Hi everyone, we have gotten a lot of comments/emails asking us for printer recommendations or very specific usage questions. We are also working artists ourselves and don't have the knowledge and time to provide individualized recommendation to each person, so please understand that we can't reply to everyone. By sharing the information in this video for free, we hope it can at least help you narrow down your choices and save you a few hours of research. Thank you for watching!

Thank you for this video comparing the 2 brands. I have the Canon PIXMA Pro-100 and was thinking Epson’s inks were cheaper. This video was an eye opener, especially the fact that you can replace printheads on the Canons. I wish non-OEM inks were archival quality. Hopefully, someday those will exist.

I bought the Canon PIXMA PRO-200 and love it. The colors are beautiful and vibrant. Only wish the tanks were bigger. Keith Cooper on YT does a great job reviewing the Canon printers and his videos helped me choose the 200. The Canon Pr0 300 uses archival ink but the the 200 seems to make more vibrant prints on matte paper so I went for that for printing cards. Good video guys.

Hi nam / Cathy ☺️ Such a helpful Video as always! I have been watching your videos for a while now and I honestly don’t know where I would be without them, thank you so much for making such helpful, informative content for us all to enjoy! I just purchased the rotatrim M24 on your recommendation and I absolutely love it. :) I am also an artist (mostly watercolor like Cathy!) but I am visually impaired and completely colourblind so I can’t usually see the difference in print quality apart from paper texture etc. Because of this I mostly outsource my prints with a local fine art print house but I then have to sell those prints at quite a high price point as they are expensive to get printed and are gallery quality etc but I would like to also offer a range of more affordable prints of different simpler artworks that I can make myself in house and was wondering if you feel the epson ET 7750 (eco tank) is a Sufficient printer to make more budget friendly prints with? This is my current printer and I have done some test prints from high quality scans of my artwork on different papers (epson archival matte, presentation matte, Marrutt etc) and they have turned out great but I know the inks from the eco tank are not archival so would be worried about the longevity etc. I am considering investing in the p900 in the future but Until then, do you think prints from the eco tank printers are of sellable quality even if they are not archival etc? Thank you so much in advance for any advice / guidance you may be able to give! Absolutely love your channel it truly has helped me so much on my art & business journey. ❤️

i found this comment from a reviewer who uses this printer to sell prints so I think you will be good. Archival inks are only needed for prints that are gallery quality and you dont want to it to fade after 100 years. If you are trying to be economical and are starting off this should be fine. As you sell your prints keep an eye out for feedback re: your prints. My guess is that most people will not be able to tell the difference. Here is the review and good luck: "Im a musician who was looking for the highest quality printer that could output the most prints for the best deal - Im pretty sure this is it. I will be selling my photography prints as merchandise for shows. This is very close to if not actual professional quality photographic prints and I can print about 10,000 before I have to refill the tanks. The profit margin on $10 prints will be very very good. The initial cost for this printer is high, but if you look at this from a business perspective, its actually foolish to try and save $200 now only to spend $1,500 in ink cartridges in your life. Make the investment and get this printer if youre looking for outstanding quality prints and high volume output without worrying about ink running out every month."

Thanks for the video - lots of good info and things to consider. I could definitely tell you lean towards the Epsons! so at the end it made sense, when you said that's what you've always bought. The Canon inks are considerably cheaper from your info, and I like that the print head is replaceable. The one Canon with the dye based inks , I think I've read somewhere to stay away from the dye inks (clogs print heads or something? can't recall).

I'm a artist and work in a frame shop. Why is printing to the edge important? If its purely a aesthetic thing, I can understand that. However, given I see a ton of art come through our shop, having a image go straight to the edge doesn't benefit your customers when they get it to get framed. If the art is going to get a mat/border about 1/8-1/2 inch is going to get covered and if its just the art and no border, the lip of the frame of going to cover at least 1/4-3/8 inches of the image. Theres other ways to display the art but these are the most common/ easiest. Hopefully this gives an artist something to consider when printing their stuff.
@EasySundayClub
@EasySundayClub 2 жыл бұрын
I agree with your point of view. I don't think it's necessary to go truly borderless if the plan is to get the art framed, but I find that having a borderless printing option gives me more control over the margins.

Thanks for the video! I'm curious if anyone here has a recommendation. I'm looking to print on a "print" quality art paper, like cardstock thickness with a light texture, could even be a watercolor paper. I'm specially printing drawings with a few colors used, so they aren't full color photos, and don't bleed to the edge. I really only need something as large as 8 1/2 x 11. Any recommendations on a printer? Does something with archival ink matter in this instance, and if not.. what can one expect from ink quality after say, 5..10 years with non-archival ink jet?

