Korra enemies Amon, Unalaaq, Zaheer, and Kuvira where all different benders. Though Amon was a waterbender it was his Non-bending followers that was causing chaos. The Legend of Korra showed there where bad people from all nations

She shows us a LOT more than that. She is what every one of the villains feared: She is a bending tyrant, she destroys the sacred spiritual aspects of the world, she is a fascist who enslaved a nation and allows for no freedom… And beyond that she teaches us about how fascist dictatorships work: The rhetoric and propaganda used, the militarism “might is right “mentality, obsession with “law and order” as an excuse to strip all freedoms and liberties from people, economic control to the point that a few wealthy industrialists have a whole nation working as slaves for their benefit and the only way out of slavery is to join the military cause, the systemic persecution of ethnic minorities, (the guy from the prison camp mentioned the persecution in case you dont remember) and the infinite expansionism that would have led to her needing to conquer the world, crush the nations who would try to intervene, to maintain the empire. And the show even made her giant cannon tank thingee look identical to the Nazi’s model down to the inch. Fascism seems understandable and like “the only option” for some people when a country is in times of chaos and turmoil, but it is NEVER the answer, and we must never listen to or be brainwashed by the Kuvira’s of the world, because they’ll just make things 1000 times worse.

I love how she was introduced as a background character, and not like a foreshadow nor was She introduced right as the arc finished. You slowly learn more about her and you wonder who She is. Gives a bit of realism to the world as not all threats appear after one disappears

I like that they did that, but I also like the idea of Suyin lending her to Team Avatar as a guide around Zaofu, making her heel turn a sting a bit more.

i will say when i saw her introduce herself to korras dad in book 3 I definitely noticed that she had that look of significance. I didn't predict "she is gonna be the big bad of season 4" if I said that i'd be lying if i said i did. but i knew as soon as it zoomed in on her face she would have some significance in book 4 i love your comment though because you are right she very much started as a nobody and became super important like historic figures

She was the only avatar villain that wasn’t going in blind with power alone. She was analytical, a strategic mastermind, and knew of ways to break the enemy. She is in all reality a true villain.

@Toph Beifong Azula was more like a sociopath then anything but she still had the "raw power" mainly and rarely ever showed off her logistical skills. The only moment she did was in all honesty during the Fall of Ba Sing Se which in reality wasn't all that special cause the Dai Li were pretty much only interested in a person with power.

Kuvira proved herself to be the perfect match for Korra in Book 4. I was disappointed that their final battle didn’t last all that long.

I honestly think everything messed up when they put mechas in the show. That spoiled completely the beautiful martial arts of the previous seasons, and a mecha bigger than the tallest buildings of Republic City is just absurd. I understand the possible lack of funding because of the early end, but Kuvira's empire was perfect for a strong reference to Third Reich, what a pity they couldn't use it better.

If only Nickelodeon hadn't cut the budget. Kuvira's origin episode was exactly what we needed and it would have made her redemption arc feel more earned.

@@naturalinstinct4950 Eh I think Kuvira is perfectly fit to be a ruler given her accomplishments. Kuvira reunified and stablized the EK a feat that only Chin the Great/Conquer only ever accomplished. Kuvira turned her violent, backwards, primitive, lawless Asian-sized homeland that fell into a warring states period rife with banditry, crumbling outdated infrastructure, mass famine, and etc into a rising modernizing superpower that boasted living standards superior to that of the old EK and were quickly approaching that of the most developed countries in the world if not surpassing them entirely. She even nearly managed to restore her homelands historic Pre-Hundred Year War borders. The only issue regarding her rule was her not paying enough attention to how her subordinates were running the reeducation camps.

I think the Earth Kingdom’s monarchy would be perfect and better than any pathetic Republic if, instead of doing what she did, Kuvira forced Wu to marry her and then inserted earthbending genes into the Royal Family. They could use the same strategies as the Fire Nation used: making the Royal Family the strongest earthbenders in the world with royal-only training. A powerful and unrivaled Royal Family equals a powerful and unrivaled country.

Zelda Williams and Jan Varney are besties in real life, and even have a connection to the same university. Long before Zelda Williams was on the dance team at UC San Diego, Jan Varney was a cheerleader.

Suyin seems to have treated her more like an apprentice rather than a daughter, but still gave her so much. Suyin gave Kuvira an excellent education, a lavish lifestyle and titled her captain of the guard.

I'm so glad that Kuvira was able to redeem herself. She is one of my favorite antagonist in LOK, because her intentions weren't for herself, as I'd like to think and she genuinely wanted to make things better. The last part made me cry❤️😩 I wish Azula also have a chance for a redemption arc😢

Azula wasted an amazing prime in an asylum I would believe. After her brother Prince Zuko and Master Katara defeated her in the Agni Kai, she was left chained o her floor and sobbing. Zuko would have probably put her in a penal colony prison or asylum. Still, she could have escaped and went on to hide in the wilderness for the res of her days.

This only further reinforces why I’m not a big fan of Suyin. She’s a massive hypocrite and a narcissist. It’s okay for her to condemn Kuvira for her past mistakes, but wants Lin to forgive her of her own. Bataar Jr. also went down the same dark path, but he gets a pass? Lin’s right. She really hasn’t changed at all.

