Brussels affair is in a class by itself. However, The Stones played two shows that day. It is the first gig that was recorded and used for the radio special and was bootlegged for decades. The official Brussels in the GHS box is made up of the second show with just a few tracks from the first and previously only existed on a so so-audience tape. So for collectors this is indeed a nice bonus.

Thanks for that great information. I didn't know the exact details, but funny that I knew it sounded different than Brussels Affair bootleg which I played to death. I thought I preferred the bootleg, only because I heard it so much for decades, but you confirmed it is in fact different performances. Nice bonus as you said. El Macambo is from Heaven. The band is on fire. Lineup Billy Stu Ollie It’s aOnly Rock and Roll is a stand out for me. Micks vocal on Worried about You is so perfectly flawed. It’s brave and versatile one of my favorites from side 2 ❤tattoo you. Okay top 3 are no question beyond great. No need to rank them. Reverse Blues/ Brussels 73 You can’t always get what you want. Mic Taylor’s performance brings me to tears. Great list thanks

Hi Alan. I just found your channel. Tremendous presentation. To me, Ya Ya's is the Best followed by Mocambo. Your collection is so thorough it is incredible. I never liked "Got Live if you want it." But there are cool tracks to be found on each item. I always liked "Street Fighting Man" version on Stripped. Thanks - this is a virtual checklist to get a proper collection!

Your collection of live Rolling Stones albums really blows me away! And your seemingly endless knowledge about ALL the albums (without so much as a cue card) is nothing short of amazing. I think there are many excellent/really good live Stones albums. I’ve heard a lot of the band’s live stuff, of varying degrees of sound quality, but there’s more that’s left for me to still explore. First on my list to check out is “Brussels Affair (Live 1973)” because “Goat’s Head Soup” is probably my third favorite Stones album, following “Sticky Fingers” at #1 and “Exile on Main Street at #2. As much as I love listening to “El Mocambo 1977,” it still comes in as my second favorite live album after “Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out!” Unlike what is the case for me with several other bands, I still enjoy listening to The Stones’ early records, every now and then, which is why “Got Live If You Want It” finds its way to my ears on occasion. I suppose that like most other fans, I gravitate to the live albums that cover the tours I’ve seen, and I’ve seen “just about” every Stones tour that’s come through the tri-state area since 1975. Like you, I think “Love You Live” is a fun listen. When it comes to most of the bands I’m into, I “almost always”prefer studio recordings to live ones. With “a very few” exceptions, I never feel that the live versions capture anything close to what it was really like to be at the concert. I do think that many of The Stones’ live releases are among those very few exceptions of at least making the live experience perceivable by one’s mind.

Thanks so much and a great comment which I didn't mention. I LOVE live albums, but most don't compare to the studio albums or capture that true live experience. I still enjoy Ya Ya's, Love You Live, El Mocambo and Brussels as much as the great studio albums (when I'm in the mood for live albums) and that's a rare feat. Hi Alan . I always enjoyed the 1981 tour . I was at the first gig in Philadelphia on the 25th Sept. No sax player and a bit sloppy but one hell of a good time . Since then I’ve been collecting as many ‘81 shows as possible. So far I have 36 shows mostly in stereo thanks to DAC records. Nothing like the entire show with no overdubs and excellent sound. Love your channel.

Thanks so much. I thought I loved the Stones. 36 1981 shows! Wow. That opening night in Philly had some extra songs they dropped. I have a boot of it as well, but not good quality. Mona was on it. Cool you were there. Something like 90,000 people per show and they played two if memory serves. That must've been some scene. I have newspaper articles and pics from it. JFK Stadium. Anyway, thanks so much - I really appreciate it. See you in a week or so.

Have been working my way through all your Stones videos and enjoying them very much...For the live work I think the Marquee Club Dead Flowers performance is absolutely killer. Each member blends together to serve the song and drive it to the next level. Particularly Mick Taylor's lead line is tremendous. His lead work is like another vocalist in the band. Never sounds like they are pausing for a lead solo rather his playing adds so much here.

