I have to say the SDS-100 is a expensive scanner but as the old saying goes You get what you pay for and after many weeks of reading and searching I got it down to either the SDS-100 or the Trx-1 and it ended up the SDS-100 because my area is going to all simulcast for the Police and Sheriff so I purchased from Zip Scanners and will have my new toy on Monday, have already programmed a 32 Gb SD card for it and am ready to go. Thank you Zip Scanners for the great service.

I have had the uniden BCT15X for about the last five years. I need to update to digital so I am going to go with the whistler trx2 through zip scanners very soon.

I am full-time LE and part-time FF/EMT in a county that is on P25, Phase II, Simulcast system and you are correct that the TRX1 does not work on Silmulcast; however, the BCD436HP (and its counterpart BCD536HP) work just fine no matter where we are in the county, and no matter where which site we are the closest to. I am not sure where you heard that they do not do simulcast. I had a TRX1 and a 436 next to one another and the TRX1 only picked up 10% of what the 436 picked up. I personally own five 536's and two 436's and I use them every day primary on P25, Phase II, simulcast and I have not missed a police or fire call yet. .

A few questions: Did you test AORs? Your thoughts? I have an older - unblocked - AOR-8200. Aside from trunking, what am i missing that I could have with a newer scanner? I also have a BCT-596 (?) trunk tracking hand-held. I found it hard to use, due to complex on/off of banks. Same with my HomePatrol-1. I'm a pretty tech-savvy guy, but I miss my Radio Shack scanner which was also unblocked. It was easy to activate/deactivate banks on the fly. What's a good unit for use when traveling, to alert for "smokies?" I don't need a radar detector - found they tell ya too late. There used to be a "smokey detector" that listened for cops' radio emissions, I assume their TTY units, etc. I dn't see those on the market any more. Were they ineffective? They weren't for actually listening to transmissions, they emitted alert tones, as do radar detectors. Do you take trade-ins? If I get a good unit, I won't need the HP-1, Bearcat or AOR. My zip is 92586. I also visit 92104 and 90025. Thanks!

The SDS 100 isn't touch screen that I have seen on all other vids and the BCD436HP on a video I thought I saw showed in the menu were you can go into settings and make it charge while it is operating. Surely they wouldn't make a scanner that would not charge while you are listening to it. The radio Shack scanners came with two battery packs, one for rechargeable batteries and one for regular batteries. My Uniden Home Patrol drives me crazy by asking me if I want to charge it every time I plug it in but it charges while listening to it. Great vid though.

I saw this video, and I kept hearing the SDS100 from Uniden is a " Touch Screen " I have a SDS100, and it is a very nice color screen, but NOT a " Touch Screen " Unless I am missing something ? A " Touch Screen " to me would indicate that you can touch the screen to change features.....mine does Not do this. Perhaps I got a bad unit ? Can anyone confirm that it is a " Touch Screen "

One thing you don't mention is how loud the built in speakers are on these scanners. I use scanners in noisy locations and need to crank up the volume. My old BC200XLT is plenty loud. I'm in 98506 and the only digital police is the Washington State Patrol. Everything else here is still conventional analog, but there's a bill in the legislature right now to make all police, fire, and medic transmissions encrypted with no allowances for the press/media to listen.

BCD325P2 What are Its cons other than being hard to program?

I am very happy with my BCD325p2. I love continually learning more, and more, about it!!!!! The amber screen(when it finds a frequency) makes it visible in a dark room. The screens on the BCD436HP are too dark. Also, The buttons are too small on the BCD436HP. The Whistler TRX-1 looks like a kid's toy. The touch-screen on the SDS100, and its' size, would frustrate me. To the point of throwing it in the trash. I don't like the proprietary battery of the SDS100.

This is not meant to be a negative comment against ZipScanners, so please don’t take it as such. I bought the TRX-1 a year ago based on recommendations at the time from various sources. This scanner was a huge investment, but based on my research this scanner was the primo scanner. I thought it would be worth every penny. It does have many nice features, but I have to say I’ve been very disappointed in this scanner. Reception is often garbled and choppy. A lot of fine tuning and tweaking has improved things, but still a disappointment. Apparently I’m not the only one who has encountered these issues. It sounds like the TRX-100 will address some of these issues, but unfortunately I’ve already spent my scanner allowance money.

What is Phase 1 and Phase 2? Seems to me that cops would want encryption for several reasons, one being CYA (Cover Your Ass), another one they don't want people to know just how overstaffed they are. It could lead to "Defund the police." And maybe they don't want ambulance chaser type people following them around, going to crime scenes or Dunkin' Donuts.

The SDS100 is NOT a touch screen.. Nice scanner but not good for conventional analog stations.. Also, I noticed you skipped over the location of the SDS100 micro SD card.. I'm sure you did that intentionally, because when you open the battery compartment...the battery compartment hold down clip tends to break very easily.. Another downside of the SDS100.