Now that you bring it up, i remember that too! Definitely narcissistic vibes. Though i wish Toph would have revisited that properly aside from the brief scene she had with Lin where they made amends. Lin followed all of the rules but somehow she gets cast aside? Lin had all the right to go NC with both Toph and Suyin. Suyin definitely had a lot of time on her hands that her traits weren't seen by the rest of her kids. Bataar Jr. saw it all for what it was, I don't blame him for taking the path that he did

Suyin was once a lazy selfish criminal, but she definitely changed a lot and became a loving mother and a successful governor. Just look at Zaofu It's practically a paradise. It's a peaceful city and center for art and scientific learning thanks to the leadership of Suyin. Suyin didn't become a crime lord like Yakone or a brutal dictator like Unalaq.

@@alaljarensi6990 a narcissist doesn't necessarily have to be someone who is like Lady Tremaine from Cinderella. Narcissists will vary in their selfishness. However Suyin definitely played Toph and that's up to Toph if she's willing to revisit that with herself. She redeemed herself with creating a city that caters to Metalbenders, but the fact that she's not willing to revisit her own wrong doings towards Lin and how critical she is of others instead of her own self speaks volumes about her character. Then Lin has to accept the apology at face value for the sake of the balance of the world.

Knowing she was going to be the next villain and having her be introduced in the Red Lotus arc was amazing. “You can call me Kuvira”. And they zoom in on her face. They had this all planned out. One of my favorite moments in the show was when Korra goes to Zaheer searching for answers. He then has to face the consequences of his actions when he learns more about Kuvira, and helps the Avatar reach stability, as he does not like world leaders. Personally, I would’ve LOVED to see Kuvira vs Zaheer. Would’ve been absolutely AMAZING.

Zaheer would embarrass kuvira, kuvira was arrogant, trying to fight the avatar directly, she would have been killed in that first battle if it hadn't been for korra's mental weakness. Zaheer nearly succeeded while kuvira never really had a chance

@triange1304 I honestly hate that they decided to redeem her! In the comics they make it seem that somehow nobody got killed by her actions, which is just unbelievable. Look i wouldn't mind a redemtion arc for her, if they didn't show her blasting that border guard building and the ships with her cannon, there is just no way that nobody got killed by that... Okay, she move up to A tier on my villain list. I have a soft spot for villain recognizing the error in their ways and redeeming themselves. She wasn't as terrifying like amon or as charismatic like zaheer. And we don't talk about unalaq. But now for me she's more than just a mid tier villain. Just a little bit more than that.

Hope they have a mini series and she becomes something like what Bucky/Winter soldier/White wolf was. Her home is attacked and she is called back to action when she is happily living peacefully but fights anyways.

Kuvira did nothing wrong , she stopped chaos in earth kingdom and later wanted to regain territory of earth kingdom . I never understood why republic city was built in earth kingdom instead of fire nation since you know fire nation was one to start war and not only that but earth kingdom was one that fought the most

I’m still a proponent of her becoming a temporary Team Avatar member in Season 3. Like, Suyin lending her to the team as a liaison. I think that would have made her heel turn in Season 4 a touch more impactful.

You know, I see a pattern here. Earth Kingdom tries to take over the world, but get stopped by the Avatar. The Fire nation tries the same thing, but get foiled by who? The Avatar. And then the Earth Kingdom make a second attempt to conquer the world, but what happens? The Avatar prevents that from happening a third time. You’d think they would learn by now not to make a power grab of world domination. Because what happens every time? Well, you get the idea.

@@GreatUniter Yeah, and to accomplish that she needed Republic City. Aang and Zuko in the comics we're divided what to do with it. Whether to return it to the Earth Kingdom or not. The Earth King wanted it back. Aang originally wanted to give it back too iirc. It was an issue that was going to eventually come up once the Earth Kingdom was powerful enough to exert its claims.

Things could've worked out really well if Suyin took charge stablizing Earth Kingdom. She's built to be a General, not a ruler. Just imagine tho, Suyin being the country's charismatic bebevolent leader and she's the attack dog if ppl step out of the line, that's a real world superpower I'm talking! I bet Suyin will have smoother ways talking her way to Wu's decree and a better plan to take Republic City(if the power corrupts her) --such us putting economic sanctions and diplomatic pressures etc, and gets her way through careful maneuvers and manipulation. Which is way more fun to watch than, let's say, brute force.

Kuvira had the toughest moments in life - from her exile in her family to the exile in Zaofu - she experienced dark points where her evil self originated. But she also had the toughest calls and decisions to make in life, and it led to changes in her life. Her final decision to plea guilty on the final trial and take full charge of her actions, that was the point where she finally redeemed herself, her reputation, her family in Zaofu, to the Beifongs, and to the world.

She deposed a King and warlords which it is ironic because they actualy do not have a right neither a power. She united all provinces and people accepted the rule and she restablished the order. Was her rule authoritarian yes but more acceptable than the most. At least she didnt inherited the power she created it.

She went out her way to minimize bloodshed. The protagonists broke international borders as well on mutiple occasions before they even learned she was going to attempt to initiate an operation that would result in the indigenous population regaining stolen territory if she was successful.

The video tries to paint Kuvira as callously betraying Bataar Jr when he was captured, but she really did love him; she just weighed his singular life vs the ability to end the war then and there with all her enemies gathered in one place, and decided that she couldn't give up the opportunity even for a loved one.

I wish Kuvira's character wasn't just another villain archetype in the end. If she remained an Anti-Hero or had a slight change in attitude towards the end, instead of just building a super lazer and all that, it would've fit better. Have her and Korra face a different threat entirely, together. Perhaps during that period, Wu learns to be a better Monarch, and this eases Kuvira into a more amicable spot with him, and they come to a reasonable compromise. A Constitutional Monarchy of sorts

She is like an earthbending, more modern version of azula, but the only difference, is that she actually redeemed herself and is striving for a better future, while azula lived the rest of her days alone, being a shell of her former glory.
