Akumal, Mexico is a beach town known as the place of sea turtles. I spent a week finding the best beach bars, beach clubs, and restaurants in Akumal for you to enjoy after swimming with the turtles. We even went glamping for a night. Here are some tips for Akumal.
Natura Glamping: We stayed in a yurt in the jungle behind the town. I highly recommend spending a few nights here!
In town: I loved my breakfast at El Taco Maya, the carnitas torta at Taqueria de Palapa, and of course the wings and having with expats at Gilly's Tequilaville
Turtle Bay Cafe & Bakery: Although the sticky buns are certainly a star of the show here, this is probably the best breakfast near the beach
Beached Bikini: What isn't to love about a bar on the beach? You can even rent an apartment right above the bar if you'd like. Plus, they maintain a hatchery to protect the endangered sea turtles so every peso you spend here also helps a good cause.
Jungle Fish Beach Club: Its got a pool, a great view, and good cocktails. Need I say more? There was even an art exhibit by the owners of an art gallery who also run a Canvas & Cocktails night. Find them here at / canvasandcocktailsmx