Thanks so much for watching them - I really appreciate it. And your comment - awesome. As you know, the Mick Taylor era is my favorite of the Stones. That whole Marquee is such an interesting a different performance. I first bought it on bootleg vinyl in the 70's and then eventually got a bootleg VHS of the performance. Keith famously swung his guitar at Harold Pendleton's head at some point off screen. Up until the No Security tour, it was the only live performance of I Got The Blues, so was a bit special. And of course the small stage and filmed for TV makes it different. But yea - that is a great performance of Dead Flowers. Just a wonderful melodic lead guitar flow from Taylor. Awesome as you said. Very well-done, comprehensive and informative. Bootlegs are what diehard fan wants yet at least we get a lot of variety here. Note: Get...Out! is notorious for studio trickery, obvious by watching MSG footage (Gimme Shelter/online) plus comparisons with other shows on legendary '69 tour. Personally think of great record as re-doing their material in a controlled environment, similar to all studio product. Appreciate your good work all the same!

We all know, or we all should know, that virtually all live albums (there are a couple of exception - Dire Straits Alchemy is one) have edits, overdubs etc. They are live records, but they are records. If we want pure unadulturated live recordings, that's why we love bootlegs. But I do think that Ya Ya's is by far the Stones greatest live album. It's pretty much perfect.

Live at Leeds (1970) is an exception. They did some backwards trickery on magic bus yet fixed it when putting cd together!

Great review Alan...you know, like you, I am old enough to remember that there was a time when Rolling Stones live albums were few and far between--I remember the excitement I experienced in high school when a friend procured for me a vinyl copy of Garden State 78--at that time, the only official live releases from the Stones were Ya Yas, Got Live and Love You Live--So I was most grateful--and that show remains one of my favorites to this end. However, in the last 20 years, the market has been flooded with live Stones releases, be it the From the Vault series, or the now common 2CD/1DVD format of individual shows--and yes, though I enjoy most of them, they can take on an interchangeable quality. And like you, there is no question that Ya Yas is their greatest live release, and in my opinion, the best live rock album ever. I first heard the album in high school, and was literally blown away--the power, mystery and myth of the Stones ethos was perfectly encapsulated in those 10 performances. Often times, these performances are better than the original studio releases, since they are tougher and more stripped down. Unlike some critics, I don't think the power of those performances has dimmed much, and yes, what we go was far from the full shows of the '69 tour. But in some ways, its better that way--there is a compactness and directness that is missing from many of the "full shows" I've heard in bootleg form, including the ones from the Garden where this was recorded (save for Love in Vain, I guess). In fact, it benefits from the same quality that makes The Who's Live at Leeds so great--the directness, hard hitting quality is more apparent in the shorter set, more so than if you hear the same songs in the context of the whole set list. But, as we all know, the same approach cannot be said for Still Life, Flashpoint, Stripped, No Security--none of which do anything to capture the feel and scope of those tours and shows. Funny how that happens, but that may be a testament to the visceral impact the Stones had in 1969, as opposed to 1981 and beyond. Still Life and Flashpoint were particularly lame--at least we got Going to a Go Go, which was a summer of '82 staple in my life--but the rest of it was pointless, especially considering the quality of many '81 soundboards. At least they corrected the boring Stripped with the impressive Totally Stripped, which were all great shows in my opinion. And btw, weren't they a little late to the (thankfully) now defunct Unplugged crap? I mean, I long to hear them do a legitimate acoustic blues set in their 'b-stage' setup, but it never happens. The last time I saw them (Soldier Field '19), I almost expected it, being on the heels of Blue and Lonesome, and in Chicago no less, it would have been perfect--but all they did was Sweet Virginia and Play with Fire...I think. I must say, I do wish they would be more definitive with the stuff they do release--why could we not get the full London Roundhouse concert, instead of the four song tease on Sticky Fingers? It was an outstanding show, in my opinion. I'm glad we got the full Marquee Club, and, at long last Brussels Affair--which I'd stack up against any rock band live show, past and present. As for Ladies and Gentlemen, never bought the official CD release--in part because with the official DVD, I didn't think it necessary, and I have a large amount of '72 soundboards that are very good sounding--so I cannot comment on what is wrong with the official release you highlighted. I too was thrilled that El Mocambo got a stand alone release, as it was always my favorite part of Love You Live. I wonder if it is 'complete' though--I mean, didn't they play there for two nights? I think the official release is more complete than the bootlegs I have, and the performances are great--they are at their ramshackle best, and it's great to hear tunes like Worried About You, Dance Little Sister and others done up better than their studio versions. I have also wondered if the long overdue release of BBC Sessions is complete--I'm referring to the 2CD yellow jacket (another terrible cover...seriously, the bootleg Beat Beat Beat at the Beeb had a better cover sleeve--and have not really compared what was contained there to my other unofficial copies--but those sessions laid in neglect for far too long. For instance, the inclusion of the great live tracks on the GRRR mega deluxe over priced box? Those tunes were BBC performances, and well worth hearing for any Stones fan. Why tuck 4 of them on some nearly $200 box set, when you could compile and release pretty much all of that stuff in a single 2 or 3 CD volume? I could go on, but thanks for your time, and your great content, and your insights! I really wish they would take advantage of their library in their live shows more, especially these days. I mean, what do they have to lose?

