It's that time of year again, time to look back on 2022 with a good old-fashioned clip show!
This is a selection of some of my best projects from the past year. I'm noticing a heavy Sandland / tunnel theme emerging, with surprisingly few boats this year! Maybe I need to get back to basics and slap a lawnmower engine into a kayak, for old-times sake.
Make sure to stay tuned for more nonsense in 2023!

It occurs to me you need to combine and consolidate some of your interests. You could 3D print a satellite remote control to drive the tank to Sandland to use fireworks to blast out new tunnels.

i keep thinking your going use an old ice auger to make a tunnel boring machine at the sand bar !
@saveitforparts
@saveitforparts Жыл бұрын
We've actually tried something like that (both the auger and the TBM), but they don't work all that well. I might make this into a little skid steer or road header device if I get bored with the tank :-)

@@saveitforparts i guess even if you had a giant mortising drill. the biggest problem would be getting all the loose material out fast enough not to clog the entrance.

I love your channel! To start the new year off with a bang, I have an experiment I would like to run by you, and, not having very much knowledge on the subject, see if it is even possible. What would happen if you took say 20 or 30 of those old direct TV satellite dishes, put them all on servos, and used them to emulate Starlink's phased array antenna, just larger in total diameter, and controlled via an arduino microcontroller, to maintain communication lock. Would it be better? Worse? would it even work at all? It's an idea that has interested me since I saw you futzing around with satellite TV, in that one episode you did a while back, and you mentioned something about the acquisition signal in the KA band. And, if you couldn't do that exactly, how about making an amateur radio telescope?
@saveitforparts
@saveitforparts Жыл бұрын
This is an interesting idea, and actually something I've thought about (although not on that scale!). There was an auction recently with a bunch of satellite signal combiners, so you could link multiple dishes to one receiver. I got outbid on those, but then a viewer loaned me one! It only does 4 inputs, so I can't do 20 dishes, but it's something I plan to play with as soon as I have time!
@mattparker9726

@@saveitforparts I hope so, I would like to build my own phased array that can connect to Starlink, not to steal, but simply for technical knowledge, I would still gladly give Elon his money.
@nathanaelvetters2684
@nathanaelvetters2684 Жыл бұрын
You could do that, but you'd be far better off with building a big dish. If you want the instantaneous electronic beam steering of a phased array, you need to have low-gain elements like dipoles or patch antennas. But yes, if you wanted to take a starlink terminal and replace the phased array with a larger one, it might get you better reception with it. Or you could just build a big phased array for satellite tracking in general, but again, dish will generally be far easier.

The monorail doesn't run, we don't have any track or 480v electricity out where it lives. The zoo tried to get me to take the track but then they remembered there were utility lines running inside it. Now they've turned it into some kind of walking path.
