Something I never noticed before. But I really like how Sypha frames Trevor's improvement as a person. She's not saying "you and I should adventure together because I'm fixing you and making you a better person," its "you and I should adventure together because I think that adventuring and saving people is your life's calling and is making you a better person, and I would like to be with that better person." It would be really easy to make Sypha the reason he improves, and further perpetuate the mythos of women needing to fix their s/o's. Instead, she simply encourages him to follow the path she sees has done well for him, and is interested in being by his side for the process, and because she enjoys the man that's developing because of it. It's a really important distinction, and one that shows care and maturity on behalf of the writers.

She is sassy and a badass. I wouldn't mind having her as a travelling companion.

This is gonna seem like an odd point to focus on, but it's something I love about her character design and animation. Someone designed her with realistic, messy, grown-out hair. Not perfect, not sexy, but honestly realistic. If you're a curly-haired person wearing your hair very short and you let it grow out and don't have time to mess with it, it will do what Sypha's hair does: curl in like four different ways, separate where the natural part is, and start creating some crazy shapes. Sypha's hair isn't stylishly messy or seductively messy; it's just MESSY. It's the hair of someone who doesn't have the luxury of maintaining it. She's cut it short so she doesn't have to worry about it, and it's grown out and is doing what real hair does. It's a small thing, but it shows such awareness of them portraying her as a real person, and actually designing her to be true to what someone living the life she does would look like. Frankly, that's awesome.

Holy fuck, the rarity of this. Isn’t so hard to create now, is it?

Sypha is a great example of how to write a female character. She doesn't overshadow the men, but she has just as many wins as them. She does fail from time to time, but gets right back up and keeps going. She can be rude, gross, and harsh, but she can also be sweet, ladylike and delicate. SHE'S A CHARACTER! I always say, character first, everything else later.

*3:55* Jokes aside, Sypha does have a very good point. Oral tradition is fascinating to say the least, but it can often be flawed and if not well kept can be easily lost. Take the Slavs for example, they used to have a very strong oral tradition about their folklore and mythology but once Christianity and the use of text came into play, all that oral folklore kind of died off until only a handful of said folklore and history could be preserved in writing and reading. "The page and the text was made to keep what the mind and tongue can lose." That's what my mentor taught me.

Sypha is a great example of the "strong female character" that is a joy to watch. She's smart, confident, competent, and has her strengths. But she also has her vulnerabilities (emotional and combat) and is shown working to improve her knowledge and abilities. She is probably one of my favorites. :)

This is going to sound weird, but......I actually like the fact that Sypha's wearing robes for the entirety of the series. Not because she's unattractive, far from it. But because it keeps people from being distracted by her attractiveness, and allows us to focus on her personality. A lesser series would focus so much on her sexuality that she would have been reduced to a talking blow-up doll. But not this show. This show actually treats her like a human being with emotions.

Okay before anyone else complains that I forgot season 3 scenes in the video, I'd like to kindly point out that this video was made _loooooooong_ before we even got at kind of news for the third season, long before we even got a trailer, and definitely long before the new episodes were released. I get it that everyone wanted to see her season 3 best moments but this video was made when we only had 2 seasons available to make anything with. God I loved her so much. Female spell casters in fiction are usually so lame to me. They stand far away, and shoot big spells. That would always be all they do, but everyone else in the fictional universe would treat them the same as front line fighters. And if they did use magic to boost their physical abilities, it is barely noticeable, always in some sort of subdued controlled way. It would feel like magic was less something that empowered them, moreso something that showed how weak they are. Meanwhile Sypha regularly showed that proficiency with magic DOES make her incredible. Like, making the icicles. We'd literally seen her launch a massive ice pillar, but when faced with numerous foes in an enclosed space, she masterfully makes dozens of ice spears, not because she can't do a bigger spell, but because it is clearly the best use of her talents, keeping foes at a distance and killing them in one blow. Or just standing up to a spell cast by Dracula. Sure, Trevor gave her a boost, but normally when a male character "saves" a female character, it just undercuts her baddassery so the hero can save a damsel in distress. But in that moment, she isn't a damsel. She's someone doing something nearly impossible, and Trevor is standing in to give the little support he can so she can pull it off. It's just all so good, and we never see this in media.

One detail I loved is when she is scorching Dracula and Alucard is in the way, flinching, she looks worried and stops immediately.She cared so much about him that she didn't care Dracula might hurt or even kill her.
