think people are overestimating old Toph. She’s definitely still a threat but nowhere near as much as she used to be. She’s old, reflexes shot, slowed down, not as agile or fast and has back problems Toph is a legend but she’s not soloing the season, or at least not in her current form

Lin movements are rigid while suyin movements are flexible. Thats kind of describing their respected personalities.

I think their movements also differ based from their experiences, be it that Lin did her time fighting criminals in Republic City (thus doing a lot of physical work, making a toll of her entire body) while Suyin ventured off, doing a lot of work outside of just earthbending and metalbending (like sandbending and circus act) that helped refine her movements. Yes they both came from Toph (a prodigy at age 12) but that doesn't mean they're as same as her nor as each other

Lin uses more force and power, but I wouldn’t call her movements rigid. Look at the sisters’ fight. Both look pretty fluid in their movements to me

i think it's the difference between positive jing and neutral jing. suyin bends like toph. she waits and uses things that come to her. lin's fightstyle is more offensive and is reminiscent of the earthbenders in atla 1

It's interesting that the more conservative sister Lin, uses more earthbending, the traditional art, and the more progressive one Suyin, uses more metalbending (the newer art).

Combustion bending is pretty awesome, but I always thought it gave the user tunnel vision, which meant susceptibility to surprise attacks.

If I had to guess fire bending was fueled by anger or raw passion like Young Zuko and Iroh. Stronger anger like Azula led to her blue flame a hotter and more concentrated flame. Focus that heat in a tight, very specific spot and boom instant combustion. From that perspective, you're absolutely right.

Yes as a martial artist IRL (TKD Family much love for us❤) I can say that she has sort of like a tricking flow martial art type of movement compared to Lin who’s more grounded and traditional earthbending style

I continue to be amazed at the fluidity that you can work into animation, how the elements (fire, earth-metal, water and air) and the movement of the characters flow so easily such that the element becomes an extension of the person in the movement🤯🤯🤯🤯, and it is so much harder to get this effect with live action. After 2 tries, I say it's time to give up on the live action Avatar...it just doesn't translate.

Suyin bends as if she incorporates water bending into her fluidity . Lin is more controlled in her bending style , which ultimately is her down fall. Sort of like when Korra struggled with air. It’s like she’s fighting against her own potential in a way .

Yes but no actually. Lin was not really in her right state of mind when fought agains Su and also was not with her armory fighint in someone's else place. It was pretty clear that Su would win based on the circunstances and yet Lin got on pair with her