Your comments are so amazing. We're so on the same page, but you expand so well on my feelings. I greatly appreciate them. Like you, up to 1981, we had three special Stones live albums - all so different, and pretty perfect for their respective eras. For me, nothing comes close to Ya Ya's, even to this day, as you said. For Ya Yas is the 2nd greatest live album ever, FCA is the greatest IMHO (I do a whole video on why), but every song on FCA is improved over the original studio recordings, and that makes it truly definitive. With that said, Ya Ya's also almost does that. I prefer the live versions of Stray Cat, Street fighting Man, Midnight Rambler, Love In Vain, Carol over the originals which is incredible. Of the live album since, as you said, none are definitive - they're just fun listens of really good performances. Except El Mocambo which is really special. Brussels is fantastic and an all time favorite, except I still prefer my original bootleg which is different than the official release. What a performance though. Wiltern is really great. The totally Stripped boxset with the three club shows are incredible and I really enjoyed the Stripped album when released - some great stuff but they missed the boat with the whole Unplugged at that time - if they joined the boat, could have been bigger. Like you said, the bootleg BBC Stones stuff I found great, by the time they released it officially, was a non-event for me and most others. Flashpoint was just lame considering what an amazing tour it was. There were some great deep tracks played on the tour - virtually ignored on the album though I love High Wire to death. I actually really enjoy No Security, but again could have been so much more. How on earth they destroy Memory Motel by including the Dave Matthews duet (I can't stand him) literally ruining one of my favorite songs of all time and it's only official live appearance really. Always fun "speaking" with you.

Obviously, I am more than a little biased when it comes to Ya Yas, and anything related to the Stones, so perhaps I am guilty of being less than impartial. That being said, the 70s, as you know, was a tremendous time for live albums--and perhaps the two greatest reasons were Frampton Comes Alive, and Kiss Alive, not only because they were both huge smashes, but because each of those releases catapulted the respected artist to superstardom status, seemingly overnight, and neither with huge chart success prior to those breakouts. It was a very exciting time. Obviously, Ya Yas far predates any of that, and as I recall, part of the reasoning behind the release was to stem the tide of bootlegs from the '69 tour--thankfully for us, at least we got this release.

