So glad I found this. I am 80 years old and I always loved Red Skeleton. I had a strict bedtime in school and the nights his show was on I was allowed to stay up to watch him. I think my favorites were Heathcliffe and Gertrude. I wish there were reruns. And of course there were his many movies. 🥰 Thank you for this post. I will always miss Red! ❤️❤️❤️

My family and I always watched the Red Skelton Show, those were the best days of my life. My Dad died in '72, same year this show was filmed. I remember how he would laugh and laugh at the antics of this true comedian, I can't think of his equal.

I had just came on duty. I was making my first trip down main street in my police car. I stopped at a red light in front of a local drug store. I had to look twice when Red Skelton came out of the store and walked right up to the police car and said "well, hello father..." Then he said "OH MY, my mistake, the black uniform fooled me, I better not give you my confession". He said he was doing a show at the local Executive Inn but he never buys things like shavers or cigars at the hotels because they charge too much. He said he always goes to local stores to buy stuff. I ask why he did not have any escorts or body guards. He just smiled and said "who would ever hurt Freddie the Freeloader" I ask if he would sign my notebook. As he did he said "well, mom always said one day I would end up in a police notebook." I feel forever blessed to have spent few moments with the greatest comedian ever.

Use to watch your show at my grandmothers house. She took my brother and I out of the Franco American Orphanage in Lowell, Mass. Kept us for about 3 or 4 years. Rachel Perry was her name. She was so wonderful to us. I was so young. I never thanked her. Seems now a day never goes by that I don’t say “Thank you Meriere” Another regret I have is one day I gave her fur coat to a donation drive. I still remember the guy throwing it in the truck.!! Only have a picture of her with it on. Will always wish I had kept it. I love ❤️ you Meriere.

How blessed we are to see this man's devotion to his wife, and his numerous other talents! Handel wrote the lovely Messiah, but to my knowledge never lifted a paint brush. If he were younger I would want him to run for President, as "integrity" is his middle name. Rest in peace, dear Red!

I remember watching this when it first aired in 1992. I had it taped on VHS and watched it many times since but haven’t been able to find it for some time now. If you knew and loved Red this is a must watch and if your never heard of Red this is a must watch. Red Skelton was one of the last of a pioneering generation of entertainers that was gifted with talent and grace beyond our understanding. He had a Davinci class of abilities and used them to them to the fullest while becoming beloved by all. There is a second episode where Red just walked on the Dini Petty set while taping a show. The love, joy and tears explode from everyone as it unfolded and it was also magical. If that tape exists please post it as well.

Such a precious soul this man of Good Humor! I'm 60 years old and I still Cherish Red Skelton's program's and skit's. Klem was my favorite. I vividly remember his programs I watched in my childhood, and i always laughed at his good Cheer. There's none like him, yet it's his type of humor we need to bring people together in laughter and hope. I wish I had had the opportunity to meet him, and yet I did in this one of its kind interview. As he always ended his program, "good night and God bless...." I look forward to meeting him on the other side, in Heaven.

Such a wonderful interview! Red is the type of man you'd just love to spend an entire day with...such a delight and a truly humble and compassionate human being. Knowing all of the difficulties he's had to experience in his personal life, and that in spite of them he carried on and fulfilled his desire to bring laughter to the whole world, it speaks volumes about who he was. I consider it an honor to have been alive at the same time as Red, and that I was able to experience him first-hand and not just as some flickering image in an old video, even though that would still be enough for me. May he never be forgotten, and may future generations continue to be entertained and inspired by Red. He is a blessing to all generations...

How do you know he was kind, because of his smile? Are you a family member of his? If not, that's pretty arrogant and silly statement. If you're an adult you should know that all we common people know about celebrities etc. is their public image, nothing else, unless you are a family member. I am not saying that he wasn't a kind man, but mixing a public image created by his work, his agents, managers etc. with reality, is little silly. I would only appreciate his work, because I didn't knew him personally. If you did, good for you.

@mysticmaverick 1 🌿💕 I think Red was so full of love that he drew strength from people around him. Remember how he said he looked at the audience and saw them as family? He must have felt that God put him in touch with dear Ed Wynn at just the right time. My late husband and I saw him from the nosebleed seats at the Fox Theatre in Detroit years ago. Then we got closer a yr or so later when he returned. If his show was "ad-lib" that's amazing, because he told over an hr and a half of the very same jokes❣️😜And we all laughed our heads off again! He was coming back again a yr or so later but hurt his knee and postponed. We renewed our tickets through another rescheduling, but he passed away before he could return. That just shows what a trooper he was and never one to quit. Such a special person.

Red Skelton was the real deal. I am seventy, and remember watching him on our grandma and grandpa’s tv. Back when they were slightly bigger than a toaster. My brother and I laughed and then tried to repeat the show later. He had that talent of pulling you back and forth between the worlds of reality and hilarious silly humor. When the scientists of the world perfect cloning humans, I would like to spend a couple days or weeks talking, an laughing until I hurt, with this comedic genius and true human being.

I've seen bread in action. Live on TV when it was black and white. Always enjoyed the show. Running forward a few years I got married and had a son. I bought him a video cartridge the best of Red Skelton. It made him laugh, I told him do you know his Red Skelton doesn't use dirty words in his skits. That's why I picked him somebody that can be funny without saying vulgar words. This is just my opinion I think Red Skelton has a special place in heaven. But I'm not the boss.
