The Plinketto board is back to terrorize the BOTW gang. It's possible with the selections at hand, the ball landed on the worst films possible. Is it fate? Is it the universe telling these losers to get a life? We'll let YOU decide.

Oh wow Keaton's Cop! They filmed this "movie" in my hometown of Galveston, Tx. The barber cutting Abe Vigoda's hair was my grandfather. He was a local barber who had a very heavy Italian accent so they dubbed his voice (you can hear the dub, "buon giorno" at the 9:56 mark). It was strange, because they wanted him to speak Italian but they used a crappy voice over instead. Also they shot all over the place so one second they were driving near the beach and the next they were in a residential area, then back to the beach. Very confusing. The "ice cream parlor serving oysters" location was a seafood place called Benno's on the Beach. It still exists and pretty much looks exactly the same as in the movie! Made me homesick. This movie was terrible, but my grandfather had a great time and it was wonderful seeing him on Best of the Worst!

The shooting all over the place is a very normal thing for movies to do. Geographical accuracy is one of the least important aspects of a movie and only a fraction of the audience will ever notice it. It would be too hard and/or expensive to search for places that fit the screenplay directly and the flow of the action is so much more important. Not that this movie looks like it has any flow, though... ;)

@Glassandcandy
@Glassandcandy 7 жыл бұрын
they're both very good imo, but I jive with Mike's style more. I don't think it's appropriate to assume one is imitating the other though, I think they just have similar taste and background. Though generally, when it comes to things like half and the bag, I generally agree with Jay's opinions on movie making more than Mike. For example, Mike is fan of structure, as he has stated multiple times in previous videos. I too love structure in films, but I also love avant-garde and the stylistic departure from structure to re-contextualize how we engage with films in general. This is a take on film that I see more in Jay's comments ala Half in the Bag, Best of the Worst, and Re:View. In short they're both inspiration to me as someone who does video editing and film making as a personal hobby, yet though I find myself agreeing with Jay's takes on movie more than Mike, I have learned more from Mike's close attention to detail than I have from any other member of RLM. Love em all though; if u guys are reading

The James Horner score used in Space Raiders was actually composed for Battle Beyond the Stars, which was Mr. Horner's first feature film, and predates Star Trek II by 2 years. So TECHNICALLY Star Trek II is the rip-off score. I believe a lot of the special effects were also from Battle Beyond the Stars; Roger Corman really knows how to stretch a buck.

I am shocked, SHOCKED I say, that not one of the RLM crew has seen 'Battle Beyond the Stars'! It is a B-Movie masterpiece, and not only features early work by James Horner, but those nifty space battles were care of pre-fame James Cameron. As penance I decree that they must devote a BOTW to this masterful remake of 'The Magnificent Seven' (in SPAAAACE!)

Did the math on this 'cause I got really fucking bored. Assuming that the spacecraft maintains a chemical propulsion speed of 24,000 mp/h while also assuming the average distance to Mars to be 33.9 million miles away, that would take 1,412.5 hours, or around 58.8542 days of maintaining that constant speed without navigational readjustment or course correction. All things considered, that ain't bad.
@Sustenance21
@Sustenance21 7 жыл бұрын
First off, who is "they?" NASA estimates that it would take 6 months to reach Mars on a one way trip. Others say it would take 5 months, while still others estimate it would take upwards of 10 months. None of the sources I found estimated it to be 2 years, however. The math I did was based solely off of raw calculation (see: maintaining that constant speed without navigational readjustment or course correction) which is where the other amount of time comes from. Now, I was at the very least around 90 days off, but, again, I failed to take into account how long the course corrections would take. And since I'm by no means a rocket scientist, I'll leave the more in depth computing to the professionals. I just wanted to give a general sense of how long it might take to make such a trip.
@broadwayat
@broadwayat 7 жыл бұрын
Sustenance21 The projected paths to mars are not straight lines but very long, out of the way arcs. So are those estimates simply calculated with distance to mars over speed or are they actually adjusted for the actual viable flight paths. You might be right but never heard of an estimate below 12 months.

It didn't get much of a reaction in the screening room, but I think it's so hilarious that they actually just blew up the natives in the first movie. I can't get over the fact that they spent the whole movie befriending all these people and making (or tried to make) us care about them, only to have the heroes indirectly kill them all and it's treated as a big triumphant win.

I keep coming back to this episode because I’m in awe of the survivor. It might possibly be the worst kind of bad movie. It’s boring on a surface level, it’s uninteresting on a character level, it’s ugly on a visual level, and it’s uninspired on an idea level. But worst of all, if you try to get invested in the plot, it is so overpacked with so many details that you are exhausted when you try. Unlike other lesser b movies that have boring and simplistic plots, this one is like a laundry list of bullshit that ends up holding no emotional importance at all. At best it effects the actions of the characters, if at all. It might literally be the worst kind of movie ever. Boredom + ugly + unoriginal + exhausting. It’s the kind of movie that doesn’t give you anything but instead takes away from you. Of all the people in the world that have seen that movie, I doubt there was a single person that enjoyed it.

Larry Rockensuess Jr. I thought the same thing. I don't think they do know. In their defence, they are about 10 years (give or take) younger than myself and really don't know most of these low budget films that I recall seeing theatrically or on video when they first came out. They should’ve used the space raiders plot for the phantom menace. Anakin stows away with raiders to help make money to get his mom free; finds the Jedi along the way. That makes the story a lot simpler and easy to follow. It also lets you insert a Han Solo type character as the lead raider that can make a quasi main character. The whole palpetine being the menace can still be done just more subtly and smarter

James Horner was actually kind of famous for plagiarizing his own work. There's multiple articles written about it. It's something that I first noticed when I was a kid, watching Legends of the Fall for the first time and realizing that one of the motifs was almost identical to one from Cocoon. Ever since then, I've noticed it in varying degrees in almost all of his scores. But honestly, his music is some of the best so it's hardly a complaint.

I (partly) blame the producers. When they put a temp track score to a rough cut: "Which composer have we got signed to do this one? Ok, Horner. Let's try and see how older pieces fit the scene..." As a composer, this limits your opportunities to try something new.

The scene where he's asking for the number of Kosta, gave me flashbacks to all the irritating customers I dealt with doing directory assistance. Often it's spelled with a C, but he's being a jerk, like they should know it's a K, then says it's the Irish part of town. Directory assistance does searches by city and last name, not colloquially termed areas; but he's acting like the operator is an idiot for not being able to find the listing. Still this would have been the least rude of the bad callers was when I worked there.
