Star wars was ruined the day George Lucas started writing the script for the prequels. Star wars will always be the original trilogy for me, and that's an attitude I wish more fans would take. Enjoy the stuff you like, ignore what you dont. Cannon is truly a state of mind, and not worth anger. Don't succumb to the dark side.

I got sent home from the ER with a ruptured appendix. ER Doctor "You have an intestinal flu". I was back in there less than 3 hours later and the head of the ER dept came in to "deal with me". Pulled up the X-rays and CT scan that was done on my first trip and blurted out "how the hell did the Doctor miss this when you were here the first time?". The look on his face after he realized what he blurted out was priceless.

Both my cousin and I had similar experiences with crappy ER doctors. My cousin could barely walk from the pain in her stomach, and her right side of her right leg was swollen. The ER Dr at the hospital I took her to gave her a sonogram, Xrays, blood test, urine test. Sent her home after giving her fluids. Told her she had standard run of the mill stomach virus. Rest and fluids, bye bye. I got her home and she collapsed. Her shirt was wet around her navel. The puss was pushing out through her navel. She almost died and spent 13 days in the ICU. My experience was I was having chest pain and trouble breathing in deep normal breathes. I called for EMS and they told me I probably took Meth or Coke. NO NO NO. I don't do that!! They reluctantly took me to ER where they ran all kinds of tests, even a drug test and found "Nothing Wrong". I was probably in a state of panic. They gave me Zoloft and a sleeping med, sent me home. Luckily, my friend stayed with me. She called for EMS when she saw I was turning blue in the lips and felt cold to the touch. Turns out I had a valve in my heart that wasn't working properly and spent 4 days in ICU while they flew in a Cardiologist from Seattle to perform a procedure to correct the valve. Oh, yeah, just a panic attack.

My first apartment was furnished with a total of like 200 dollars, my secret: I drove by the rich neighborhoods of Austin early Saturday mornings and got every piece of furniture left by the curve, the 200 was for cleaning fees and such. And my apartment had good furniture too!

Paid $35 for our sofa at an estate sale. Hand built in North Carolina, hardwood frame, top-grain leather, msrp was $14k. It's more comfortable than my mattress. Got the matching chair for $25.

I'm for a flat 10% tax that goes to my state. The state will then send surplus to the fed. No returns, nothing beyond the 10%. If the government can't live with that, then they need to reduce their overhead.

My state - California - used to have a State+Local tax (total!) of 4% ... Which I know because in a used bookstore, I recently bought a pretty old paperback which had the original purchase hand-written receipt in it. From 1977. With wicked irony, the receipt was MY receipt with my name on it!!!! From 1977!!! I didn't remember even buying it. The point is, how exactly did California have quite good roads, a whole social infrastructure, schools, public works, all sorts of civic government, police, sheriffs, ambulances, fire departments, waterworks and all the Offing rest of it ... on 4% ... and somehow now, in 2024 is whining that 10.75% isn't enough? WTF people. WTF. Just saying. GoatGuy

Growing up in Jersey all my 16 yr old stoner friends (and me) smelled like gas ...Easiest job ever ...friends would come by and chat , strangers would give you a cold beer in the summer ...spend all day outside . Also we learned to run a business top to bottom at 16 ... Sadly we lost 2 friends to a robbery RIP Think before you speak

Same thing in Oregon. I stopped at the first station I came to and started operating the pump, then some teenager came running up to me and said, "Wait, you can't do that!" I told him I've been doing this for more than 50 years. He said, "No, I mean you aren't allowed to pump your own gas, here." I asked him, "Doesn't that make the gas more expensive?" He said, "No, it's included in the price." So I asked him, "Then where do they get the money to pay You? Do you work here for Free?" He was still silently standing there thinking about it as I drove off.

That wouldn't happen with my doctors here in NC. At check-in, they put a wrist band on me with my name and date of birth. Every different person I see asks me for my name and date of birth very first thing. Also, everyone I'm seeing currently already knows me, but they still follow the procedure. That cardiologist is setting himself up for a huge lawsuit.

Yup... They've priced themselves right out of their cush overpaying "no experience necessary" jobs...because after the initial expense the AI will work for nothing. 24/7 if necessary. With no breaks. A good example where it's seen Bigtime is in Automobile Assembly. In today's Auto assembly line, very few "Humans" actually build the vehicle anymore. It's all done by Robots. And the quality is much better too. So it's a Win-Win for them. And more companies are heading in that direction.

The last year we had silver money (1964) min. wage was $1.25 an hour, 5 silver quarters. The silver quarters are now worth $5.24 in paper, each. Min. wage would be $26 per hour. 18 yr olds would take that low paying job quickly. If a govt wants to borrow $10 billion at 10% interest bankers have it printed for almost nothing, but they don't print the $1 billion for interest.

