+Zip Scanners ...Actually, Whistler has only two people for Tech support, Brian & John, and neither of them can really be considered a Tech Support. They are just salesmen. Amanda answers the phone. Whistler has yet to design and patent one single scanner. They've made slight changes on the GRE Designed & Built TRX-1. Basically, they've crippled some features to make the other models. Eventually (hopefully) they will hire Designers, or when the few basic designs that they currently have, will age out, making it the end of Whistler. (They don't make any of their other products, they just put their name on them!) But then you guys at Zip, already know this, right? Thanks for the videos!

The Unidens can ALL be set up on ProSCAN! The Whistler with EZ Scan... The BCD325P2, is just an updated BCD396XT that adds P25 Phase II TDMA, and DMR and EDACS ProVOICE capabilities. The BCDX36 series adds all that, and is about to get NXDN update now that the SDS100 is about to hit. The TRX already has DMR, NXDN in it.

The TRX does have one additional feature that is superior to the 436. Both scanners can record, BUT the TRX time stamps each recording so that you know exactly what time that recording took place ! A great feature !

I noticed you only briefly mentioned the BCD325P2. Truthfully I really like that scanner. I am a Ham. I also did some radio programming at my job. I never found it hard at all to set up the 325P2 the way I want it set up. In fact I prefer to set a radio up the way I like it and I like to listen to the specific services I wish to hear. Although I know you can custom set up the the TRX 1 ( I customized one for work) and the 436 to your custom needs, i think that the zip code/SD database feature is really not necessary. Even with the DMR update, which I did to the 325p2, the radio was still 100 dollars cheaper than either the 436 and TRX2. But I wouldnt sell the BCD325p2 short.

I wish i had waited and bought the new uniden handheld. The trx-1 is not very sensitive. I recently purchased the beartracker 885 cb/scanner and the scanner feature picks up great. Think long and hard b4 buying anything from Whistler.

So even though the title page said handhelds and base units this was really a video only on handhelds.

You guys make a very compelling case for the Whistler. A couple of things you didn’t discuss though that would be nice to cover: 1) are the programming interfaces/systems different in terms of logic and design? I’ve been helping a friend with his TRX-1 and the system was clearly designed by an engineer of some kind without input from normal people. 2) the same question for manuals. Because of the way the TRX-1’s system is organized, the quality of its manual is critical - and I find it terribly lacking. Is the Uniden’s any better? 3) You showed that the Uniden has a 3x way knob on top but left out something critical on the whistler - their decision to make the volume a feature only accessible through the arrow keypad, and only under a specific mode... is unbelievable. 4) is the uniden any easier to program on the keypad than the whistler? In part because of the overall system architecture and organization, the whistler is extremely arduous to program on the pad. The software is better, but it’s documentation is lousy too. Based on the things you’ve pointed out, I WILL probably buy the whistler when the time comes. But it’s not at all perfect, nor really up to the design standards of other modern electronics. People should know that before spending the money. It’s a little surprising that another company doesn’t come and eat both of their lunches...

Speaking as soneone that has always backed law enforcement and have family in law enforcement, Doesn't really matter, until someone challenges the right to receive the encrypted Codecs for AES, etc., for the most part I will never get involved with helping local police, too much at risk to get involved, with many who don't trust the law abiding. I can say, since they took my right to know what goes on in my neighborhood away, by making my scanner just another useless receiver from the past by going encrypted. The local media has law enforcement radios but literally only report 1/50 th of the crime in my city that I used to be able to steer clear of and let friends and neighbors steer clear of. Unfortunately being a "good samariton" is different now, from a tactical day to day situation, in the major metropolitan city, it's just hard enough to keep myself and family protected from the flood of dirt bag criminals, this new attitude to hide communications from the law abiding has made getting involved in any way much less likely, it's that old adage, trust is a two way street. I will however be involved more with local, state and federal emergency management.

UNIDEN HOME PATROL II IS THE BEST SCANNER. The 436 is the worst especially in a car. You cannot view screen and any bumps will stop the scanner from scanning as that lever on the side of scanner gets activated. Not user friendly. It only has capacity to run on 3 AA batteries so they do not last long. It's the worst scanner I have owned.

My understanding, the base scanners have better sensitivity, is that true?

Hey guys!! I was considering buying a Uniden Bearcat125T handheld radio scanner, for monitoring railroad frequencies. There is a place in Massachusetts that sell Uniden scanners. This radio scanner I am buying goes for $130.00, w/$10.00 s+h. I am taking a train trip from Milwaukee to Seattle, on the Amtrak in 3 months. Can anybody help me. A few years ago when my county in Texas switched to digital I was told that digital won't pick it up because it is an encrypted signal. My county is Karnes County Texas. Mainly Sheriff dept. uses digital and I think the smaller cities are still analog. Basically seeing if I can buy a scanner that will work at my home.

Both of these scanners are absolute shit on P25 Simulcast. The only thing that works crystal clear for now is a Unication G4 or G5. (Actual popo radio works too but those are $$$$$) P25 performance is a deal breaker for me.