@@TheAlanRosenbergShow If I may, one more thing about Ya Yas...the "40th Anniversary Box"??? What a massive disappointment. All we got was a measly four extra songs, everyone one of them were on the Criterion edition of Gimme Shelter, no less. And then they give us a second disc of....Ike and Tina Turner? BB King??? Taj Mahal???? Who cares. I was so angry at that, I sold my copy of it a long time ago, shortly after getting it, no less. And I don't care if the 'original' intention was to have a double album featuring all of those other artists. Thankfully, someone along the line said no to that bad idea. I mean, these were opening acts....I don't want to listen to any of that, and if I do, I can go to their releases. Oh, and speaking of From the Vault....doesn't Knebworth '76 deserve the official treatment? The videos I've long seen are not complete of middling in quality. However, the soundboard sources of the show are very good--why don't they have the good sense to give that a proper release, rather than coughing up another pay per view with some boring guest spot of Sheryl Crow, Dave Matthews or even Springsteen, gyrating around???

But in those days, The Stones didn't play long so weren't missing too many songs beyond Ya Yas - but they could've added to the one Cd instead of another disc with the bonus tracks - a waste really. The biggest disappointment to me is the shows were professionally filmed for Gimme Shelter. How on earth have those shows not been released on DVD / Blu-ray - talk about the Stones in their prime. The footage from Gimme Shelter is fantastic - I want the whole show and it's out there somewhere. Ridiculous - that could've been in the boxset. Regarding Knebworth I have two DVD versions and as you have two complete show bootleg CD's. We've all heard it wasn't their greatest performance - but it was the longest at that time. Some cool deep tracks were revisited, but for me - perhaps would work in a boxset with the official Paris DVD performance, which is a really good bootleg DVD as well. Perhaps they can do a huge deluxe Black And Blue reissue with the original jams, unreleased tracks and some live DVD's / CD's like Knebworth and Paris - just a thought. Could work. Some amazing guitar players were jamming with The Stones at that time.

I actually prefer many of the Ya Ya's tracks over the studio recordings. Midnight Rambler #1 - the studio version doesn't compare to the live version (hence it on Hot Rocks as well). I also prefer Ya Ya's Love In Vain, Live With Me, Stray Cat Blues, way over the studio versions....hell even Street Fighting Man to an extent. Thanks.

Excellent overview of the live Stones releases. I have many of the ones reviewed, though not all. I did buy the Live if You Want it album and also have the EP version. Get Your Ya-Yas out is the standard to compare all other live Stones albums. I have a bootleg of their Oakland show and it's really amazing. It was called Revolution '69, but really it's the Liver' Than you'll Ever Be on CD. I wish they were able to release more of the '69 tour, but that will never happen since ABKCO owns all recordings pre-1971. I do have a bootleg copy of the 1978 Passaic, NJ show. Mick has a few funny lines which cracked me up the 1st time I heard them. The '78 Texas show had Mick flub the opening lines to Let it Rock. In the video, you can see when he messes up, he turns to Keith. Keith smiles and shakes his head.

Yes Liver' Than You'll Ever Be is a classic - many different versions of it - most missing Jumping Jack Flash opener. Love the Passaic '78 show. Originally had two different vinyl boots - Out On Bail and In Again Out Again. Now have the complete show on bootleg CD. Great one for sure. Thanks!

@@TheAlanRosenbergShow One thing I do like about the Liver' Than You'll Ever Be is they do a live version of Gimme Shelter, which they bagged after a couple of shows. Also they did the 3 verse version of Honky Tonk Women as opposed to the later shows when they sang only 2 verses.

@@TheAlanRosenbergShow The Gimme Shelter I found out by reading the setlist for the '69 tour. Gimme Shelter was dropped early on. Maybe without Merry Clayton singing with Mick sounded a little flat, so they decided to drop the song (my opinion, of course). I prefer the early Stones where it was just the band with Ian Stewart on keyboard/piano. Chuck Leavell has been their goto keyboardist for the past 30+ years. He has achieved that rare status of co-credit on a Stones song. That's how much they appreciate his talent. On a last note. Not sure if you've viewed the video of the L.A. Forum 1975 (archive series). I've read the CD concert is not the one on the video. The video concert has Mick messing up lyrics on a few songs. I haven't viewed the video, but have listened to the CDs. Obviously, I can't confirm or deny the veracity of the review.

