it, since this was an industrial area for decades.

Thank you for focusing on the positives. Cleveland has 83 municipalities, so each city is fairly tiny. Something for everyone.

So since housing is so expensive, who will be able to afford the bars and restaurants that are the selling points.

I will make a few separate comments here. Great video to start. I will comment as we go. First, the King of Jordan came to Cleveland for many medical treatments. Little Italy is now somewhat dangeroys. Although what is being said is mostly true.

You forgot to mention Shaker Heights and Shaker Square, Beachwood Heights, Bratenahl, and Lakeshore Blvd.

Tremont district you begin to get gang involved. Houses are going for a premium bt worth it but gang activity is there.

There’s two sides to Detroit-shoreway: Gordon Square and the crack triangle

I had a friend who went into Detroit Shore-way one Saturday morning, went in as a liberal left Democrat, by the time he left at 10:30 pm that night, he was a staunch MAGA hat wearing Republican.

If you want a real taste of what Cleveland is all about and you're moving here.. Parma, brookpark, Berea on the west side Lyndhurst, Mayfield , Euclid on the East Real people.. Real neighborhoods .. You can always visit Tremont and those other spots , they are a short drive away But I don't know about living there every day.

West Park...all the advantages of living in the city and suburbs. Safer and less expensive than the trendy west side neighborhoods. Roll out of bed to the red line to get anywhere worth visiting in the city. Easy access to the western suburbs via I-90 without the comical property tax. Kamms and downtown Lakewood right in your back yard.

As someone that lives in University Circle, it's a 15 minute drive to downtown not 5. I just wanted to confirm that. I'm planning to move to Ohio City because as you mentioned, it's actually a 2 min drive to downtown, has it's own downtown, and has Detroit Shoreway and Tremont nearby. Heads up to others, try to not consider University Circle as it's just okay. Much better to be on the west side right near downtown. Also to get downtown from University Circle you have to go through a horrible East Cleveland hood. Ohio City is 1 train stop away from downtown. University Circle is 6 stops away from downtown. Pick the one that is close and better.

Absolutely incorrect. West Park is by far the best, safest, cleanest part of Cleveland proper.

Well, the good news is that you could probably buy a half mile plot of land in East Cleveland for about $100.

I’ve been living in Lakewood in the Gold Coast for nine years now, and absolutely no intention of leaving ever, it’s got everything a nice , diverse bohemian crowd, nice residences, the lake is at my doorstep, Our condo pool literally looks right at the lake, parks everywhere , tons of stores and shopping, nice people, and five minutes along the shoreway into downtown. The city itself of Lakewood I feel is an extremely well ran functional city, and that’s major. I like the fact that I feel so connected to the city of Cleveland itself to. The prices are reasonable also. As far as I’m concerned for my own circumstance it doesn’t get any better anywhere.

3 generations of my family lived in Slavic Village. I ran away in '09 to Seven Hills because of the drugs, crime, violence, and black racism.. Predominantly professionals and retired professionals. Mostly owner occupied single family homes. Super low crime. High taxes but you get 90 second police response and fire/ems. Close to 77/480. Since '09 my home value increased $100k. If you plan to move to the Cleveland area Seven Hills is your top choice.

I love all of these areas as far as bars and restaurants are concerned. However, they are still iffy. I would not walk any of the streets after 10 or 11. And, if you have nice car, better be in a locked garage. Best place my opinion? Little Italy. They don't permit da'hood to come over and destroy things. Great video. Inciteful.