The two first printers you mentioned on the cheaper side, the ink is not archival, but is it still alright and can last for a while? At what resolution does the difference become less noticeable for a print of a watercolor? I am under the impression that 600dpi is high enough print resolution for selling quality prints. Depends if that printer has archival ink cartridges for that particular printer. If u install refillable ink cartridges then u can fill it up with archival third party inks but would do research to see if that would clog or mess up the printhead or nozzles in any way. G luck

For ten years I designed and printed about 100 beautiful full color borderless encouragement cards per week for my church on my Dell Laser printer (on 80 lb card stock). That printer has died and I need desperately to repace it. When I first tried using an ink jet printer all those years ago, it was not practical to have that many cards drying at once. Are the cards you speak of here wet when they come out of the printer and do they have to sit out and dry before they can be cut? Also, I've heard that there's a problem with the ink jets if they're not used regularly and often. Also, that the ink is expensive? (My per card expense including card stock was about fifty cents each, including trial copies during the design process.) I've been looking for a replacement printer for several years that will print to the edge, but the newer ones can't be fooled into printing wider than the paper (they're too smart these days) and I've spoken to the people at Dell and Xerox and they had no solutions. Do you have any suggestions? We have many people not able to get cards now that I'm not able to print them. I'm desperate for a solution, so I hope you can help. Thank you!

Thanks for taking the time to give such detailed info! Will the mid range printers FOR SURE print on cardstock (say 130# cover - that's pretty thick), that is not hand fed? What is the max thickness you use and which printer do you use for that? Or what is the thickest you've heard of people printing (in a stack, not by hand) and on what printer? The last printer I bought, Epson xp-15000 (on your recommendation, LOVING your videos, thank you so much!) did not print cardstock the way I expected. It said it could print up to ... I forget the thickness, but it doesn't :( I have to hand feed each sheet and basically force it in, it won't take it if it's just sitting on the rear thing. Ok, sorry for the rant, but I say all that to say I REALLY need to find a printer that will FOR SURE take a *stack* of thick cardstock. I find that it's been incredibly hard to figure out if a given printer will actually do that - because the specs just don't really cover this aspect extensively. And it seems printing on 130# cover is very rare - er, most machines just aren't made to handle that thickness.

I just bought ET8550 and cannot for the life of me to make it print accurately. Unfortunately the ecotank is not consider professional printer so they do not offer as many ICC profiles as Surecolor as well as different paper brands don`t offer their ICC for the papers. So when I tried to print on a high quality fine art paper from my local shop, even with trying all the combinations possible, I cannot make it look half decent. And as printing reproduction of watercolor as you guys it is important that they look as reproduction and not completely different art. Going to try a bit more as the "eco" use of ink is truly tempting but maybe will have to return and switch to pigment dye based ink. It is a true science to get these things work for us artists isn`t it :D

I have the 8550 and and honestly, in photo quality settings, it's isn't any slower than the P900 or any of the other high end photo printers mentioned. I think for many people, the Ecotank 75xx/85xx was their first photo printer and they simply have the wrong expectation of what a photo printer can do.

I’ve been looking at the epson ecotank 2720/2760 for a while. I’m planning to use it mostly for stickers maybe some prints. I’ve seen some people using them for that and they seem to like it, but the only in depth reviews I’ve found didn’t really give the information I was looking for. Can anyone attest to the quality or possibly lack thereof. It’s more budget friendly and has the refillable ink tanks, both are features I’m interested in. Also if anyone knows what paper thickness it can handle that’d be great. Any thoughts or recommendations would be great.

We purchased a Canon PIXMA-Pro 200 to start a greeting card business. The art is watercolor so the paper selected was the closest to watercolor paper...Red River Aurora Natural 300. The prints were dark and muddy. After trying everything we could and spending over an hour with a Canon technical rep... and nothing improving the quality. The rep suggested a $300 upgrade to the Canon imagePROGRAF 300 because it used pigment based inks. The 200 were dye-based. But again, the prints looked exactly the same...dull, muddy and dark. I used the printer profiles for the paper from Red River. I was printing form Photoshop (previously I had tried to print direct from InDesign). I tried a smoother uncoated paper...and that looked exactly the same as well. Any suggestions to get more accurate color and not have to spend $800 for a printer that can't?

I know this wasn't the topic of your video, but as a parent who's teenager is interested in Printing their Art work. If you only have an old 3 in 1 Epson office inkjet printer (4 ink cartridge). Is it cost efficient and visually more impressive to have, say an 8 x10, digital art drawing printed at a Kinko's or Staples, versus purchasing a budget or mid-tier all-in-one (which I know you aren't a fan of) which everyone can use? Hope this question makes since. Thanks!

@@EasySundayClub I’m LOVING IT! print quality is great. It can take heavy paper. And I’ve printed maybe 100 cards and still have more than half of the original ink cartridges. My one complaint is that my yellows sometimes turn green when printing but I think that’s more of an error on my part when color correcting. But if I shift them to be a bit warmer everything works out fine. I decided to get the XP 15000 printer and the V600 scanner over the ET 8550 all in one because it seemed like the individual units were better separate than the all in 1. I was also a little worried about the print quality with the eco tanks. It was like splitting hair decided between the two for me.

Here are somethings you and other reviewers don't bring up. The Pro 1000 cant print thicker than 0.7mm. the P900 can print 1.5 posterboard. The new printhead for the Pro 1000 is $650-700 dollars and you need to buy new ink cartridges to fill it up. The Pro 1000 has now, from what ive gathered stopped being sold by Canon now. The Canon has a vaccum system ensuring no printhead strikes on the paper. The P900 has not, and is prone to printhead strikes.