@@noahbody9747 I had that LA concert on bootleg VHS for decades - was pretty poor quality. So was excited when they officially released LA Forum Live In 1975. I remember thinking there were some differences when watching the DVD, but who knows, obviously was cleaned up and memories are not accurate. I listened to the CD's twice and watched the DVD once. All their Archive releases are cleaned up and slightly different than the original raw versions. The liner notes are as usual, not well done, without much real detail. Only says Saturday July 12, 1975. So I can't confirm or deny either though I've certainly read there are differences and may be a mix of the five original Forum shows. compared to other major artists' reissues and archive releases, the Stones are fairly light weight in information and depth in my opinion.

I bought them when they first came out - Still Life at local record store (I still have local record stores here on Long Island). Also find them at record fairs / show. And also flea markets and estate sales.

Was thinking, after watching your ranking the Stones in the 60's video (last of the set) that it would be cool to see your ranking of the Stones live albums ... well "seek and ye shall find" ! ..... I have the CD versions and DVD, BluRay versions of many of these and a few others not on CD (e.g. I routinely take an audio signal out of the DVD / BluRay player into a digital interface into Audacity to make great audio versions of those concerts that are not on CD) ... the ones I play most are the El Mocambo set, the "interesting" Love You Live (1970's) tracks, the "Some Girls" tracks from the live DVD and also the Copacobana set ... for info - the latest BluRay version fixes the crappy sound drop out on the opening track that was on the previous DVD version (I went nuts trying to balance out the stereo mix when I was making my audio copy .... now you get the 2CDs as part of new set .... and a show from Salt Lake City on an extra BluRay) ... I also like the recently released GRRR live set ... also have audio copies of the BBC shows from Wembley (London) in 1990 (Urban Jungle) and Hampden (Glasgow) (fantastic) on Bigger Bang tour ... and the BBC aired audio from Glastonbury in 2013 ... I'd like the Stones to continue mixing things up when they do shows and have the conviction to play many more songs from the 80s, 90s, and Bigger Bang eras ... as you pointed out in your videos, there are many amazing songs in there .... oh, and a smoking version of Time Waits for No One would be great .... I'll need to give Ya Yas another go (I find the recording too raw for my taste ... maybe I need the volume turned up) ... Cool video once again ... CMcG, Aberdeen, Scotland .... p.s. and, on your, and others', advice, I'll also need to have another go at Exile .... just havn't "got" it (been trying for years) ... Goat's Head Soup, Sticky Fingers, Some Girls, Bridges to Babylon, Bigger Bang, Emotional Rescue, Undercover, etc etc ... they all work great for me ... but I need to re-visit Exile (again!) .....

That sounds really cool how you kind of create your own CDs, remixing etc through Audacity. I'm fairly illiterate with this stuff. As you know, I don't even edit my videos....lol. All live, no scripting. Same with my music. I just buy the stuff...lol. Maybe you can fix the worst edit of all....Rocks Off on Live Licks...lol. You have such amazing taste...funny that you can't get into Exile. Perhaps start with side 2 - the acoustic side with Sweet Virginia. Fantastic acoustic Stones. Then maybe rock out with side 4. And after you love that - you'll start to dig sides 1 and 3. But don't forget Let It Loose on side 3. You'll get it eventually. It has a well deserved reputation, but it's not immediate.

22:51 Was at this 1978 small hall concert. I don't remember the mix being as clean as the DVD/CD but it is one of their best shows in 1978 (I've listened to all the tour bootlegs). Some Girls was released a day before the tour began and they played seven songs in a row from it in the middle of the set, a faux pas on the Stones' part. I'd listened to it daily for a month so I was at least familiar with the material. The two Chuck Berry songs are especially good as are the three songs from Exile On Main St. Star Star has a two verses not on the studio version because Steve McQueen and Jimmy Page's attorneys might've not found them amusing. While the Stones were busy naming names they should've played Claudine too.

