Seneye Reef costing 100 is still fine for a home aquarist, especially if you only need a PAR meter and don't buy those monthly "slides" for continuous monitoring of water parameters.

I have the ITC PARWise and the Apogee MQ-510. I did many tests on the two using Metal Halide and LED to check readings. I found the PARwise to be a more accurate measurement of actual PAR. The PARwise has PAR readings, Spectrum readings, and also DLI measurements. It's a great tool. After adjusting my Acropora tank using the Apogee MQ-510 and the Acros weren't doing so well, I readjusted using the Parwise and had outstanding results. If you're using THE Apogee MQ-510 and you want 250 PAR, then adjust until the Apogee reads 350 PAR or close to it.

Par wise is better. Spectrum is what you want not par. Par is just a reference. Spectrum is what you needs. And par wise has it all. And it is cheaper.

PAR is still important. Spectrum is important as well, yes absolutely, but the right spectrum with too much intensity, or even not enough intensity (PAR) is still a problem! Most of the reef lights out there, even if they are controllable, will have appropriate spectrums for coral growth. That said, I do have a PARwise here, and it's pretty nifty! Been playing around with it.

Agree Thomas. I have a Parwise and an Apogee MQ-510. I've done many tests and find the PARwise to be a better PAR measurement and the Apogee is about 100 PAR higher always. I've been told that it is because the Apogee reads UV and the PARwise reads only to 400nm. PAR is absolutely important. Spectrum is not an accurate way to grow corals. You can still have a great looking spectrum and be at 50 Par, that isn't going to work.

I think what they are not accurate about is the "set it and forget it" idea about measuring lighting. LEDs dim, sometimes considerably depending on heat conditions, over time. The lights now a days are overbuilt to give you the ability to run at 60% output and get 300 par, but after a year or two they will need to be adjusted to reach that same par. Some spectrums of leds, like purple start failing considerably faster I have noticed, and they will "light" but they are so dim now that they are doing practically nothing. Furthermore, ideally you want to know the par levels when placing new coral, because you are not going to remember what the par levels are through out your tank a year later, especially true after things start changing from corals growing out.

Bought the MQ-510 in 2018. Well worth the investment IMO. It’s been used plenty since then… Especially if your like me and change the aquascape up here and there. Makes it nice to be able to map out everything par wise. Overlaying par numbers on a picture of the rock-work and sand bed is great for reference. Still on the original batteries that came with the meter. As much money as I’ve spent on coral over the years, it was no brainer for me. 😊 Never cared about par back in the early 2,000’s when I was using T5 lighting. Different story these days.

So I have 2 g6 xr15 blue over a 3ft wide by 2ft front to back and 2ft deep. Would you say that the par of these would be good enough for sps ie millepora, tenuis on AB+ setting?

okay the par meter rental is great BRS but you guys need to stop saying 10% restocking fee, it’s $100 that’s pretty much 20%. Honestly it’s great that you guys rent them out but $100 rental for a $500 product is really pretty insane when you compare what it cost to rent any other type of equipment. Especially for something that we’re going to need to use for 10 minutes and never again. You guys are absolutely profiting from it, it only takes 5 people to rent it to pay for it at retail price. How is that not profit?!

If you don't like it then just pay the $500 dollars for the unit instead then. BRS are doing a service that you'll struggle to find elsewhere. Either that or you start your own rentals of PAR meters and bring the price down theough competition.

I'd rent the 510 if you included the wand with it like you used to do when you had a true rental program. I'm not going to pay $100 + shipping both ways + $70 for a non-refundable wand I'll never user again.
