I've practiced to the point that I estimate I hit over a million shots in my time. I tried to turn pro in the early 2000's and I still have a lot to learn. The amount of data that's available today that we didn't have 20 plus years ago is insane. Adjustable woods, cheap launch monitors, hitting nets to turn your backyard into a driving range, cell phones being able to take easy video of your. So much more available now.

Great info. My takeaway is that ball position should be consistent and just right for target path and AOA to match.

I totally agree. Glad I couldn’t afford a lesson with this bloke, far too technical for me, surely he could have made it easier.

So what should we viewers do to putt well? Hit up, down? 18:47 . What if we don’t have a magic insert?

@@bigglesthwaite yeah it’s a taylormade spider. They have different variations so make sure to try it out before buying. They are really good putters. Btw I was kind of joking when I said to just buy a putter with a magic insert. Technique definitely trumps equipment. There are plenty of players that roll the ball great with putters that have no “tech” in them. I would argue that buying some putting lessons would help more than buying a new putter unless your current putter is an absolute horrible fit for your swing.

What's so important about angle of attack? Why is launch angle emphasized so heavily and yet it's never articulated why launch angle is important?

pretty sure toe strikes lead to pushes in putting. They lead to hooks in a normal club swing.

THIS is teaching. Learning cause and effect is how to master something. Golf is a very tedious, meticulous and specific game. By its very nature it's a super technical game there's no way to make it simple without it first being complex. It obviously gets simpler over time but the margin for error is so small that you can't just leave it up to feel and guesswork. Especially if you're trying to actually Master the game or close to scratch or something like that.

At the higher levels it is stat geeking. Mid amateurs are fighting for 2-3 strokes. Scratch and lower is fighting for fractions!

What’s with all of the name dropping and cursing. You’re a great putting coach but quit patting yourself on the back
@Masher-ls9mx

Yeah….. this was in my opinion, not that great……. If your putting arms, wrist, and everything is rigid you will come back to the same spot, putters have a 3 -5 degrees of loft( depending on brand) so…. Zero shaft lean and you’ll have 3 degrees of loft(example), now lean the shaft forward, and put the ball forward from your stance and you’ll be hitting up on the ball giving you zero shaft lean and 3 degrees of loft…. Whaaaaaat, you don’t need a computer to figure that out. As far as the two balls putting tip, if you swing around your body you will always produce a similar result, but if you putt in a some what shallow straight line, then it might give you good feedback.

Correct, you get the same dynamic loft by reversing the angles of your shaft lean and AoA. You're forgetting about the spin created from a negative AoA. Ideally you want your putts to start rolling immediately and not skip/hop.
@Masher-ls9mx
@Masher-ls9mx Жыл бұрын
That’s why the putter is designed with about 3 degrees of loft… to give you the ideal Angle of Impact, you shouldn’t have to add any shaft lean. choose a putter that feels comfortable in your hands, then as you improve, change the lie angle to your putting stance.
@toneybits
@toneybits Жыл бұрын
@@Masher-ls9mx Did we watch the same video? The instructor mentioned at the start that they could try a putter with a different loft, but the student wanted to check setup/swing first. We're talking a couple of degrees change in setup here. You're still missing the point of having an upward Angle of Attack (AoA). We hit down with our Irons (negative AoA) to create backspin. We hit up with our driver (positive AoA) to minimize backspin. Striking your putter with a positive AoA gives the ball a better chance to start rolling end over end, rather than skipping/hopping from a downward strike. I'm not sure I can explain the physics of it much better. You'll have to do your own research.
@Masher-ls9mx
@Masher-ls9mx Жыл бұрын
Like I said before, that’s why putters already have loft designs to them, Jerome was told to lean the shaft forward, then place the ball forward, that was redundant, also hitting down on the ball with irons is a big misconception, your actually increasing the angle of impact, as for the driver if you have a 10 degree driver and you hit it on the upswing then you probably hitting it like a 12 degree or so, your swinging around Your body in a circular motion, your hitting the ball on a downward arc/curve, your not chopping wood, why would you hit down on the ball?
@toneybits
@toneybits Жыл бұрын
@@Masher-ls9mx I thought you were serious until this reply and now I think you're just trolling tbh. Please research "dynamic loft" so you can gain understanding of how 2 swings with the exact same dynamic loft can produce widely varying trajectories. Let's take your driver numbers you presented. Driver with 10 degrees of STATIC loft. Delivered with perfect shaft lean at impact, with +2 degrees AoA, gives us 12 degrees of DYNAMIC loft. Now, say I grab a new driver with 14 degrees of loft, deliver it perfectly, but with -2 degrees AoA. This ALSO presents us with a dynamic loft of 12 degrees. Which drive will go farther and why? Have you ever used a launch monitor before? If so, which, and what does your driver clubhead speed/carry distance look like?

Around 20 mins in he talked about the putt being hit on the toe producing hook spin. So why did the ball curve to the right at the end?? Surely it was cut spin not hook spin… either that or there’s left to right break at the target (which I doubt). Confused 🫤