Amazing that you were at that show. I've never seen the Stones in a small theater. They did film that show with the idea of releasing it - but they shelved it till this official release. I also have many bootlegs from the '78 tour. What a mixed bag that tour was. But seems like you were at one of the hottest shows of the tour. The King Biscuit boots from that tour also are blistering, as is the Capital Theater show (Out On Bail and In Again Out Again). The stadiium shows didn't seem to compare to these smaller shows, though the technology wasn't quite there yet for those immense stadium shows. Thanks.

I saw the Stones play two shows in one day in 1972, also in Ft Worth and filmed (Ladies & Gentlemen The Rolling Stones). Those were indoor shows with controlled acoustics too, even with today's technology no outdoor shows for me. But I'll be the first to watch them do a 12-minute version of Midnight Rambler someone videoed on their phone in Brussels two nights ago. Viva la technology.

Taylor and Jack Bruce formed a band then with Bruce Gary, the great drummer who'd be in The Knack two years later. Have you read Bill Wyman's Stone Alone? It rants a bit, but I believe it more than any autobiography by a Rolling Stone. Regardless of turmoil within the Stones their 1978 small hall show is a Top 3 concert of all the shows I've seen in my lifetime. I was just old enough to see all the classic rock bands (starting with Zep in 1969) and too young for Vietnam. The most famous names weren't always the greatest acts. Who'd think seeing Hendrix from the front row in 1970 would be the single biggest concert disappointment ever? At least Mitch Mitchell ensured it wasn't $6 totally wasted. The Who (second row 1976) played together as a unit unbelievably well, almost as good as Zep in 1973 (the other top 2). Rush in an almost empty hall in 1977, a magical Johnny Winter concert in 1978 and ex-Zappa stalwarts Missing Persons in 1982 were equally good. I flew alone to L.A. without a ticket to see the Floyd put on their second of seven Wall performances; it was more like a Broadway musical than a concert. I'd've rather seen Animals in 1977. Forgive my rambling, I'm a babbling old man!

Keep up the Stones videos, Alan!! Yesterday on the car radio I heard what I thought is a new , at least to me, Rolling Stones song. It sounded like the music they were making on The Bigger Bang album, so it might be something I’ve heard but have forgotten. I am old, having been following the Stones since they first came to the US, 1964 or 1965. Anyway, the lyrics seemed to include lines about “walking a fine line” and “sending men to the front lines.”Does that ring any bells?

Thinking it might be "Highwire" which was one of two new studio tracks on the Flashpoint live album, which came out in 1990 (from the Steel Wheels) tour. I LOVE that song (if in fact that's the one). I'm glad I lived long enough to get the El mocambo show ..I thought it would never get released ..you're right about the live licks CD something is quite off..I wanted to love it ..I would say my other two favorites besides El mocambo are the 81 Hampton Roads Virginia and the LA 75 tour it's funny cuz the only live show I don't have officially released is the Copacabana show also probably will get it someday ..however as a kid though ..yeah I wore out get your ya-yas out I learn to play guitar from that album.your right.. Ronnie seemed to come alive on Love you live. I don't have Brussels affair except on bootleg somewhere.. but bad quality as I recall.

The Brussels affair bootlegs I have are perfect quality (believe they were radio broadcasts?). I actually prefer my original bootleg to the Stones released version - they are different. The Bootleg I have is called Brussels Affair 1973 on Chamelion Records. Amazing. Yea, I'm missing Copacabana because I already have in the DVD box and the new Live Licks I have from the TV broadcast. But I'll get them eventually too.

I love the 72’, Ladies and Gentleman, The Rolling Stones. Musically they are on fire!!! I also like Live at the Marquee Club. Obviously, Get yer Ya Yas out is legendary! From what I’ve heard of The Brussels Affair I think it’s spectacular. Also, Love you live is great too.

I remember when I got the Marquee Club on bootleg decades ago. I was so excited, but was initially disappointed. A strange performance. I was so happy when they finally officially released it with the video of it. But it's not a performance I listen to alot. For me the highlight was having an official release of "I Got The Blues".

