Fun fact: From the point of view of cats, humans have stripes, we just can't see them. You need a UV light to reveal what we know as Blaschko Lines.

We’re also bioluminescent but it’s on a spectrum we can’t perceive. In fact a lot of things have a glow we can’t see. It’s a mystery why we glow when the fact that we glow holds no use to us.

You can already do this, usually it is done with UV fluorescent paint, but there is nothing stopping you from writing with UV reflective or UV absorbent paint that is transparent in the human visible spectrum

Something humanity should do is show them color specific photo mechanisms, they probably use cameras that do broad light wavelengths. Humanity specifying what wavelengths are what colors, these aliens would be able to have cameras with a red green and blue modes allowing them to see the graffiti and stuff like that.

I bet the humans would try to make color correction glasses like we already have for our own color blind. That would blow them away
@blackjackrose605
@blackjackrose605 2 жыл бұрын
Our colorblind glasses work only on a very specific kind of color blindness, where you can see all the colors but your cone cells of one color are too sensitive to light of another color too and you get mixed signals. They filter out specific wavelengths, meaning you see fewer colors overall but the ones you do see you can better distinguish. They wouldn't work for someone who is completely unable to see any color. You could, however, do something like what we do with Thermal cameras: false color. Basically take a camera, make it black and white, but then take anything of one particular color and make it extra bright and another color extra dark.

@zuzax1656

Color correction glasses wouldn't work because they don't have the cone receptors that humans do, only the rods, therefore, only shades of grey. However, there has been some success with direct input of cameras into the visual cortex of people that were totally blind, allowing them to see, in color, no less. To the patient, the images were highly pixelated, but with practice, they were able to see enough to avoid obstacles and even read large print pages. The cameras were mounted in normal looking eyeglasses, which some folks have used to clandestinely film others. In other words, off the shelf tech.

If it is paint on a surface, then wouldn't the change in texture show what is written? Take a surface painted a given colour, then take a brush and write letters with the same paint. Those letters should still be visible as the texture and brush lines will be inconsistent with the background. Similarly, one can take a bare surface and paint letters on with clear varnish. Even though the varnish will be transparent the letters should still be visible as the texture and sheen will differ from the background.

Not necessarily. Graffiti can be done with markers or other things that don't leave prominent surface distortions.

Our visible energy spectrum starts at the faint glow of heated steel. A dull red, but below that, a raging infrared that humans cannot see. The same for ultraviolet, as we can't see the energy that burns us. Or radio waves, or your cell phone emitting a strong microwave signal.
@mage3690
@mage3690 Жыл бұрын
I mean, technically micro and radio waves are below infrared, but yeah. Whole swathes of color we can't even begin to see because of the various physical limitations trying to evolve something like that would present.

Doesn't work. The colour may be invisible, but the pattern isn't . They 'd be able to see it as some shade of gray different from the surrounding material. Colour vision is usually sacrificed for spotting camouflage. Its really really hard to fool a brain, use to seing patterns of light and shadow.
@HaroldoPinheiro-OK

When they make paints, they wouldn't control for colors. What looks like the same color to them may look completely different to us. It's just like we don't know how different colors look in the ultraviolet.

Color isnt all too special, it just helps make seeing close wavelengths easier to see. The range of wavelength is what matters in this case. If they had the same nm range as us they would still be able to see the graffiti unless the hue was matched exactly. The only way they wouldnt be able to see it is if the wavelength is outside of their visual range like how insects can see far into UV nm while we can only just slightly see into it (we see ~750-380nm and UV is 400-100nm.)
@Sharkakaka
@Sharkakaka 2 жыл бұрын
Actually no, if the color was the same "brightness" you really would have a hard time seeing it. I remember reading of a hypothesis about humans developing a good color vision to help us avoid snakes as it's really easy to confuse them with vines or just sticks in the ground.

One of the Graffiti markes says "Romanes Eunt Domus" But Latin for roman is Romanus the end sounding like annus, but its plural, so i guess Annus would be... uhhhh Anni? So i think.... Romani? and Eunt. wait what Eunt? 'Go' right? would i have to conjugate the verb? of 'to go'? uhhh..... 'ire'? 'eo'? 'is'? 'it'? 'Imus'? 'Eunt'? which one is the 3rd person plural present indicative?

From the description of mono-chromism, they would seem to have a rods-only vision. Chroma-glasses shift color frequencies to wavelengths better perceived by the limited or defective cones available
