that robot is rubbish ... it is the design of a Chilean robot from 1980 ... they copied the transmission system and passed it through something new 2020... And also the air muscle and the contractile gel to electricity that now they pass it for something new and they spend millions of dollars and they were really invented by some school boys If you have a great idea and are a genius, you will quickly see that your ideas are stolen and another human appears with your idea and this guy will have a million dollar grant from the state to research ... but because they are thieves of concepts, the ideas can't move forward on projects ... they get stuck

Great job describing the different clever designs for the arms. I always love to see how these challenges are solved. I would suggest that you also take a look at some of the various prosthetic arms out there as well.

Discovered LIMS2 some time ago. IMO it's the most promising design out there and if the production and assembly could be simplified it would have a lot of potential as a commercial product.

I don't think LIMS2 can really do "high five" since it only has three fingers (according to the schematic) but "high three" :D

Nice video skyentific!!, :D the advantage is the number of movements of the first robot, but the rope mechanism makes it less precise and that it generates oscillations when the sea load passed, in my opinion

Halodi Robotics is the company. EveR3 is the robot. And the Revo1 direct-drive motors are what they use. What is interesting is the counter-tensioned synthetic rope-based transmission which is actually part of the motor itself

Thanks for another great video! I am learning so much from you. I have a general question (not related to this vid). What is "backdriveable" and why is it good and important? I assume it means "you can twist the joint or end effector that we're talking about and the force will transmit back through the transmission and spin the motor/source of torque" or something like that. Does it have anything to do with the elecrical system's tolerance of back EMF, or just the low internal friction of the system, or ??? Thanks!

Excelent very good investigation. Good reference to Blue is AR3 mabye. I thing 1-2kg of manipulation weight is relative enough for manipulating with object. Stronger start to be expensive especialy if you want to use 2 hand.

What do you think about haddington dynamics Dexter robot arm? Most of it is open source, much is 3d printed, high precision and it has force control. They have a very interesting position encoder by using FPGA to decode its data.

linear industrial motors from Siemens, for example, which run on skids, what do you think of them as robo-arm drives?

Do you need to order some kind of cable that is designed not to stretch, or do you just expect adjustments to keep the cables tight (which is reasonable for a hobby robot)? How much of an issue is stretch in cables?

I've always called LIMS by pronouncing it as one word rather than an acronym, like limbs but without the b. Also is there any benefit to using a cable drive, like Halodi uses, if you're not going to take advantage of a block and tackle pulley system, like LIMS2 uses? I would imagine that using a toothed belt would be more beneficial for transmitting power from pulley A to pulley B, or do wires provide enough friction for that not to be an issue, like how a rubber V belt works?

Very interesting discussion on how the different teams approached the challenge of building a robot arm. On a different note, I'd like to ask, Skyentific or people in the comments, if one could use ODrive, as any ESC, for applications such as e-bikes or quadcopters.

I've not heard of anyone doing it, thought I imagine you could do it, however it would likely be overkill in both price and processing power

Though I don't know of many reversible or programmable ESCs that can handle this high voltage and current at this price point (especially if one needs to drive a multiple of two motors). VESC are not very cheap either. Do you possible know of an alternative? :)

@@dempa3 I don't know too much about e-bikes, but for multirotors you don't really need something like O Drive, there are many fairly cheap ESCs you can buy that work well, unless you're trying to lift a huge amount of weight. I don't know too much about high-power ESCs though sorry :(

can you use bevel gears in robot arms? why are the not used more?

Of course, they use them a lot. Blue arm has nine of them. They don’t use worm gears in robot arms. Because worm gears are not energy efficient (you loose a lot of energy on friction).

I would appreciate clarification of a term used in your Art: "payload" I assume you mean the maximum mass that can be held and manipulated by whatever grasping mechanism terminates the limb, while the remainder of the limb can still move freely and without damage through its full range of motion. It would help put this in perspective if you included a ballpark "payload" for a healthy human limb with the same proportions. I hope to hear from you on this.

I was inspired by the designs of arms similar to LIMS2 and Halodi to get the weight of the arm away from the end. I put the elbow motors (small steppers) on the opposite side of the shoulder pivot to act as a counterweight then use belts to drive gear boxes and a belt drive differential elbow joint. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eKiqdKqE0ciomZs.html I was also inspired by the Barret WAM, which uses cables in a Swiss Joint, but I found that too difficult to build with 3d printed parts.

hi, brother, do you have old parts for sale to make an arm, I would like to build one ..it would be great if I could get a motor kit and servo etc.. without any other part.. just the electronics. under 1000$ I want to make a prototype similar to the gluon maybe a bit cheaper motors.? any advice for us all. just a link please brother, i will make an arm for the benefits of mankind. Robot with cable will give problems in the field if a cable should break. Cables like to break .

Конечно в качестве использования в дальнейшем такой робот имеет право на существование. НО Есть некоторые НО. Первое Данные роботы не очень груза подъёмные. При перегрузке система очень не стабильна . Второе не много задач в мире в которых нужно точное подобие руки человека. Проще разделить по операциям задание, сделать две или три операции но простых и понятных с подтверждением выполнения задания на каждом этапе. В быту и не только мы используем продукты которые имеют правильную геометрическую форму. ЭТО во первых удобно и практично, а во вторых это проще в изготовлении. Колесо имеет форму круга. Треугольное колесо ни кому не нужно!

You can just read LIMS as 'lims', not 'L-I-M-S' - that's what the developer (Prof. Yongjae Kim) calls it