I really smiled from ear to ear when I received El Macambo in the mail (CD and Vinyl) but once again, someone in that band takes our their historical scissors and what do you know, the Rolling Stones once again apparently didn’t have a bassplayer in 1977. I want to love the Stones anno 2023 with all my heart, but that constant elimination of Bill Wyman from their history rubs me all but the right way! Sorry, I love Bill. He is such a cool cat.

I couldn't agree with you more...It's astonishing. Musically El Mocambo is fantastic, one of their best live releases ever. The packaging, in the CD, was lacking (I paid alot for the CD). The elimination of Bill Wyman was unforgivable. And like you said, they keep doing this. What gives? I don't understand it. Disgraceful though.

@@TheAlanRosenbergShow My money is on Mick Jagger who has been known to re-write history when it suits him. Brian Jones role in the Stones have been reduced by him several times and Bill have come to the defence of Brians legacy. He was also close to Mick Taylor, again something one person may have been annoyed with. Also I think he wouldnt forgive Bill for not wanting to stand around watching Micks gradually sagging behind prancing in front of him. I’d be less inclined to think Keith is the reason, as his memory seems fractured to say the least, however, he was the most vocal and seemingly upset about Bill leaving the band. But then again, he was furious about Jaggers solo albums but never seem to have bothered with Bill Wymans solo albums, so it’s hard to pinpoint. The worst example is Rarities 1971 - 2003 where the cover photo is a previously released photo of the band (40 Licks) with Bill simply erased from history (he stood behind Mick and Keith). In the Tattoo You book you barely see him standing in the background in some of the live photos and equally so in several other later releases. I think also you can read into his bitterness over how he was ultimately treated at the 50th anniversary show he played with the Stones in London 2012. He only got two songs, with Darryl still playing and he did not get to play with Mick Taylor at the Newark show. I’ve seen him interviewed about it later and he just seems like he is glad he won’t have to be further upset by them. I just wish they would treat his legacy with respect and be happy for the wonderful life he managed to get for himself after he left.

@@MortenAastad you covered a lot. But I’ve no idea who’s responsible for the artwork situation with Wyman. So many fans have been upset about it but never any comments from any of the band members. They’re all responsible to me. But running the band always falls on Jaggers shoulders with the other band members of course enjoying the financial rewards. Keith especially talks out of both sides of his mouth. They’re my favorite band by far but I probably wouldn’t want to hang out with them. It’s clearly a viscous business.

@@MortenAastad Lol. I have all the Virgin CD's, and they're by far my favorite Stones (Rolling Stones records) releases. I also have them all re-re-remastered on the Universal releases which came after, but they were mastered so loud...The Virgin to my ears are so superior. I have Sticky Fingers, Exile, Goats, IORR, B&B,Some Girls, Emotional Rescue and Tattoo You in the collector's versions - so awesome. The rest were normal releases - Undercover (sounds awesome!), Dirty Work, Steel Wheels and then of course Voodoo, Bridges which were new releases at the time. Don't know why they didn't do Undercover or Dirty Work (well maybe we do, as they weren't exactly huge hits or critic favorites, though I love Undercover). So I don't know...but love those Virgin releases. You're only one away. That's awesome.

They keep focusing on the live Archive releases - I haven't gotten the last two - Copacabana and GRRR Live. Reason being is I already have them in other forms. The live stuff is really good, but they've been focused (with the exception of El Mocambo) on the latter day Ron Wood shows, with very similar set lists. It's nice you get the DVD and the CD's but I listen and watch them like once and file them away. I wish they'd dig in the earlier stuff - tons of great Mick Taylor era they can release but they haven't. They haven't said anything about another deluxe reissue -like Sticky Fingers, Exile, GHS and Tattoo You. I've bought them and they look great, but musically, I find them pretty much underwhelming compared to other groups deluxe reissues. Also I have tons of bootleg outtakes and these deluxe reissue outtakes have so many new overdubs and mick's new vocals, that I seem to prefer the original boots better.. We'll have to see. I'd imagine it wouldn't be IORR though. The deluxe reissues haven't sold so well and IORR is one of their lowest selling 70's albums - though I love it. Thanks.