Took a fall a year ago. Threw my right arm out to break my fall. Went to urgent care, they took 6 X-rays. Sent them to radiology at local hospital. “Bad sprain, where this brace till most of the pain goes away. Expect it to take 6 months to a year to heal because of your age.” A year later, different doctor, 2 X-rays, “Did you know you broke both bones in your wrist? Didn’t you seek medical attention? Wear this brace for 6 weeks or a week longer than the pain. You might need surgery.” 🤨 I want that $1500 back from the first place.

I went to urgent care and told them I had burning pain on my back. Took my shirt off, and I heard three gasps and a "GAWT DAYUM!" That's when I knew, this was gonna be pricey. People make videos to gross out people online for what I had going on back there.

I spent 10 hours at the ER only to be told, kidney stone and fatty liver. My fatty liver is genetic and doesn’t effect my health (I don’t drink). I was hurting where my kidneys aren’t but appendix is. Hope for the best! :’)

They could open a florist's shop and make a fortune. Everyday bouquets, weddings alone include wedding party bouquets, buttonholes, table decorations and church flowers. Funerals, weekly flowers for reception in large companies, hotels etc. The list is endless. Yes, this does sound like a Mickey Mouse degree but at least there is the potential to make money out of it unlike a lot of other degrees. Having said that, they could also just get a job in a well established florist's and learn in-house but maybe they just wants the university experience. Social media influencing? A no, no.

We had a young woman in our community that was was paralyzed from the waist down after a car wreck because the ER doctor was treating the abrasions on her knees instead of assessing her spinal injury.

Did that way back. No cushions, just the wooden stuff. All the furniture smelled of cigarette smoke but cleaned up good. I think I was the only guy at work that had a stereo that played 78rpm records!

Another reason why “you will own nothing and be happy”. In the near future, all books will be given digitally. That way, any words or ideas deemed “offensive” can be instantly removed/altered. The words is mightier than the sword. So they take away the pen.

I used the moving boxes as tables (put upside down and put a sheet over it) and our chairs were old bucket seats from an old Pinto . LoL 🤣. I used milk crates for clothing and shoe holders/storage. Cut up old pallets to make a bookcase.

To this day, I have never purchased furniture brand new, and I’m in my 60s! I just don’t see the point - there are so many good choices in the second hand world. Especially on Offer Up where I live. We have rich snowbirds that come here in the winter months and so many of them remodel every year and sell their current furniture so they can buy all new. You can find some amazing deals!

When I got married, we had all available colors represented by our appliances, a white chest freezer, a green refrigerator, a yellow stove, and a brown or bronze washer and dryer. Then the freezer died, and we replaced it with an almond upright freezer.

I was substitute teaching at a high school over a decade ago. The classroom had an electric pencil sharpener on a desk at the front and an old school sharpener tucked in the corner at the back. While walking the rows and lecturing on American history I stopped and cranked out at point on a pencil. When I turned around the room was completely silent as students stared in amazement as I examined the fresh point. “That’s what that for?” One student asked. “Old guy, old school technology.” I said and got a huge laugh. “We didn’t know what it was for.” Suddenly everyone wanted to try it.

sadly i went into the minute clinic thinking i had strep and it turned out i had another similar infection which they gave me steroids for which did nothing but f'd my immune system. A week later went back and got the same antibiotics they give you for strep that cured me.

I’m old enough to remember full service, I loved it, get a fill up and all your fluids checked twice a week. The degree skit really hit home. I have a bachelors degree in Medieval art. That New Jersey pumping gas clip reminded me of the time I drove to Oregon back in 2014 before they changed the law. It was surreal. They wouldn't let me pump my own gas. It's like having the server spoon feed you at your table in a restaurant because there's a law that prohibits customers from touching silverware.

I worked in a gas station in Oregon, and used to love it when out of towners would come through and try to pump their own gas. I would turn off the pump remotely, and they would get pissed. I would tell them that it was against the law, which would piss them off even more. Had one douchebag from california tell me, "nobody puts gas in my car but me!". I told him he wouldn't be getting much gas in Oregon then.

I went to the ER once with my little toe ripped almost 2/3rds of the way off and got almost the same thing until I held up my foot and grabbed the toe and demonstrated it to the doc. Her professional mask slipped a little and she actually looked astonished but hurried up and grabbed what she needed to stitch it back on!

Oregon has full service gas too. The entire country did when I was young. And when it changed, we got a 10% discount for self serve. Should be that way for self service checkout at stores. If we're doing their job, we should get a benefit for it.

Up until the sixties virtually all gas stations (service stations) had attendants that pumped the gas. In fact, they checked your oil, tires and filled your windshield washer tank after washing your windows. Again, every station.

Yes. It was a pleasure, not a task, to gas up. You told how much to put in, in money not in gallons, or just, "Fill it up." Then you watched the windshield get cleaned. They asked if you wanted oil/tires checked. Life was good.