Don’t know for sure but they do that. Seems like they make a tight film for the general public with very popular songs. Then throw on bonus tracks. On Sweet Sumner Sun Hyde Park, the most interesting songs to me,especially Emotional Rescue, were bonus tracks.

They were good friends. Had played together already. Played and contributed to Woody's first solo album and took It's Only Rock n' Roll from jam session there and gave him and contributed Sure The One You Need and Act Together for Woody's album in exchange. Personality wise, looks wise and playing similar to Keith was what they were looking for.

Over the years, there's been some question that not all of it was recorded at MSG. Not easy to tell because there are overdubs on Ya Ya's like every live album (well 99 % of them). Cliff Bungalow is saying Love In Vain was recorded in Baltimore. Doesn't really matter to me.

Yes, live 69 is great. AND I think Get Yer Box set is the best album box set of a Rolling Stones album. You get the rest of the setlist and a DVD with footage not included in Gimme Shelter... and in true 5.1. Which GS is not... Still I prefer L&G and Brussels. Pure gold. Voodoo Lounge live is also very good. PS The bonus DVD from Tokyo on Steel Wheels Live SD is not the same- not the same night, BUT the video is VHS quality (sounds great though). Bob Clearmountain. Did he remix the L&G CD? Strange stereo. Bootlegs have normal stereo.

I didn't go for the super deluxe Tokyo with that bonus DVD. Regarding L&G CD - it's mind boggling how such a great performance can sound so flat on this CD. I have bootlegs of the 72 that are a much more enjoyable listen. And the CD booklet only shows credits for song publishing. The back of the CD has credits for photos and sleeve design. There is no producer or mix credits listed. Perhaps no one wanted their name on this disappointing release.

I've heard all of the Rolling Stones live albums. Nothing tops El Mocambo 1977. Best mixed live record in their catalog ( they turned up Charlie Watts) and the song selection is outstanding. The others that are great are LA Forum 1975, Brussels Affair, Some Girls '78 ( the Capital Theater is probably better) Stripped and San Jose '99 ( Out Of Control on No Security is the best cut on that record ). On a personal note, I have never been a big fan of the duets with the band. It's just not for me.

@@stone4173 It's definitely a very different Stones. One of the great things about live Stones is that every tour is very different. You can tell just from listening from which tour it comes from , up until the last 15 years or so - the recent tours have pretty much been the same thing over and over again. Now without Charlie, it's very different. We will see what happens in the future.

Also, Live from Perth (Australia)…sonically it’s one of the worst recorded records ever…BUT musically they are flying.

Those performances are red hot indeed. I wish they would release some of those early 70's performances because you know the Stones have it somewhere in their archives.

The ONLY good Live Albums are the Ones with Mick Taylor , Ronnie Wood is awful trying to play TAYLOR Parts live , Jagger should of stayed with Wayne Perkins who plays lead on Hand of Fate , or maybe even Steve Marriot or Jeff Beck when Taylor left in 1974 ,

Thanks but that's a blanket statement that I totally don't agree with. Ronnie Wood is not in Taylor's league as a lead player - everyone knows that. But his first tour in 1975 he did play some good lead...he had something to prove and big shoes to fit into. There's some great lead (not in Taylor's league) even on Love You Live (You Can't Always Get What You Want for instance). Steve Marriott is not a great lead player? That was Frampton or Clemson in the Pie. Jeff Beck never would have fit it, though his studio work with solo Jagger is superb, its not Stones like which is why Jagger's solo career is interesting for those with an open mind. Perkins and Mandel were great on Black and Blue - fantastic lead players - wouldn't fit in with the band though live. PS - the live El Mocambo CD is fantastic fun and great playing too.
